I haven't used up all my old oils yet but I had to try yours right away. Could immediately tell the quality when I opened the jar and the smell wafted. I had grocery store olive oil next to me and it smelled rancid by comparison. It was no contest. Bitcoiner goods really are made different.
Cooked some white rice for the week and added the olive oil into the rice cooker. Its a trick we use - we cool and freeze our rice in batches so its quicker to reheat the next time. Olive oil keeps it from drying out upon reheat and adds a subtle "extra depth" to the flavor.

Ive got a good potential setup for keeping them protected. Theyd live in the "room" under the deck thats fenced in. Id probably only need to make some sort of chicken run so they cam get sunlight.
At the moment smell is my biggest open concern. I have a screened in deck above where I want the coop and the space is used pretty regularly. I wouldnt want dust or smell everywhere. Its a semi outdoor space anyways so im not looking for spotless but I also don't want to feel like im in a barn when im having cheese and wine on a midsummer night.

Chickens are dusty?! That's good insight.. i wouldnt want chicken dust floating in my entertaining space... The deck above is covered and screened. Would it be crazy to insulate or cover the underneath side with plastic sheeting? Some would still come in from the screens on the side but surely if I block the flooring that'll take care of most of it?

Under the deck as their coop. Its like 6ft height under there, fenced in with lattice/house and theres a door.

How thick of a bed of shavings should I be aiming for ultimately? I do vermicomposting so im relatively aware of how much thickness is needed to cover rotting food smell, but idk how that translates to chicken poop. Also, is there any permaculture type things I ca do with the waste?
And how bad is it really once the smell is contained. Would i be able to entertain normie guests on the deck above without them wanting to get out of the "barn"?

Good call on repurposing stuff and starting small. I should have plenty of materials and random other stuff for a decent salvage coop to start.

Oh this is good to hear. My current setup in my head is under my deck, with the house's foundation on 2.5 of the sides (2 full sides and like 5 ft on a the third side) with the remaining areas already fenced with a lattice (needs thinner sized fencing for predators) and door. I wouldnt be able to put a drop cloth but its already quite wind protected and I have power there so I could run an overhead heater if needed?
Right now the flooring is a pretty thick pad of gravel (seems like adding thick layer kf wood chip over that could work?)
Id probably build a wooden roost or whatever to stick in the corner .

TLDR: I need advice on raising chickens for eggs. It would be my first time ever trying something like this.
We don't have regular access to homegrown eggs so the @nprofile…mav2 Circular Economy Bitnic was a blessing. In fact, the eggs were so good, they helped me finally convince my wife to let me start chickens! I was in part inspired by @Otis_Bitmeyer who said something along the lines of "figure out a way to become a useful producer".
I never really had pets as a kid and certainly know nothing about chickens. I live in an HOA but idgaf and willing to risk the karens. My initial thought is to properly fence in the ~300sqft space i have under my 2nd floor deck and make some sort of chicken run along the outside. Im very handy so no worries building something if its not too time consuming.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I don't know the first thing about their care and what it takes. I also live in zone 6b with very snowy cold winters (assuming that matters) and we constantly have hawks flying overhead and coyotes/raccoons in the area.
Thank you Nostr for giving me the resources and confidence to do the things I never thought I could.

If youre displaying 0.00000001 thats in Bitcoin terms. In sats terms its 1. Your argument that sats is more confusing because of decimals is literally what using "sats" solves. The debate isn't even here, its semantics.
Should that unit (which we both agree solves the decimal issue) represented by the word Bitcoin or sats?
The word Bitcoin already represents something else in the current lexicon so making this unit also called Bitcoin makes it more confusing not less.
It doesn't affect nor change the reality of math and numbers so arguing decimals is neither here nor there.

Because youre confusing yourself in your own post...
Dollars to Cents as Bitcoin to Sats. Not a hard concept to grasp, even for a 5 year old normie... ask me how I know.
In either case, calling it sats or Bitcoin doesn't change the fact the quoted number has no decimals either way. Not to mention normies are used to decimals... $12.50 is not a confusing number.
Using sats you would never quote decimals and you avoid the confusion of 100,000,000 bitcoin = 1 bitcoin.
Id agree with you if this was day 1 and bitcoin started out priced over $0.01. But there is 18 years of history at this point so good luck explaining how there are 21m Bitcoin forever and always, but there are also 2,100,000,000,000,000 Bitcoin.
100,000,000 sats = 1 bitcoin. Simple.

Yeah...unfortunately the ecotank Ive got has been a maintenence nightmare, but its better than other inkjets because tank vs cart. The tank is incredible and by far the best part of the printer. Maybe the only good part lol. But honestly every other aspect is just as shitty as any other printer. I find that the printer tends to break before I get through my second set of ink. So YMMV on the cost savings over cartridges. Ive yet to find a reasonably priced inkjet with good build quality...

I have a lot of sticker rxperience at this point.
Cricut maker is a great machine for home projects and small to medium scale. If youre making more than say 50 2-3 inch stickers per batch youre going to maybe want a bigger machine. The prep process is still very manual and a 8.5x11 sticker paper only prints 6-8 depending on shape and if youre good at tetris. It also generates a lot of waste as it needs pretty big margins. Overall its a really really good machine for what it CAN do, just know the limitations. Takes some getting used to but once you've got it dialed in its pretty reliable for small scale production.
I also have an ecotank but a lower model (ET8300 or someting. super cheap). The fact it was so cheap and can hold so much ink and not use cartridges is mostly worth the rest of the shittyness of the printer. High quality prints but its slow, has trouble printing like 4 or 5 full color pages back to back without splotching, and prints "wet" (nature of ink jet and better paper probably would help). It jams a lot with sticker paper and build quality is meh at best.
For stickers a one sided laminating machine is very time saving (est 30-40% saved). I do it manually with contact lamination and rollers but it takes WAY too long. Haven't found a good one sided laminator so lmk if you do...

Now regulate who can create/maintain ai models in the us.
Make it illegal to run unregulated models - the people cant be trusted not to run evil code! Legal open source is now "dead" in the US.

Its not really even about AI, thats just the mode of transportation so to speak. Create fear around a thing so that there is public outcry and support for when government regulations come down. Often for sensitive things (ex. Nuclear power) they will restrict who can do what. By killing open source and creating licenses and other artificial barriers of entry, it consolidates the power of that new tech or innovation to a select few. Easier for governments to control and easier for the ones positioned right to have a de facto monopoly.

2026-09-20 16:51:23 UTC

I just had a very exhausting conversation yesterday with some in-laws about this exact thing. The exact phrase: "New headlines say musk and all those smart tech guys are warning us about AI and how it will kill us all" was uttered without irony...
Long since retired, husband worked majority of his career for a 3-letter agency as a security analyst so they are right to be paranoid (they've seen how the sausage is made). Yes the surveillance state is very real and yes we are giving away all our data. She recognized how we give away our credit card pins, bank acct numbers, ssn numbers, and all that withiut second thought. That much she agreed to. But she cpuldnt make the connection to all this eventually leading to, trading freedom for safety.
Everything they spouted was pure mass media fear mongering talking points... she couldn't see how it was manipulation. She couldn't see how it was a path to eroded rights and state capture. She full on scoffed when I said that when the fear is big enough, enough ppl will be convinced to support laws that remove freedom for the sake of protecting us from AI (patriot act anyone?). Its crazy to me how someone can be so paranoid about data security and yet be the biggest bootlicker for the biggest personal data abuser out there. sad.

Better than butcher quality. Meetup members start turning ultrachad from all the high quality protein they're consuming. Or something. And the cherry on top is that the driver stacks sats and the meetups stack sats along the way too.
Too good to be true?

I disagree with the notion that the outside world has no idea what's going on. They certainly don't know the nuances of what we are arguing about. All they see is the headline saying things like "Bitcoin promotes CSAM" or "Bitcoin founder found in Epstein files" or other similar rage bait type headlines. The world is in fact watching.
Just the other day, Bitcoin came up in conversation with some normie aquaintences. One of the first things they said was, I heard the bitcoin founder guy was a pedophile and theres kiddie porm shared on bitcoin... they don't differentiate between the various arguments. They take every single headline and attribute it to Bitcoin. Not core, not knots, not bip110. They simply lump all the headlines in and count it all as crypto (maybe a fee discerning can identify Bitcoin as being dofferent).
That said, fair point that here on nostr its an echo chamber of an echo chamber... but most people opining are doing so outside of just nostr. Its public facing and its all bad PR.

Does that further the technical discussion? What are you gaining by calling someone a scammer over what is ultimately an unprovable position? Are ordinals scams? Some say yes, some say no. Its not objectively provable across the board as a blanket statement. So making that leap of assumption calling all ordinal supporters scammers is exactly what im talking about. Its an entirely unconstructive conversation. In a public forum woth visibility outside of just bitxoiners, those folks only see bitcoiners calling other bitcoiners scammers.

Agree with this sentiment. Incentives are very important. But it is important to remember, a general incentive may exist in a given proposal, but that does not immediately and automatically paint that person as a pedophile (using that as an example). Similarly, someone can be a pedophile and still have good suggestions and implementations. Not saying that IS the case one way or the other, but advocating for nuance and first principles

The way I can see something like this implemented is to take a ratings system (like what 4v4music.com has). You build a profile of each npubs activities, most zapped tracks, ratings, etc. Now take that data and extrapolate the tags for those tracks. And now you have a database of people/likes.
You then compare your npub with others who's profile most closely matches yours (highest wot scores). Any of their top tracks not listed in your activities list are probably good recommendations for new music.

The problem with onboarding using the NGU narrative is that when it inevitably happens, most those same people will sell.
Its the continued education in between cycles that matters. NGU will get them in the door but easy come easy go. We as bitcoiners need to continue educating those we newly onboard or else it only puts more sats into institutional hands. What, you think you invented buy the dip?

Just like money, most people dont understand how music works. How does the song go from an artists head, turn into a song, get onto Spotify, and into your earholes? Theres a workflow, a music pipeline. And just like how dollar bills have to go from being a twinkle in powell's eye to a scam voucher in your back pocket.
And similar to money, the music pipeline is centrally captured by a cartel of 3 major corporations.
And just like with bitcoin, ***this is important*** for people to understand and do something about ***if you care about music beyond tswift or whatever lil g pussy dolla holla flava of the day copypasta music is out today***
Its not enough for an artist to write, record, and produce a song. That song has to be published and distributed in a place where people are gathered, for you to hear it. This pipeline is almost entirely controlled by the 3 majors.
The 3 majors only care about profit. They and their affiliates are the only ones who can quickly/easily drop the songs into the algo controlled musicmoney box (spotify, itunes, etc). The songs that trigger it the best and make the most money gets even more radio airtime, promotion, and push (flywheel). So when they go out to sign, the A&R guys are told to go sign more of the same style. And they do, cause its easy and works. The algo continues to push a specific style, which forces it to make more money since the noise exponentially drowns the signal. Over time this homogenizes music.
***Dont be surprised the house is burning as you pour on the gas. ***
This is why music today is stale.
So if you want new music... If you want incredible sounds... and if you dont want music and culture to die out...
***ANON, you need to put in the proof of work***. Do the slightly harder thing, listen to DeMu and boost into the shows.
Stop using Spotify.

Correct.
Uploading to wavlake will publish your music everywhere.
Uploading anywhere else will publish your music everywhere BUT wavlake.
Not to dredge this back up but its important to have historical context:
The whole "semi-walled garden" thing js the issue podcasters have with wavlake and are very confused why nostr bros still embrace it as fervently as they do when theres other more freedom and open protocol aligned alternatives that exist. Yes, they are less convenient, but from their perspective im hearing a lot of "wait, aren't you guys bitcoiners? Didn't think youd trade freedom for convenience. "

The Metadata goes into the rss feed. How to do it depends on how you're building the feed... by hand or by a specific 3rd party service

That's another thing id love to see change if possible (i dont know what are the barriers). Mp3s are compressed... not good for music.

Sometimes the search can get wonky and takes a bit to properly load. There's also a demu button on the right if you want to discover anything that isn't on wavlake.
Also listen to the music shows. They basically curate tunes for ya. Check out homegrown hits, mutton mead and music, @nprofile…x9ev, lightning thrashes, flowgnar, sats and sounds. There are MANY others.
What kills me is almost all these ppl are on nostr seminrrgularly too...
