Cloudflare Tunnel + the Python relay installed via PIPX might be the fastest & easiest. I've toyed with each separately, but not combined, and AI says that Cloudflare might drop the connection if a client doesn't keep reaching out to the relay more than once every 100 seconds.
If you have a open port on your router or VPpN, or wanted to toy around with Tor/I2P/FIPS, the tunnel requirements don't matter.

Tilde communities always seem like a neat concept, though never been a part of one myself. Feel like shared #Nostr relay communities could probably provide a similar 21st century experience.

A bit long and rambly, but had a section on and old blog post on the topic:
Gemini is often pushed as a good alternative to your standard web server in the indyweb/smolweb community, however, I’m actually going to trash on it a bit. Now, if it works for you that’s great, and I started this post off with an iambic-pantameter-meme-word-filled sonnet, so don’t take this post as anything more than me having fun rambling about things I like.
Anyway, Gemini’s claim to fame is that it’s intentionally bare bones; lacking javascript and modern web APIs. I get it, we’re all annoyed by javascript powered pop-ups, tracking, and ads; the goal of Gemini being to avoid all of that by hamstringing what a Gemini pod can be. However, I see it as the Luddite approach to things, thinking the problems of the present can be fixed by going from Web 2 back to Web 1. The problem with going backwards is you create a whole host of problems, problems that were solved by Web 2, and at the same time you can serve a Gemini pod style site over HTTP as well.
Some drawbacks in itself aren’t a deal breaker, but again, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table whatsoever. Of the above protocols, most have the capability of doing some or all of the following: using non-centralized identifiers, hosting content without a static IP or open port, and providing built in redundancy. But want a JavaScript free website? Serve it over Tor/I2P/IPFS/nsite and just don’t put JavaScript in it - or serve it over something like Nostr NIP-23 (markdown only) or AcitivityPub/AT-Proto (generally plain text).
I guess my philosophy here is that, if you’re looking to use something that differs from what the web is now, ideally look for the options that solve problems in novel ways, rather than just removing old solutions to already solved problems.

GM. The mornings have been beautiful, not a cloud in the sky and dusk barely a sliver on the horizon on an otherwise star filled sky to start my commute.
Unfortunately it's also very cold this morning. Was some frost out so it was either freezing or barely above when I hit the road. Turned into a rather cold moto commute.

More vibe coding adventures, have been recently working on
https://0n4t3.github.io/story-tool/
It's very niche, a tool to organize chapters for writers. It uses Nostr for background sync since relays are a really streamlined way to transfer a few MBs JSON data, but is otherwise not Nostr related.
I've got ~120 something chapters already in the second installment of untitled novel, and with a lot of intersecting plotlines it was a lot harder to organize than the first one. Most of the regular tools are proprietary and expensive, and built around being a writing hub rather than just a chapter organizer. Before I vibe coded the tool, I nearly just grabbed a bunch of post it notes and physically organized it on the floor becase I needed a dynamic space to organize them.
Its both ironic and impressive that that it was cheaper and faster to vibe my own tool from scratch than it would be to use physical paper or a purpose built proprietary tool that I'd need to import content into (much of which is scans or physically written in a stack of notebooks I'll be using AI to word for word transcribe in the revision stage).

Depends on what we're talking about. If it's AWS & cloud services then prob carry on like normal. The laptop acting as a server on my desk and anything more decentralized like Syncthing/Nostr is pretty undisturbed by that sort of stuff. Though some cash on hand, and having a few different banking options (different credit cards, some cash in services like PayPal, ect), could be handy to make sure I could buy things.
If you mean something really serious, like taking out the Grid and the internet, then that's a different story. A few days at least of food, fuel, batteries, and the like; warm clothes, a wind up radio/flashlight, a weapon, and probably some sort of solar power. I've got a mini folding panel for phones, but if/when I buy a house I'd love to setup some cheap used panels on some posts or something, maybe get myself a makeshift mini off grid power source that's got enough juice to at least charge an electric motorcycle if not Lvl 2 EV charging. Otherwise, probably a generator.
Also probably wouldn't hurt to have offline data. Kiwix, Survival Manual, Trail Sense, and Equate all are pretty useful offline data apps - not to mention ebooks & physical books, offline LLMs, & physical maps or offline navigation apps like Organic Maps/OSMand.

Because I don't push people to Nostr in the same way I don't push people towards RSS, Linux, or self hosting. Even though some family members are rather advanced tech users, I'm the only one who's actually made a hobby out of tech. Most people I know, and all of my family members, just use tech as a tool. None of us are big on social media either.
(I've actually only met the first IRL user of Linux less than two years ago when a co-worker tried Manjaro. I'm yet to meet someone IRL who I know uses Nostr/ActivityPub/AT, crypto, or any other decentralized protocol).
Right now, if somebody has no interest in tech as a hobby, a vanilla Nostr (and other protocols) experience probably won't bring much value to the average user. Since the userbase 'seems' less saturated with Crypto content, and with the advent of the more whimsy side of things like Ditto or alternative stuff (nsites, magazines, chats, ect) that might change in the future.

Well I made it back home. Took a three hour nap in a conference room, then hit the road and got real lucky that I timed thunderstorm and tornado warning free windows at both my starting point and destination.
Also, glad I took a nap because my alarm goes off in 3hr48min. Either this is late GN or an early GM, not sure. Rural interstate moto driving after midnight, with the sky lit up by quite a few distant lightning strikes, is quite the vibe.

2026-09-03 00:10:25 UTC

My afternoon/evening in a nutshell:
) I'm working a bit late, but I'd really like to get this thing fixed before I leave. I took my motorcycle, and it'll rain in the evening, but I'll be back hours before it starts.
...
) Well, I'm cutting it close, but I've still got time to drive ~110 miles before the storm hits
...
) I'm definitely going to get rained on, but a little summer rain won't hurt me.
...
) Severe thunderstorm warning
) eff
...
) Tornado warning while driving down the highway on a 250cc moto
) eff, eff, eff
...
Long story short I hightailed it off the highway, hesitated and decided to shelter at a gas station. The tornado watch extended from 7:30 to 11 so I decided to book it through some really bad rain to a work location 3 miles away. Still 60 miles from home though, and leaving puddles on a conference room floor.
Honestly of all the places to hunker down for the night this is actually a pretty nice place, so don't worry too much internet strangers.
Moral of the story? Don't give it your all, just do the bare minimum and get home to watch TV or something lol. The thing I needed to fix? Didn't even get it fixed. Wound up doing a half bandaid fix that could have been done in 10 minutes instead of the hours I spent on it.

If they're trying to get away from American infrastructure, the best argument would likely be that the Mastodon Inc (nonprofit) and Bluesky PBC are both registered in the United States.
On the technical side, Nostr:
* Has permanently referencable events and redundancy, meaning content can be archived and accessible beyond what AT/AP can do.
* Is a lot more flexible as a protocol. AFAIK you can't do ebooks and geocaching on anything other than Nostr
* Scaling a Nostr service is a lot easier and less resource intensive than scaling a large Activity Pub or AT based service
* Doesn't rely on DNS (heavily American influenced) or a centralized servers for identity management
Technical Drawbacks:
* Key based identities would need to be abstracted for the average user. Good luck having them manage their own keys.
Culture wise:
* Nostr also lacks some of the extremists that have congregated on ActivityPub (both left and right) and AT (left). Sure the BTC people can get a bit loud sometimes, but it's nothing compared to the dark corners of the other two protocols.
Finally, while it'd likely be considered a drawback to the German government, it'd be a benifit to the people that Nostr is decentralized enough that they can't rule it with an iron fist like they're likely eyeing with big centralized AT/AP services.

Was way to close to slow down so just gambled on going full send while strait and stable as apposed to slower but less stable if I hit the breaks or let off the throttle. Figured I was about to put my airbag vest to good use but I stuck the landing.
In all honesty, it was probably a rather pathetic jump to anybody who's done stunt riding, but it was certainly a bit of a surprise lol.

What's up strangers and fellow Nostr enthusiasts?
I'm really burnt out on my job. It's been a mess even since the interview process, and I'm not sure I'm even going to make it past Monday next week. I like the (theoretical) job description and the people there, but it's been a ride of shifting job descriptions, poor compensation, and missed/partial paychecks, and I think I've hit my limit. I'd do a tell all blog post, but lol, I think you guys would think I'm writing fiction at this point.
This afternoon after moving metaphorical mountains to get a thing finished after the second week things were implied that'd get better and that didn't, I took an early lunch break and left all my work stuff on site on the mental insurance I could just leave and never come back. I told my boss this morning that things really need to change. Though I doubt they will, as somebody who's usually a people pleaser, my very much not people pleasing conversation is about as much as a fair warning as they're going to get before things either get fixed or I quit Monday morning.
My previous more or less 'standard' job experience includes farm labor, a company that went bankrupt, and a company that was gutted by private equity. I've never both seen a company be so incompetent and never grown to despise a job like I have before now. The fact they're critical infrastructure is horrifying.

GN
Just fed some sloppy cell phone scans of my handwriting into Claude and I'm throughly impressed. I like handwriting things (especially fiction, where I can type faster than my brain can write making for a less enjoyable writing experience). But handwriting adds another step, going from draft > revise > share to draft > transcribe > revise > share.
Had some decentish luck with other AIs, but they made enough mistakes that I found it better off manually transcribing than editing a mistake riddled document (mistakes by AI, the mistakes in my writing that the document is riddled with is what the revise process is for). But Claude was immaculate. Only a single mistake, mistaking a "D" for a "P". No other issues, and it even picked up on dashes and struck through content.
This'll probably also be confusing for some staunchly anti-AI people lol. In one sense, I'm writing purely human fully analog literature on physical paper (albeit literature of meh quality). Then I might start turning around and giving it to an AI. While I'm there I might as well even have it proofread it with me. I might have just crossed cypherpunk and luddite.

LocalStorage and offloading processing to clients is based. I'm a moron and a s*** dev (or, more so nowadays, vibe coder) so disregard everything I say. But most users' devices have plenty of resources to spare and their own data/processes are tiny anyway. A truly decentralized system is often clunky, but relying on a centralized server for the basics than utilizing local resources has got to be the most efficient thing ever.

I've personally increasingly utilized (or, in a more negative light, become reliant) on AI for search. For basic stuff I can use Brave (they have their own indexing and a privacy respecting interface) and for more advanced stuff, I might as well ask AI to do the legwork of doing the dozen or so searches and rely on myself for fact checking and interpretation.
Especially as Google gets worse. It used to be that I would use Brave for the basics and Google for more advanced searches, but while Brave more or less has remained the same Google seems to have only plunged off a cliff. Google's AI summaries are worse than just about any other AI option (including Brave's), and it's actual search results seem to be Reddit or random junk. I legitimately think Bing might be a contender for the best purely search engine, and Brace close behind with a user focused experience (privacy & no hands on the search engine algorithm scale), which should be a good indication of how far Google's fallen in mind.

Been nearly a month since I had to leave for work before 6, the sun wasn't up yet like it was last time. Definitely slowly making its way towards fall.
Does make for a nice ride though, leaving just before the sun comes up and pulling into work during golden hour.

Out of curiosity, what's the interest in buying a Sega Genesis over software or hardware emulators and mini consoles?

@nprofile…9xfg did you intentionally delete your post on the Fiat Topolino? I wanted to reference it and saw it was missing, there's an archived version but I don't want to share it if it was intentionally redacted.

Generic non-answer: everything has a risk, so minimizing your attack surface is your best bet. But it's unlikely to be a big risk.
It's probably safe, but I'd personally be hesitate of vibe coded software to handle keys directly. Though it's both my job and hobby to be somewhat suspicious about tech. I also just put 100+ miles on a motorcycle today, which is statistically more dangerous than had I put the same on a car. Like anything else slightly risky, if improves your experience I'd say go for it, but if you're on the fence then defaulting to the less risky option is probably the safer bet.

I personally don't generally post about crypto, and used to mostly follow people who didn't post about it much. Though I recently started just muting the "#bitcoin" tag and then following anyone I found interesting. If you're looking for accounts that are light on the crypto content my following feed might be worth skimming:

1) The protocol is neat.
2) People seem pretty chill. Things can get heated occasionally, but it's usually the Bitcoin stuff I don't have as much of a stake in, so it's pretty easy to get along with people.
3) People seem to share a lot of my interests. The other week @nprofile…4463 and I were chatting in Shavian. I've never met somebody outside of Nostr - on the Internet or IRL - that even knew what it was (an alternative phonetic alphabet). It seems to attract people of similar wavelengths.

A post export ability might be neat, archiving all your posts locally in rebroadcastable signed json and possibly also as one big html/pdf/text doc.

Makes me curious, I wonder how IPFS would interact with Nostr for larger uploads. I know it's slower than Blossom for things like images in microblogging posts, but for something like a magazine or other large file hosting it might be useful.
