What a weak captain!
Well yes. I think I’m through it, but tired. So early night. And start on my list of weeks worth of stuff I now have, in the morning.
I expect cough to linger, and tiredness to linger. I hope that is all.
And I need to help my wife, who has now just gone down with it as well.
Having been practically a hermit for a week before this, it baffles me.
Thanks all for the support.
New exciting PCB stuff to come soon!

@nprofile…r9vg yeh, that one in the top left is an Ag9903, but I am also trying an Ag97012. I’ll no doubt blog on progress soon. I have found hand soldering the Ag9903 is not simple, so far. But I suspect my test boards may have some other problems.
This is testing both PoE and an SPI Ethernet. So a fun project.

Job for tomorrow.
Going to lie down, still tired. And my hand smell of flux and charred PCB now - arg!

I am old, and cis, so may have misunderstood. But this EHRC stuff on female toilets???
Previously someone looking like a man would be challenged. Maybe even banned from the establishment.
Now, if I understand it, someone who is a man, has always been a man, looks like a man, but wants to use a female toilet - simply has to say “I was born a woman so I have to use this toilet”. Challenge defeated and no chance an establishment would risk a discrimination case by banning.
Have I got that right?

Is "raw milk" just the latest "anti-vax" craze?
Many people want “the good old days” before vaccines and pasteurisation and so on, forgetting that in those days only half of your kids lived to school age (and raw milk did not help that).
Heck, parents did not name kids for months, knowing they would not last long enough. It is illegal in Scotland. Oddly it is legal in England and Wales, but needs a registered farm, held to way higher hygiene standards, selling from farm shop, with a warning!

If you are thinking of jumping ship from @nprofile…uug8 to @nprofile…e5zh then well...
DO IT!
#Lectronz was smaller, but the latest #tindie fiasco has changed that. You can see their own posts of new listings have gone from every few days to many a day. They are getting bigger.
But they do EU IOSS as well.
And they do US tariff as percentage.
And they do postage based on weight.
And they can import products from Tindie.
And, importantly, our last weeks sales match what we would have had with Tindie.

You are making work for us :-)
As you know, FireBricks can use acme.
We typically allow one provider (obvious default being let’s encrypt), and pondered if we should allow more than one. We decided not, for now.
But bingo, you create a reason one might want.
By the way, we just added let’s encrypt for IP based certs!

Strange how the revised @nprofile…uug8 #tindie made sure the “taking money from customers” worked. But they did not make the “paying money to suppliers” worked.
How the fuck is that not a SCAM at this point?!?!?
PAY US NOW FOR THE DISBURSEMENT OR FACE LEGAL ACTION.
This is not complicated really.
Please boost, this is a major new story and impacts a lot of sellers.

Second time I have seen a nicely printed sign in a shop window with a #QR which when scanned says your free trial is over.
Just make the QR go to your own website FFS.

So I have to re-watch all 4 series first.

Silly #physics question and I am sure I know the answer.
On TV shows, a window, under pressure (in space or under water, whatever) is often depicted as cracking, then cracking some more, and then blowing totally, over a dramatic period of several seconds.
But surely once pressure is enough to crack, the cracked window is now substantially less resistant to the pressure and so will instantly cascade to more cracks and blow, all within fractions of a second.
Yes?

@nprofile…65q8 well I guess social places, like pubs (which may not interest everyone).
Oddly enough this is exactly when business rates have come back and hit a number of local pubs with totally impossible figures (like £75k pa) for one place. Running a pub is incredibly difficult, and the one I know is just under the floor area, thankfully, as even a few thousand in rates would shut them down.
It is not like they get much for those rates, not even the bins emptied!

@nprofile…65q8 just a thought exercise.
If the US (or Belize) passed a law which allowed some US body to issue “fines” to OFCOM, do you think OFCOM would pay those fines? Or would it suddenly be the case that they have no jurisdiction outside their own country?
I’m sort of curious how hypocritical OFCOM would be?

@nprofile…5a58 @nprofile…65q8 I really don't think either should count as users of the instance.
I can publish shit on a web page without it being a user to user age gates service. How is my single user instance different to that?

2026-03-03 09:42:04 UTC

The prospect of age verification on mastodon is a fun one. I have a single user instance, indeed any kid with a raspberry pi could be the same.
In my case, as instance administrator, I can be 100% certain the one user, me, is over 18. I’ve counter the birthdays!
That said, it is a while since I read @nprofile…65q8 blog on this and I have a feeling that as administrator I am not a user, so my instance may have zero users, even.
It is a strange time to be around.

I just noticed how I have 3k followers.
I really appreciate it - social media is not just what I see, but who sees me, and why? It is a two way thing.
And in some ways they are linked by what I choose to boost - linking what I see to who sees me, sometimes for the first time.
It is a fun system.
But I sort of feel an obligation to those following, and wonder what they want from me. I hope it is just "me being me".
But please say, please boost, what do people want from me?

@nprofile…x759 if a “provider” is a “user”, when not a business, and a visitor is a “user” then surely any personal static web site comes under OSA, as provider user creates content (even if using vim and html files) that visitor users can encounter.
