Made some stecca bread. As I was pulling the baguettes out of the oven the Big Book of Bread arrived. Can't wait to try some of these recipes.

Every body making jokes and I'm sitting here as a born English speaking American at 49 years of age looking at this and realizing that I don't think I have any idea why it's not `willn't` instead of `won't`.
Surely this must have been explained to me in grammar school, but somehow I just internalized that 'won't' meant 'will not' and I completely purged anything related to why the 'will' became 'wo'.
English majors help!

Coming to learn better the differences between #grep #awk and #sed.
Learning that my frustration with grep is that I misunderstood what its (at least base and intended) function is, and I've been trying to make it do things that are much more suited to things like sed and awk.
Time to learn some awk.

Think I'm about ready to setup #snac2 and migrate to a small personal instance. Right now I'm stuck trying to decide what subdomain would be most clever/funny to use along with my heavy.rocks domain. This is always the hardest part. I guess the straightforward answer is snac.heavy.rocks. But that doesn't feel fun enough.

Just discovered a new (new to me at least) Wayland tiling window manager last night.

Played around with it a little last night and so far I think I like it.
Anybody aware if the is any controversy or drama around this project I should be aware of before spending more time with it? Getting tired of starting to use something only to find out there's some big problem with a projects community or maintainer.

#OpnSense #CrowdSec #Networking
I recently setup CrowdSec on my OpnSense server. I've never used it before. This is just on my home internet interface. It is typical/expected to see over 130k 'attacks' over 7 days? Or does that hint at me doing something wrong? Seems excessive, but then, maybe this is totally normal.
I need to do some more reading about the 'Unknown Behavior'. Maybe I have something mis-configured there.

I wonder how many companies have performed any sort of validation of LLM assistants that they allow or direct their employees to use. I'd be curious to see what those validation plans looked like and what the results were.

I went through a similar exercise recently in an attempt to minimize and simplify my neovim config. I'm pretty happy with where I wound up, but I still feel like it's quite a few plugins. But moving to a single config file seems to make it at least feel a lot simpler to me? I think.

#HomeAssistant
I have these bedside pendant lights that came with these little golf ball bulbs. I had been looking for small, standard socket (e12?), smart bulbs to put in. I found these A12 Ledeply zigbee bulbs. I didn't realize these are only compatible with the Phillips hue hub. I actually had an unused hub so I gave them a try. One appears to be a dud. Anyone aware of any other small zigbee bulbs that don't require the hue hub? Sending these back.

One of the nicest things about having an #OpnSense firewall/router and you're own WAPs is that you can switch your #ISP and all you typically need to do is give your router a quick reboot and you're good to go. No reconfiguring your #Network and setting everything back up on the ISP supplied router. Locked in to 2 gig fiber up and down for ten years at $80 a month. Last time I had fiber I was paying $85 for 1 gig.

Thank you. This was... let's see... the sixth house I've owned and the first I had built. It's been a LONG time in the making. Started out with real fixer uppers. The first house I bought I put pretty close to what I paid for it in materials. Luckily I had some great friends that helped me put a lot of free (as in pizza and beer) labor into it.

I've been hesitant to share photos of the house we've been building because... Idk... We are certainly not wealthy, but if I saw this house my first thought would be some rich asshole lives there. And that just makes me feel weird about it all. It's been a struggle but we somehow pulled it off. We didn't have enough money to finish the landscaping up front. We'll need to deal with that as we go. Anyhow. Here's a photo of week 1 to last week from the road looking down the driveway.

I tried playing around with Helix editor a couple times but felt the same way. I think if I hadn't learned Vim first, I probably would have been perfectly fine with Helix, but alas, I just couldn't get comfortable with the switch.
I converted my config from packer to lazy like a year or so ago. I never really feel like I know what I'm doing, but it seems to work well. You can peek at mine for reference if you want. I probably really need to clean it up some.

That's actually what I was trying to use to check everything, but since the email is bouncing and not getting delivered to them it's not telling me anything at all.

Installed #Postfix and configured #DKIM and got #DNS configured and I can send an email from the server to my proton email and it no longer goes to the spam folder, it actually shows up in my inbox and I think cool, got it all set correctly.
But now I notice that it seems like any other address I try to email (not my proton email address) I get a bounce message saying the email address doesn't exist.
Any #email gurus got a suggestion for what I should be looking at?

To each their own, but for me, I have zero interest in any other social platform than the fediverse. The community is plenty large enough, diverse enough, interesting enough, to work for me. I have no fomo about any of the corporate and vc backed projects. Hopefully you'll stick around here, the more the merrier, at least to an extent. Haha. I'm ok with certain types of individuals staying over on the dumpster fire or moving to one of the others.

Anybody happen to have a bookmark for something that walks you through maintaining/migrating/restoring your #PostgreSQL setup through an #Ubuntu LTS release upgrade?
I've tried to work/stumble my way through it like 3 or 4 times now, I keep restoring the snapshot, and I think I might be ready for some "follow these steps you idiot" instructions.

#Linux server (VPS) monitoring/alerts. What do y'all use for simple/basic monitoring and notifications? I don't have much experience with these programs, but things like Zabbix/Nagios/Prometheus seem like they might be a bit overkill to monitor a single VPS. But then I'm also not sure writing my own scripts would be good enough. Though, maybe I'm wrong on that. It would be a good learning experience. Idk. I'm reading some articles but I'm curious to hear some other opinions.

So many people at the apartment complex here are stressed out about these baby owls. They can't fly yet but keep climbing up to the tops of these trees hanging over a fairly busy roadway. They stumble and flap their wings to get their balance again. We all gonna be heartbroken if something bad goes down.
