I tried playing around with Helix editor a couple times but felt the same way. I think if I hadn't learned Vim first, I probably would have been perfectly fine with Helix, but alas, I just couldn't get comfortable with the switch.
I converted my config from packer to lazy like a year or so ago. I never really feel like I know what I'm doing, but it seems to work well. You can peek at mine for reference if you want. I probably really need to clean it up some.
