My whole Helpdesk Career was basically wife going 'You're a computer geek who just does it for fun, why not get paid a little something for being a geek' and just running with it one iterative learning experience after another, the more technical it got. It's really hard when you get validation in just being a enthusiastic dilletante in so many other places and know that's what you're doing, and it simply doesn't carry over in very specific things, like the arts.
