Hmmm… this reminds me of a few loteks.
One was a prefilter on a home's gutter system which fed into a cistern system: the down spout had a gap, in the middle was a flat panel of wire grid at 45°, below which was a funnel back into the downspout. Leaves, needles, nuts, etc got shunted away.
The other was similar, over a koi pond a large frame was hung at an angle, with screening to redirect fall leaves. Only came out as the season changed.
