Trying to get Gen Xers to recall potential disillusionments and moral injuries after them...
And its AIDS and Challenger, but they then go boundless naming Iran Contra to OJ Simpson, and that is so fucking Gen X.
9/11 happened in midst of children who suffered a greater moral injury over basically being wholly instructed on a world that wouldnt exist. And told they had to help fix it in contrary ways to a 82-92 understanding of those instructions. Which priors fought them on entirely.

I think the biggest change in outlook for me over the past few years is mostly that immediacy is not the point, the dogged pursuit over time is the point, the vigilance is the point, and it's not some failing of thought or spirit that even if all goes well, we don't see the fruit until 10 years later or so.
And that's not fine, but it is how it is. We need to eat now, but the fruit isn't there yet.

Something of interest to me is how invoking it and then summon the USMIL to do it, is how an already barely cogent economy stays upright even through the first two weeks of it, when most of us are either hiding or fighting or taking an extra hour and a half to navigate the fighting and checkpoints?

2025-12-19 03:23:11 UTC

Conflict is neccesary and to be avoided and I think people mostly lost the first part.

2025-10-30 06:05:31 UTC

I do gotta say, the sclerosis of America really is racism and more acutely racial caste where Black folks are designated permanent underclass.
All this fucking Volk Left shit on top of everything else up until this point just makes it clear - the class caste really is a problem and acutely so but its like, no matter how healthy that is or could be, if you always have a permanent racial underclass and the Nation's collective Id goes fucking blinkered in rage any time its pushed and tested, its still gonna be a shitty Nation State and not one getting into cahoots over.

2025-10-19 02:07:02 UTC

Well, it was a big affirmation march and I appreciate it not having to 'work' with hyper awareness and teaming up with medica-y-care folks, but I am so goddamn restless and every single non risky thing feels like a waste of my flavor and appetites.
I do think some folks are being ridiculous about suggested over-opsec for No Kings, and affirmation marches in general. The point is 'how many of us are there like this even' and that includes daring to not give a shit if they can be made and then 'talked to' by suits, or just whisked away one day, or whatever The State will do with it.
Theres always going to be disagreement on what to do, how to do it, but i really do think if it isnt your bag and not your spec, youre not doing them or yourself any favors recommending May 29th Protocols for something decidedly not May 29th 2020 in so many ways. Its about matching the vibe in general and individual takecare with offers to others for masks etc.
This is if youre not gonna go grognard hardass anyway on the what to do and how to do - if theres only a handful of things that will do and nobody is doing them, thats a real fucking way of backseat driving people towards it by starting with their kit, like theyd be future comrades if the state wont nab em for this today? Even if their kit and signage signals an ideological gulf that kit doesnt fix?
Anywho, this is actually about backseat driving for the most part anyway. Let people cook even if you know its kinda meh.

Look, people on mastodon over think it, and the over thinking it is mostly determinant of gravity on individual uptake.
The craic is materially different over there in a way that is so painfully noticable, for better and worse at the same time.
And its something where instead of gnawing arms off replicating the same problem to solve with 'why wont the masses join us in our glorious project', and then riddling the project with 'how do we fix the project that is far from perfect' bullets, just post goddamnit. Stream of thought no meta posting.

The social pressure on the jury to not laugh at the most ridiculous fabricated pathos puller ever conceived, just to have the defense team cut a 30 second spot with the victim talking about how they got their alleged killer off and that's a good thing.

My whole Helpdesk Career was basically wife going 'You're a computer geek who just does it for fun, why not get paid a little something for being a geek' and just running with it one iterative learning experience after another, the more technical it got. It's really hard when you get validation in just being a enthusiastic dilletante in so many other places and know that's what you're doing, and it simply doesn't carry over in very specific things, like the arts.

THIS. STRUCTURED PRACTICE.
Practice isn't you noodling around or just jamming, it's a specific thing you do with a validating mechanism that you got the hang of it at least and can dial it in even better.
I see it all over the place and even got into an argument with my boss about this recently - practice is a specific thing you do to instill a performative reflex.
You get into the parts of why practice is hard to just do and how the practice structure are daunting and humiliating, but that can be toyed with at least. Having to practice though...no, you gotta find a way to cultivate your skills.
I'm not a good musician, I don't practice, but I get it in every domain where I dabble for my own fun.

See, toons as this cultural lexicon of the writers and animators is amazing for basically capsulating what was known and referential for future generations. Intentional or not, it does it where the range of reference gives you an idea of the team and what captured their fancy and intrigues.
Bugs as Valkyrie on the cartoonishly proportioned horse always got me, but I also got a payload of 'this is opera, this is a specific kind of Germanic Opera' and its like, whether youre fan of Wagner or like Bugs in drag cause there has never been coyer, its a cultural artifact of appreciation and reference.

Liberals cant imagine saying shit to ballpark where others are at and get together, for far more mundane, because...
A. They treat everything as earnest argument for them to be wooed by, or to argue against, cause thats reason applied to politics or some shit
B. They dont congregate for their politics and partisanship except every so often, as The State abides
C. They enjoy(ed) a status quo advantage of the media being some carrier of their basis.
D. They cant game out how minority parties play and seek to win, and refuse to look at the scoreboard over their lifetimes
