I made mashed potato a different way than I've ever done before tonight.
I didn't want to have to boil them because that would throw out a lot of steam and raise the humidity in the suite when we already have issues with that.
So I washed and chopped them and then roasted them for 20 minutes and then covered them in foil for another half hour or so and they came out super soft and were really easy to mash.
Given I hate the smell of boiling potatoes, this was awesome.

We're BACK BABY! YEAR 13!
Wanted to get at least one Christmas themed horror movie reviewed before Halloween, and here we are and boy, what a dud...
But it does have a few saving graces. And I get to drop some FILM SCHOOLING! (Okay I never went to film school, but I did do a university course with an actual professor of film studies who was ON THE TELEVISION famous and aced the class.)
So, my friends, I present the 2018 film Secret Santa and... Oh dear...

@nprofile…qkvg @nprofile…pnhw It was awful. I'm neurodivergent as well and what with the video playing in one corner and ads on the other side and something at the top it was just completely overwhelming.
Even putting aside all that aesthetically, it was disgusting.

Hello, fellow Canadians.
The Federal Goverment has an online questionnaire you can fill in to tell them how you think they should proceed with the federal budget later this year.
Spoiler alert: WE NEED UBI, universal basic income would help so many Canadians.
A lot of the form is rich people bullshit, so politely remind them of Canada's vulnerable under the "Other" option.

@nprofile…jk4m The worst thing I have ever paid to see is the Robert Redford movie The Horse Whisperer.
My wife at the time wanted to see it and it was so bad at the end of it she turned to me and apologized.
Halfway through the movie, I had threatened to hang myself with my Twizzlers.

On August 10th, it will be 19 years since the great Tony Wilson died.
If that name isn't familiar, he's most famous for forming Factory Records, the most famous product of which was Joy Division/New Order.
If you have the time this weekend, I would highly recommend checking out the movie 24 Hour Party People.

(No idea if that link will work for everyone)
It's a biopic but largely about the characters who surrounded him rather than himself.

This is confirmed in JMS's autobiography as a Paramount executive told him that they screwed him many years later.)

While I do wish them success and hope I'm wrong, Amazon redoing The Grand Tour means Amazon fundamentally don't understand what the show is.
When we watched the show, we weren't tuning in to watch The Grand Tour. We were tuning in to watch Clarkson, Hammond and May.
Had they been on Coronation Street instead, we would have gone to watch Coronation Street, not The Grand Tour.
Both the BBC and Amazon failed to grasp this, it seems.

It has been on YouTube for months and months and all of a sudden I've now got a warning from YouTube that it's been demonetised for copyrighted content and blocked in one territory.

Well, it may be @nprofile…hg3l For Hope but the Christmas movie reviews continue...
Would you like some time travel in your Christmas? Would you like to ponder what life in 1905 would be like having spent a while in 2025?
Ella jumps forward 120 years and meets Nick. When Nick explains to Ella the advances of the last century, you will never guess what the first one he mentions is... Not if I gave you 120 years.
Read my review to find out. I remain baffled.

This time we are reviewing a movie that's 18 years old. P2.
It's Christmas Eve. Angela has worked late in her office building. Her car won't start and her office building is now locked down for the holidays.
Then a friendly parking lot security attendant offers to help...
What could possibly go wrong?

So I usually start my Christmas movie review blog annually at the beginning of November.
I've tried to add some horror movies in to roll Halloween into Christmas in recent years and I will be doing so this year.
For example the third Terrifier movie is set at Christmas and I've not watched the other two so I'm going to watch the whole trilogy this month and review all three.
Anyone know other interesting Christmas based horror movies? Might have already reviewed them but please send titles.

2025-10-02 18:36:55 UTC

2025-06-13 18:25:19 UTC

This week has been fucking shit.
I'm left dead financially because the government want me to be a subservient, crawling, snivelling wretch to them so I know my place in the world.
And then while I am absolutely delighted my girlfriend has a gig this weekend as I fully support her work because she's awesome, it's ended our weekend plans to be together.
And it's Father's Day in two days, which for me is the hardest day of the year and I will be alone for it now.😔

2025-06-12 06:23:34 UTC

As someone who reviews Christmas movies sort of for a living every year from November through December, I just read some news and oh joy, they're making yet another version of a Christmas carol as if there's anything left to say in that friggin' story.🙄

@nprofile…t3wn You do have a lot of good tracks. I do greatly dislike Laguna Seca, but that is entirely down to a torturous license test in Gran Turismo 2 driving me insane.
And I actually like the older layout better.
The one that runs turn two straight to turn five.

@nprofile…afth I did that a bunch a few months ago. I like watching the old ones because you can Google stuff and find out if there was any closure.

Amazon is ridiculous. I happen to see an ad for a portable MP3 player and it makes me very happy these are still a thing.
But under the buy it together thing Amazon have bundled it with two other MP3 players...
It's like when you buy a toilet seat and Amazon spend 6 months trying to get you to buy more toilet seats.

So back before the dark times on Twitter, somebody used to do a thread every Christmas Eve of people posting the ridiculous sleeping situations they had when going to stay with relatives.
It was always a highlight of Christmas Eve for me and I was wondering if anyone knows of anything similar going on?

This is how I'm going to describe my ex from now on. She didn't ask for a divorce. She brought dishonor on her house.

@nprofile…ypxz @nprofile…7vyy My family moved in there just as it opened and we only stayed there a couple of years before moving out. My lingering memory is water dripping down the walls of my bedroom as the place was built to the lowest cost possible and it didn't even last 20 years.
Oh and they had to cover the walkways as people kept throwing themselves off them.
A friend I made in my teens, we discovered we both lived there when we were young and visited it when it was being demolished.

@nprofile…7vyy @nprofile…ypxz I lived in a brutalist housing complex when I was young. I don't know if that's why but I love brutalism too.

@nprofile…569z Something very minor but I just noticed on Christmas Lounge, there's a track called Psycho Jingle Funk.
It was spelled pyscho.
Just thought I'd point out.
