Oh good to know hens are generally quieter. I think where im planning to put them, they will be hidden enough if my neigh is hear them, they wont know from where. We have a swampy preserve in yhe back, prob not chicken habitat but my suburbanite neighbors wouldnt know that.
Good call on repurposing stuff and starting small. I should have plenty of materials and random other stuff for a decent salvage coop to start.
