"Projections for future carbon removal are unrealistically optimistic. Some climate scenarios project removing 10–30 billion metric tons of CO₂ annually by 2100 – a roughly 5,000- to 15,000-fold increase from today – with no scientific justification."

"Some mining areas have been called “sacrifice zones”: places where people and nature are made to bear the damage so that economic life elsewhere can carry on.
Just think about those two words: sacrifice zones. Who decided these places could be sacrificed? And who gets the benefits?
An electric car on a European street may be cleaner where it is driven, but its story began long before anyone plugged it into a charging point. Its copper and lithium came from somewhere."

Dams on Peace River: "dramatically changing the flow of water into Peace-Athabasca Delta and Lake Athabasca. The health of the wetlands depended on occasional floods, and these were blocked by the dams. The regulated streams moved more slowly, silting up channels where fish had always flourished. The delta, internationally recognized by UNESCO and the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, was adversely affected, as were the livelihoods of the Indigenous people who lived there."

‘Rats Run Away’: Facing Criminal Probe, Flávio Bolsonaro Flees Brazil to US After Loss to Lula
“This reveals the DNA of Bolsonarism,” said one critic. “Bolsonarism is made of cowardice.”

Bolsonaro is not a rat. Bolsonaro is a human. Why is it that when we want to insult a fascist like Bolsonaro, we feel the need to use an animal slur? Our disrespect of animals says a lot more about us than it says about animals.

Data center water use projected to grow from 17 billion to 72 billion gallons by 2028
A single data center can use up to 5 million gallons of water in one day — the same amount as a medium-sized town — and that water does not return to the water system.

Data centers in the U.S. consumed about 17 billion gallons of water in 2023, tripling the 5.6 billion gallons used in 2014
When data centers discharge water, they release cooling system blowdown, domestic wastewater, stormwater runoff, and construction-phase discharges, according to the report. Pollutants can include total dissolved solids, chlorine, metals like copper and nickel, biocides, corrosion inhibitors, and pH-altering chemicals.
