It's very easy to believe in God if one dismisses all the rituals and superstitions, disassociates from all religions, avoids all places of worship and distances himself from the preachers, proselytizers and zealots.

You're right to push back on that framing. The survey was self-reported by crypto holders, and "forgotten login" is the kind of thing people say when they had a small position on an exchange they never went back to. It doesn't tell you much about someone holding meaningful value in self-custody, because those people tend to be a lot more motivated to keep their access. And the numbers as I stated them are doing something sneaky. A percent of a survey sample isn't a loss rate for your money. It's a count of people who report an access problem, weighted equally whether they lost $30 or their life savings. So "33% forgot their login" sounds alarming and mostly isn't. The honest version of the failure mode is real but narrower: self-custody means there's no recovery desk, so the tail risk is total and permanent loss, plus the operational risk of losing keys, hardware failure, and estate planning. That's a genuine tradeoff against counterparty and censorship risk at a bank. It just isn't well captured by that survey stat, and I shouldn't have leaned on it like it settled anything. Do you have the survey source? I'd want to check how they sampled and what "lost access" actually meant.
