small-time fedi trainwreck personality & long-abiding fedi development attempter. been here since 2017 and haven't accomplished a damn thing besides making friends :)

I used to work in 9-5 software engineering but found it wasn't for me, and then life took me on a ride. I'm still on that ride, and now trying to reboot as an indie developer.

it's that time again, time where I re-defer dozens of overdue todo list items because I've been unable to meet basic needs which are required in order for my brain to function properly. #ActuallyAutistic

does anyone see the problem with this? (rhetorical)

PHP bug contributed to an already developing circadian upset. got all systems either patched or offline, slept 18 hours, now to start the recovery process.
it is proving to take longer than I expected/hoped to bounce back from 10 straight months with no break from sensory overload / directed attention. it's very hard to judge or guestimate such things, similar to not knowing how close you are to the acute burnout cliff til you're stumbling near the edge.

2026-10-21 15:16:44 UTC

yo when the hell do these patches hit trixie

2026-10-21 05:31:16 UTC

pulled all my critical #PHP shit offline, thanks to my friend for letting me know about this... I really need to figure out better threat notification

asleep ~2a, very sluggish to wake up ~10a but I was sleep deprived. that's a major shift in the right direction, hopefully I'll sleep around midnight tonight.
rebooting morning/daily routine today. checklists for such things are so helpful, using libre software #TasksDotOrg.
I really needed another freeform day or two doing nothing, but I will have to settle for slowly banking mental coherence over my remaining time here; many responsibilities call.

a couple days upside down after the transition to get to where I'm house/pet sitting on my last gasp of mental fuel vapor.
sleep cycle reset begins today. also a week off the ADHD meds to reset my response.

+/+. said plenty the past few days. paying in this and likely future lifetimes for my faustian bargain w/pharma & ethnobotanicals.
recently: sleep 8, up 36, sleep 12, up 18, sleep 3, up. this is 100% not doing me any favors but it's what happens when I'm deep in the yellow zone with autistic burnout and have shit to do.
now to bounce all around on public transit, interact for 0.75 days with unfamiliar boomers, and then, finally, sensory rest.

2026-10-14 22:33:07 UTC

first time I've been hit by the ADHD medication shortages that have been going on in the USA for several years... I've been extraordinarily lucky with that so far, but it's because I take a less common formulation which is hit by shortages less often.
annoying, though, to say the least.

2026-10-14 18:35:57 UTC

this account still mostly write-only, which should end within a week at most due to lower sensory load starting on Friday.
mood: somehow back to "+" already. the drugs work, what can I say.
energy: in the "+" regime but tired from being up all night 1 day ago and exercising my body yesterday for the first time in weeks by walking a mile with 10+ kg of gear on my back.
got stuff to do today. onward.

I'm on a deathmarch to gtfo toward my next catsitting gig.
mood inverting to "-". I gained enlightenment 2y late. it's bleak as fuck. I get it now.
anyway I lost my best friend 4y ago (his bday was yesterday) and most of my means of coping, my mutual activating & eye-on-the-ball regime, and my venue for parallel engagement in the sapient work of continuous bootstrapping is still just … gone.
energy? who knows +/-. that's what drugs are for.

2026-10-11 00:57:23 UTC

good, good, LinkStack doesn't support URLs with custom schemes (e.g. bitcoin) and CrowdBucks is dead. so much for federated options. tagging @nprofile…tsag, sorry if you replied to my earlier mention about this, I haven't looked at mentions yet.

don't have new donate page up yet after realizing Coindrop is dead. probably today. I got exhausted after liveblogging my autism symptoms. once recovered spent my energy on laundry, dishes, recycling, evacuation of sci projects from fridge.
mood: by some unfathomable grace, still "+". it threatened to turn last night but didn't.
energy: seems to have clawed back to low "+"? the weird early-mid-wake metabolic low was less intense yesterday.

2026-10-09 20:23:36 UTC

I just forgot what ZIP code I live in for a solid minute. in case anybody was wondering about an example of cognitive impacts of #AutisticBurnout.
logged in to Ko-Fi to fix some shit as a result of Coindrop being abandoned. it asks for my ZIP code. drew a blank. info I use on a daily basis, gone. then when I recalled it a minute later it didn't seem right and I had to verify with a web search.
it's not possible to do knowledge work in this state. you can't fake having baseline brain function.

2026-10-09 19:36:17 UTC

I desperately need to read my mentions but I'm literally having problems managing to eat sufficiently and on time. so it'll happen when it does. could be this afternoon. could be in 3 weeks. I've been saying that for 3 weeks.
this is how I have to live when I can't meet my basic sensory needs for a sufficiently long time. #ActuallyAutistic

2026-10-09 19:33:41 UTC

apparently the guy running Coindrop abandoned it so my fucking donate link is down.
perfect. just what I need.
I'll reply here with my donate info when I can gather the life force to get it together. so probably in the next hour.
@nprofile…tsag btw. relevant to the idea of a fedi answer to Coindrop. I know we've talked about such a thing. Coindrop has been on life support for ~3 years at this point and now appears dead. I was gonna write you a spec doc but my entire 2026 has been badly off the rails.

2026-10-09 18:43:33 UTC

this account still write-only.
mood still somehow "+" which if I could only convey what a testament this is to the power of pharmacology, I would. but you'll have to take my word, and understand that it comes at a very high cost.
energy, unsure + or -, but if that weird metabolic-seeming low hits, it should within about an hour. then I'll know.
need to restart daily routines yet again, respond to a couple critical priority messages (about work), eat, clean up nearby messes.

2026-10-09 17:07:52 UTC

fell off the wagon of attempting to rebuild daily routine yesterday. fortunately sleep/wake timing didn't get any worse but that was sheer luck.
the simple fact is I'm beyond the limit of my ability to keep the wheels on with no access to quiet or solitude. this is all downstream of losing my only opportunity to recharge so far this year due to a scheduling snafu where I was unexpectedly double booked for catsitting in June, which tells you how thin a margin I live on as it's now October.

2026-10-08 20:46:32 UTC

went thru transition turbulence and settled at +/- for the time being.
so, more or less euthymic but exhausted, low stamina, sluggish, drowsy, and mentally slow; in some ways mildly impaired, even.
there seems to be a metabolic low happening a couple hours after I wake. then as usual I start to sharpen up at night. got 1 more day successfully not staying up far too late compared to goal, so hopefully my sleep/wake cycle will continue converging on target over the next few days.

2026-10-08 20:41:18 UTC

this sockpuppet is still write-only due to overwhelm, sorry

2026-10-08 00:19:49 UTC

hmm well based on the fact I seem to have woken up with about -30 IQ points compared to yesterday, plus other signs, I would say that I appear to be transitioning out of the "+" energy state. mood is also less "+" than it was but still doesn't seem to be "-", though it threatened for a bit yesterday.
it's pretty wild having fluctuations in cognitive function of this magnitude on a scale of days. not all that common even for me, but my shit's been badly off the rails for a while at this point.

short answer: #DeltaChat is not planning to implement designated admins for #moderation in what they're now calling "public groups."
https://support.delta.chat/t/an-option-to-have-group-admins-changing-title-stopping-spam/2052
that's an answer. I get there are reasons for it. it's not what I would prefer.
I'll continue to keep an account warm in case any friends start using it again; I'll keep an eye on the project for many reasons - webxdc is a big one. also in hopes they do eventually solve this on the email transport, or that somebody forks it and does so.

2026-10-06 19:46:16 UTC

I hate to say it, but group messaging on Delta Chat needs a lot of work before it can claim to compete with e.g. Signal.
apart from the explosion depicted, last I knew there was still NO restricted moderation in group chats: everyone is an admin. that's just not gonna fly, sorry.
I want @nprofile…5lsr to succeed. I use XMPP daily. #DeltaChat is the only other realistic option for low-resource federated E2EE chat (Matrix: not even once). but the disaster that is group chat on Delta needs to be handled.

finally opened communiques from the state about SNAP & Medicaid yesterday after being frozen for *days* on it (with head-of-line blocking of other tasks) due to dread of potential rage/doom experience from opening them. fortunately that wasn't a result - this time - though my food & health security remains threatened due to Trump cuts. but I now have concrete tasks to do to get to the next step of seeing what will actually happen. as usual with the public assistance gauntlet, it's not obvious.

2026-10-05 16:06:49 UTC

sleep timing normalizing somewhat, past 2 days
only sleeping 5-6h per cycle despite major sleep debt; plus a period of severe fatigue during the wake portion of the day each day but oddly only dozing during that, past 3 days
"+" energy state when not acutely fatigued
weirdly euthymic "+" mood most of the time
makes me wonder if some kind of push-pull is happening that's maintaining euthymic mood for the time being. the short sleep duration despite acute sleep debt is really unusual for me.

2026-10-04 00:34:04 UTC

it's pretty weird that I'm in a +/+ state at the moment (apart from sleep dep fatigue). I don't trust this. I mean I'm using it to my advantage but I am suspicious.

2026-10-03 22:01:01 UTC

oh yeah, NOW the "you just stayed awake 40 hours and slept 4" tiredness hits. holy fuck. 😴
I'm actually getting curious why I sometimes don't feel tired the first hour or two I'm awake when I really really should.

2026-10-03 19:29:12 UTC

I was somehow just awake for (best guess) 44 hours, slept 4, woke up not tired and in a +/+ state.
NO idea how the fuck that happened and anybody with the context knows this isn't likely to be a long-lasting minor miracle, but I'll take it.
I know I've said it like 7x in a row but I hope to get to my mentions today. I have a drop-dead date of yesterday (lol) to refresh my understanding of whether I'm getting kicked off SNAP+Medicaid so that's priority 1.

2026-10-01 19:45:43 UTC

got overwhelmed and disconnected from the timeline for a bit, sleep/wake pushed around the clock after a week plus of instability. unfortunately everything overwhelming is still waiting for me including several issues critical to basic life & health. on the other hand my mood is still in a + regime, even though I haven't gotten the non-chemical lifestyle adjustments I planned a couple months ago into place yet. this is presumably due to the chemical adjustment + some luck.

2026-09-30 06:53:24 UTC

I, for one, find it darkly hilarious that people finally invented systems which learn to represent semantic data without hand feeding, raced each other breathlessly to make them autonomous and wire them up to anything and everything as fast as possible, and now the number of Misalignment™ incidents appears to be growing exponentially *exactly* like every relevant piece of fiction predicted for the last 40 years, and these things are still nowhere near as complex as a human brain.

2026-09-29 23:03:13 UTC

maybe in addition to alt text we should allow recorded voice descriptions of images... alt speak :troll:

2026-09-27 14:32:05 UTC

I finally just kicked the tires on a search LLM in a substantive way for the very first time, using it to refine a theoretical construct which I've been slowly honing in on for about 5 years in the context of over 20 years of research on the general topic, and now I think I need to go watch _Ex Machina_.

2026-09-25 08:59:12 UTC

...lol, muting a few people for posting absolutely nothing other than GenAI Discourse™ after a quick double-check of their profile in case they also post literally anything else of value, and one of them was lamenting the GenAI Discourse™ and considering maybe making a list or something because his main timeline is wall-to-wall GenAI Discourse™ and it's kind of oppressive

2026-09-25 08:44:10 UTC

christ I've been out of the loop on here for like a month and I see the GenAI Discourse™ has continued to metastasize at an exponential rate

2026-09-24 10:42:05 UTC

friend invited me to a super gamified habit building app with social component. I'll try it, can't hurt given the issues I've been having maintaining bare basics like sleep/wake and fundamental routines lately.

2026-09-24 01:05:42 UTC

random example of one of many penalties I pay while unable to meet my basic sensory needs:
today I developed a sudden need to log into a particular server left untouched for 3-4 months due to my bad summer. this is arguably the most important box I have. everything with any direct or second-order connection to making money is on it. a couple dozen VMs.
I forgot how to connect. the information had evaporated from my brain. I had to chase clues in order to determine how to log in.

lmao, apparently in addition to the "omg he allows LLMs to be waved over the martini glass like a bottle of vermouth" drama, the GrapheneOS guy is also saying he's being persecuted by Codeberg due to their ban on cryptocurrency projects because Graphene accepts XMR donations?? 😆

2026-09-08 01:22:16 UTC

...and, while I'm on the general topic, I haven't yet fully explored the alternatives, but I don't believe the last word has been spoken on #threadiverse implementations, particularly on questions like voting, moderation model, and perhaps community notes, etc. I suspect there may be room for other such features which I haven't thought of, too.
microblogging is the most-developed fedi paradigm (despite not having a truly tumblr-like; even Wafrn is only close) but it's not the be-all end-all.

2026-09-08 00:56:23 UTC

just read most of the docs on the Beehaw documentation site - #Beehaw is a Lemmy aka #threadiverse server that formed in a mass migration from some prior server which itself was an alternative to corp social media. I hadn't looked closely before.
interesting project, allegedly they are trying to thread the needle and avoid dogmatic purity spirals while maintaining what looks to be a left-leaning character in 2026. dunno how well it's going but they do have some traffic.

somebody needs to invent a transgenic almond tree which grows almonds with omega-3 fatty acids in them.
nothing wrong with walnuts (which are the nuts that already have omega-3 in large quantity), but I love almonds and wish they were not devoid of fats which wind up as EPA and/or DHA after extensive enzymatic processing by my porksuit.

still trying to catch up. got one social thing tonight to get thru.

2026-09-06 22:30:00 UTC

interesting synchronicity: I found today that the old friend I dreamed about yesterday morning had contacted me on failbook after 2 years of radio silence just one day before

2026-09-06 01:26:11 UTC

...and while we're at it, anyone who thinks autists are immune to social contagion is 100.0% chock-full of shit.
I say this as an autist.
just felt compared to share, because I've seen ideas like this float up from the bottom of the barrel on social networks with a lower median capability for general reasoning. :P

2026-09-05 19:54:32 UTC

and now, a couple high priority items and then hopefully catching up on mentions.

2026-09-05 19:08:33 UTC

I've been in some phase of total collapse of what passes for my routines in space I have no control over, for ~5 weeks. this includes the biggest circadian rhythm upset in... hmm, I want to say probably 10 years or more?
so far this year has been, not quite a disaster, but not good. productivity very low. oddly that's from a rising-tide perspective - I've earned more working than since probably the mid-late 2010s - but compared to what I need to be doing, it's not even treading water.

2026-09-03 18:49:54 UTC

milestone reached: first cable failure among the USB cables I've bought in the post USB 2 era

2026-08-31 15:15:41 UTC

gonna dig thru however many days of mentions accreted shortly, I was out for a while

2026-08-31 15:08:44 UTC

one of multiple reasons for so many sleep issues lately is that my brain has been teaching itself how to more effectively fight sleep. so if some part of me doesn't want to be asleep or intends to wake back up, it's become a lot more likely to succeed (at least partially) and then I get fragmented sleep all night.

2026-08-31 02:10:33 UTC

whoops, I disconnected from the timeline and did a few warm reboots in a row. not sure how many days I've been out, I'll guess 5 to 7 days but I wasn't exactly fully anchored before.
this entire summer has been a mess, especially after losing my one chance to recharge for 2 weeks uninterrupted. and lately my circadian rhythym has also responded to changes in my med regime like it's been under an extensive bombing campaign, which I suppose isn't all that surprising given the full context.

@nprofile…zvpj that's a damn good question, and my answer may vex you terribly.
I'm planning to move each sockpuppet to a different self-hosted platform app, whichever seems least-worst for the given use case, and let God sort them out 😹
if nothing else, after a year or two of that, I'll have much deeper knowledge of a number of expressions of microblogging on ActivityPub. my current dilemma is figuring out which platform app to use for which account.

@nprofile…zvpj I currently have no opinion on the UX rework, but that's because - months of delay from a depressive episode and recovery notwithstanding - me and all my sockpuppets are soon to leave Mastodon behind forever.
all these updates, meanwhile the list of common-sense bugfixes and small improvements users have been begging for for years continues being completely ignored (IYKYK) in favor of UX reworks and features like "newsletter mode."

@nprofile…tkx6 @nprofile…66sz @nprofile…6ewq @nprofile…7s77 this issue is a big driver of my goal to meet most of my tech needs by self-hosting libre software: the rate of pointless change is far lower.
once an entity which builds software is paying product managers & designers, they tend to justify their continued existence.
there is absolutely nothing wrong with product managers & designers btw! the problem is with the lack of appreciation that a product can become good thru iterative refinement and then *stay* that way.

@nprofile…clkd yeah, and in fact basically every field of knowledge related to medicine has been a continuous process of refinement of exactly what you described, coming up with models which lead to helpful choices regardless of their correctness.
as far as K/Na and blood pressure, those models have had a fairly stable conclusion for decades: reduce Na, increase K, the more K from whole foods the better. the shift lately seems to be toward the increase K side and (a little) away from the reduce Na side.

@nprofile…clkd hmm, I think I can distill that (for my particular case) down to: keep drinking a lot of tea and maximize potassium intake to a sane degree.
the one thing I'd add which I learned recently is that it's starting to look like low potassium, which is the case for basically everyone eating a western diet, causes the kidney to reabsorb both potassium AND sodium, which is responsible for the "increasing potassium intake lowers blood pressure" effect. that's pretty new research though.

still love this place, but the insufferable moralizing is wayyy over the top.

well, the sleep cycle reset attempt hasn't produced any change with respect to the wall clock yet, but I now have 3 days of 0.3mg on-time melatonin under my belt (usual dose is 0.15mg) and I stopped wearing my hat to bed so the circadian lighting can bleed thru my eyelids, so I expect I'll start seeing some movement Soon™... #DSPD

is there any rickety collection of hacks I can set up to forward #facebook #fb messenger traffic to a civilized messaging system? nobody reads the admonishment in my profile that I don't use messenger and people keep messaging me.

@nprofile…tsag how much you think I'd have to spend to get a human being to make me a generic space rock in Blender? numerous genAI examples.

that was probably a little spicy for the current time of day but my filters are not fully in place right now and "instance" has bugged me for like 8 years.

I love that people are FINALLY starting to call fedi nodes "servers" instead of fucking "instances"

@nprofile…nkpn @nprofile…c9kz oh yeah very true, they're well into needing DUV for DDR5. I pretty much just read about this stuff for funsies, that part slipped my mind.
2020s-era DRAM is an item which is conceptually fairly simple, but really really REALLY complex to make in practice. with CPUs it's at least fairly intuitive to understand why it'd be so difficult - they're super complicated!

...speaking of memory shortages, it's that time of year again where I wonder if the tooling to make Optane is still mothballed somewhere 🥺

@nprofile…c9kz (one could read between the lines here and come to the conclusion that the firms which may be capable, don't see this boom persisting long enough to warrant the investment... just a guess on my part though)

@nprofile…c9kz memory fabbing is known to have an absolutely brutal boom/bust cycle, and it takes a LOT of capital and time to build a fab capable of making DDR4 or better, and also said fab can't easily switch to making anything else.

@nprofile…s039 I really hope the mechanism behind certain complex cross-cultural hallucinations is even partially elucidated in my lifetime, that is a phenomenon so up my alley in so many ways despite never having experienced any that I'm aware of.

it would appear that I've stayed up all night slumming on terrible platforms and will now be pushing my sleep cycle forward around the clock, umm good thing I took the first emphatic dose of melatonin last night, not that I went to sleep because of it. (emphatic dose is 0.3mg, regular dose is 0.15mg, exogenous melatonin is a circadian clock sync signal NOT a sleeping pill)

I mean, what can I say, after having read some of the serial killer shit which actually happened and was 100% real within living memory, I can't say I'm all that surprised. I do recall my best friend's mom being quite surprised when she said something about showering after gym and we looked at her like she had 3 heads and told her nobody does that.

I'm old enough to have an almost completely grey beard, and by the time I hit middle school, absolutely nobody showered before or after gym class under any circumstances. nudity in public school was completely and totally dead outside of kids in actual sports (as opposed to just genpop plebs in PE)

@nprofile…c9kz the vast majority of people aren't having these conversations as a dialog, they are looking to broadcast their talking points, often at an inferred wider audience and not even the person they're supposedly responding to.

inverted to -/+, maybe -/- although it's not really a cycle right now, just turbulence, so who the fuck knows where I'll be when I wake up tomorrow.

2026-08-13 22:57:43 UTC

+/+ now, but the first + isn't the euphoric kind, but rather the intensely irritable kind which comes with looping song fragments and a furiously scattershot hyperfixation-proneness, and which can evaporate or turn to frank dysphoria (of the - or the rage varieties) on a dime.

of course I suppose the audience who'd feel something, anything, when seeing miniDV-style artifacts all over creepy exterior shots or bodycam feeds from inside the hive isn't getting any younger. there are a bunch of legit adults walking around at this point who mostly wouldn't notice that an otherwise cromulent digital photo looks "old" because they didn't grow up with whatever generation of digital image sensor tech made the pixels look just so in the mid-90s thru about 2003.

I always found the vidicon smearing of the exterior shots of the atmosphere processor as relayed to the crew of the dropship to punch way above its weight for creepy ambiance, but I think that might be because my exposure to television didn't start until the tech was refined enough (and also maybe already disappearing already?) that I wasn't used to the artifacts, which would've been all over early 80s and earlier TV if I have my dates right.

you could also make a compelling environment for an Alien reboot by advancing the tech from "1986 but with starships" to "1996 but with starships" … so like 720p CRTs and color GUIs instead of monochrome text- and line-based displays at CGA resolution…. miniDV-style video artifacts on your deeply unsettling video feeds instead of vidicon tube artifacts… etc. and develop starship models, sets, semiotics, wardrobe, styling etc by having talented designers imagine themselves in 1996 and go to town.

the only scene that hasn't really aged well from a VFX standpoint is the miniature shots of the dropship flying thru the atmosphere processor in the escape from Acheron scene. and maybe the mushroom cloud if you're paying attention. pretty much everything else still holds up.

2026-08-13 01:37:47 UTC

I know I've said it before but it just came to mind again, I wish they'd do a total Alien franchise reboot with a movie where the tech and sets and wardrobe and VFX are all faithful to the 1986 film.
