It would take a few weeks for most critical government services to be back on line in Canada.
I and my family outside of the USA would not miss much; we already have working systems for most of those services, including a Euro Office collaborative setup. We have self-hosted email servers on three continents.
But private industry would collapse and self-immolate.
And that includes almost all the food infrastructure - now largely owned by US corporations.

I am not sure about the jacquard ladder; something else for me to learn!
Carrying 3 colours I have done, but I did not like how my carries looked. But I also had a 4-colour knitting machine, so I imitated how it did it. It worked very well, but I did discover that careful attention to tension was important - if one color has higher tension, it becomes less visible in the finished work. Definitely use matching weight of yarns for the same reason.

Important technique note:
machine knitting knits one colour per pass, yet can make use of many, many colours in a single 'row'. So can you.
It works like this in circular knitting: knit a row carrying only one color, slipping all stitches which are not that color. Or carry 2, knitting just those two color stitches, slipping the others. Repeat as many times as necessary to complete all colors for the row. Carries will be nice and neat.
& you did not need a life, anyway.

It is actually correct - in the short term.
A truck's load maximum is determined by the road it is driving on, not by how much it can carry. If it is allowed to move more mass per trip, it will theoretically require fewer trips to move a greater total mass.
However, it will damage that road in doing so.
Which will require many trucks, much material, and a lot of time to repair/replace/upgrade.
There is a reason why roads have load limits: it's to save money, and energy.

And according to the article it cut the nation's energy cost by 50%, the transition brought $6 B in foreign investments to the industry.
And another key take-away: the nation's economy is no longer subject to global energy market price volatility. A widget price does not go up or down on oil's price.

The other was similar, over a koi pond a large frame was hung at an angle, with screening to redirect fall leaves. Only came out as the season changed.

I could see, for example, a SCoC appointee who, likewise, has very limited ability to delay. But does have the right to report on the likely constitutionality of a bill.
Such a 'signing document' has no legal authority, yet may influence the politicians of the day to consider a topic more thoroughly.

Not quite. As I mentioned, there have been a few, rare, occasions in which the GG or an LG has - temporarily - delayed assent until the monarch is consulted.
Such a pause has, by itself, served to moderate a hastily passed bill and quick rewording before assent. It also brings considerable public attention to the topic. It has not always resulted in a change, but sometimes it has.

Yes, but if the position is filled by PM appointment, it is not independent and, like AB's approval of the anti-trans legislation, is simply a rubber stamp - not a check.

I am not entirely comfortable with removing the possible check on the legislative branch.
While rare, there have been a couple of occasions where the GG/LG has delayed assent for bad decisions. It would be nice to have this rôle filled by a neutral party. Perhaps appointed by the Supreme Court, instead of the PMO?

I respectfully disagree.
In my opinion, the CBC has the best interests of the Government of Canada at heart.
My own interests do not appear to align with those of the #LPC or the #CPC. For example, I say "the #Genocide in #Gaza", and act on that acknowledgement, in accordance with Canada's ratified treaties.

Well, my point was, while the EU is diversifying, a substantial portion of the renewable infrastructure is from China.
Which is backing Russia.
The implication, in my opinion, is shifting from a threatening nation to its master.

It is on my list of things to test install/use before Winter holidays. I do not have any experience with setting it up, or use. I do not endorse its use, I just am aware of it as a method of accomplishing some of the goals.
IPFS has innate risks, including the potential for your node to be used in botnet command-and-control, among other risks. Please read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterPlanetary_File_System and make your own decisions.

IPFS shares a portion of your storage system with the universe. Files are encrypted in transmission and at rest. Files are broken into a random number of random-sized fragments, with each fragment stored redundantly across multiple hosts.
You will have the 'address' of the file, and you can choose to share this. The address allows normal network file system access to the file.
Files are resiliently available, with strong anti-censoring effects.

Just remember that gratitude grapes taste wonderful, but the whole vine + fruit can weigh in quite a bit! Vineyards seem to cut them back aggressively often (again, not an expert, but I used to steal grapes from my mom's vine - it tore down the fence! Concord grape is natural candy.)

The arbutus will hurt itself in very short order. I think the best option, since this is a young tree/new growth, would be to stake it, using a cushioned wire/line to pull it well away from the fence for a few years.
The tree will stabilize away from the fence, but will move back toward it until it has enough growth to over-power the previous growth's natural shape. A local nursery store can give better advice than I can.
I suspect your grape will love that fence, too!

So I have this inquiry, which I suspect you could help me with.
A nonprofit in BC wants to look at fedi, in part to identify accounts engaged with their area of endeavour, looking for people/groups with whom to collaborate. I do not think it's possible, without violating all kinds of fedisocial norms and rules, and be compliant with profile hashtags like nobots, noscrape.
But I am not an expert. Can it be done with privacy sensitivity?

Do you work better with a sound track going?
There is a fine line between background music, and rocking out to some favourites - the former helps me get stuff done, the latter takes too much of my attention away from doing a good job, or even doing anything but dance.
Generally I keep the sound off, because I never know where the mood will take me.

Rate cuts induce inflationary pressures. Borrowing money is cheaper, so corporations and people borrow more, buy more. You **raise** rates to fend off inflation.

Agree to all the above, but none of us are mentioning *why*: the Le Pen sisters and the FN/NR, who have the support of various international groups engaged in political meddling within France.
It appears to me M Macron is acting to prevent an upwelling of 'populism' in reaction to the actual populism of French progressives. I think he is misguided, but well-intended.

No, I do not think so.
It is in BC's self-interest to ensure the dollars spent to purchase the ship have the maximum positive impact for BC.
Purchasing a ship from China does not do this. Its only redeeming characteristic is that it can be done swiftly.
The exact same standard applies to BC Ferries as to myself: ethical purchasing, ability to self-maintain. In fact, BC has statutes requiring it.
They appear to be ignoring their own law.

Hmm. I cannot make the silicon which makes the chips which I use.
But I can, and do, choose to purchase products made as ethically as possible. And I can, and do, build my own complex things which I use every day. So do you; I have seen some of them.
I could buy the cheapest possible. Or hire someone to do the job cheaper/faster than I could; sometimes I do.
But I continue to DIY when I can, primarily for the freedom to fix it, when I need to.
That is the world I build.

The shipbuilder is now named China Merchants Industry Weihai. https://www.imarinenews.com/21757.html
As you may know, China Merchants Group is the common English name for the companies, and they are a State Owned Enterprise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Merchants_Group That is, BC has contracted the government of China to build its ferries.
China is widely regarded to have modern slave labour, and flexible environmental standards.

@nprofile…wuyc
Well, I would say Canadian shipbuilders have higher salary, and better environmental regulations, which means they require higher recompense. And they were told the maximum payout would not be viable.
Why would anyone submit a bid for a job which cannot be profitable in their environment?
Why would the government establishing those requirements make them compete with lowest bidders who are known to use slave labour?

BC has the second-largest shipbuilding industry in Canada. Seaspan's construction serves and services international ships and shipping, and is involved in military contracts with Canada. Unsurprisingly, it mostly builds tugboats.
The NDP's Fast Cats 'fiasco' was a disaster, yet those designs germinated an international industry. Someone has to be first, someone has to make the disastrous mistakes. But without BC Fast Cats there would, effectively, still be no motor cat industry.
