For me, Halloween is Samhain, a Celtic festival. I don't associate music with it, and I'd like to join in, so here's some of my favourite folk music
A Tergo Lupi - Fade Under (album Hide)
Wardruna - Birna (album Birna)
Heilung - Krigsgaldr (album Ofnir)
Blackbraid - The Spirit Returns (album Blackbraid II)
The HU - The Real You

I suddenly thought about Sophie Ellis-Bextor yesterday and wondered what she might be up to musically these days
Apparently, she released an album last year called Perimenopop - which I confess I haven't listened to yet

PSA: I know you know this, but just to be safe 🙏
The verification spam/scam accounts have evolved to look like support bot accounts and include posts informing you that you've won a prize for the most active user, click on the link to claim it
As well as the usual posts of, your account is temporarily suspended until you click a link
Of course, your posts are wonderful and you do deserve a prize, but it's just not in this year's financial budget, it's a scam 🤡

2026-07-30 11:50:12 UTC

Many users of the fedi probably don't see the extent of the spam & bot activity on network as their server admins & moderators act like human firewalls keeping spam & bots out of your feed & mentions
You probably haven't seen it as it gets dealt with quickly & on metalhead.club we don't talk about it much as we believe our members should be able to enjoy the server & the network without worrying about it
@nprofile…5uep the admin of metalhead.club is one of the most patient people you'll meet, he's asking for this as it's needed
If you've an account on GitHub & want to help your admin & mods please read & consider upvoting
Thank you 🙏

Someone found this useful, so I will share in case it helps others:
If you log into your fediverse account using a web browser you can explore the account settings and find things that are not available via the mobile applications
There it's possible to find lots of things, such as:
Set account to slow mode - stop the constant motion of your feeds so you can look when you have time
Add an alt text to your banner and profile pictures
See server announcements
If you change some settings & save them, they will remain changed when you go back to using your mobile application :)

The cool thing about a decentralised system with no overarching algorithm is that we all get different experiences.
As a mod, I keep an eye out & see stuff that non-mod users don't see unless it breaks containment & becomes a big issue.
For the second time this week I've just seen stuff that mastodon.social has dealt with so well that if you weren't in the right place, at the right time and fast enough, you would not be aware of it.
When you see something negatively affecting the system some time in the future, please spare a thought for all the stuff that is being done to keep your timelines and feeds running well 🙏

Recently someone here mentioned peanut butter noodles and how yummy they were, I had lunch home alone so I did an experiment.
I found a recipe online & adapted it to what I had in the kitchen & with more tweaking it might be suitable to feed others with ;)
For the sauce I mixed:
2 teaspoons of sunflower oil
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1 heaped tablespoon of cashew nut butter
2 tablespoons of hot noodle water
Something wasn't quite right, which is why it needs tweaking, it might be peanut butter is better, & there was no way I'd use the lard the recipe called for 😅

I was looking at the #BandcampFriday hashtag & it's great to see it's full to the brim with all music genres 🎉
I wonder if it'd be helpful for metalheads to have an extra hashtag to be able find metal music, bands, artists and fans easier.
I humbly suggest also using #BandcampFridayMetal as an extra hashtag ✊🎶

Recent activity shows as the fediverse ages many servers will continue without issues, however, some have been abandoned by their admins, but not unplugged.
Everyday users shouldn't be burdened with admin or mod issues, but maybe it's good to keep a casual eye on the health of your server by doing any of the following occasionally:
Check the admin is active on the system
Check the server gets software updates
Check your local server timeline to see what content is posted, what's permitted on the server, if there's content that should be moderated but isn't
If your server passes the health check, great!
If it raises doubts consider investigating more 🙏

Looks is like the verification scam has moved to include Pixelfed.
I know you all know, but it never hurts to remind people 🙏
The fediverse doesn't do verification of accounts for monetisation
No moderation team, admin, or account on any other server other than the one your account is on can freeze, block, hide, suspend your account beyond its own server.
Whatever server you are on, it's always good to know who your admin account/s are & to know them, or how they work a little 😊
Plus, if you get a scam message, please report it so your server moderation team are aware & can deal with it 🙏

Random Monday thought:
What is it with non-metalheads thinking metalheads have no musical ear or taste in other music?
It's like, you like noise for music and all noise is equal.
Nah! I specialise in noise which means I can distinguish non-musical noise from musical noise. Go listen to a metal artist do something non-metal and you'll see what I mean.

Most of you know, but just in case
The fedi, like anywhere on the internet, has scammers
Scammers incite panic by mentioning account deletion or freezing
On Mastodon, the server owner, server admin & server moderator accounts have profile badges & are the only accounts who can delete, limit or freeze your account completely
External admins & mods can only restrict or block accounts from their own server, they cannot system-wide nuke accounts
No-one will ask for your password, nor insist you transfer your account to an email address they specify
If in doubt talk to your server admin or mod team 🙏

It's common knowledge the fedi is full of geeks who love their Linux, but that's only one facet of the fedi.
It's also full of:
Lovers of mushrooms & insects
Musicians & fans who know all the deepest cuts of the music
People who love linking music to a theme, no matter how abstract
Artists, craftspeople, photographers
Lovers of random facts
Sharers of whatever is in their garden, park or green space
Furries & their conventions
Shares of photos of windows, doors, sea, flowers
Mini painters & table top role players
Board game players
The list goes on, if you want it, it's here, or you can create it ;)
¡Viva the fediverse!

2025-11-04 08:28:10 UTC

This scream invokes many reactions from me, one is how it screams for me when I can't ;)

For anyone who needs the last boost I boosted explained:
Friends don't let friends ?si=
This refers to sharing/posting links from a website/platform that gives video or music links with code containing a tracker
?si= the part of the code in a URL that means Source ID. It's a tracker that comes at the end of the link & can & should be removed before you share it
Having a Source ID means wherever the URL is found or used it's traced back to the original source. This allows platforms to track who interacts with who, where, when, how often...
And friends don't help platforms to track one another 🙏

2025-07-12 15:36:15 UTC

Looks like the "Verify your fedi account" scam is gaining pace, & evolving to look more real.
Your server admin will not ask you to click a link to verify your account. And no other admin from any other server will either, even if they do look like they could be part of the main Mastodon team. It's a scam.
Please report any post or DM that urges you to click any link to verify your account.
If you've any doubts about your account, now or on any other day, contact your server admin or mod team.

Also on Mastodon:
There's no evidence of a breach so don't change your password and don't spread the toots that are causing panic.

Mastodon admins & mods often deal with spam from their mobiles. Keeping the network spam-free even though the admin/mod is not on their computer but are actually shopping, traveling etc..
The last Mastodon software update v4.3.4 has a bug that severely limits how well the moderation module can be seen on a mobile.
The way to communicate this to the Mastodon devs is by creating a GitHub ticket & if there is enough upvotes the devs will prioritize the ticket & hopefully fix the issue 🙏
If you've a GitHub account please read & consider upvoting the ticket below.
Boosts for reach & awareness appreciated🙏

I'm not keeping up well on here today, but I did get to smack some spam. One has to be fast to hit the stuff into orbit before @nprofile…k4nl or @nprofile…gkdr ;)
As there are so many new people joining us on the fediverse, if you see spam, please report it and your moderation team will deal with it :)
Please don't click on any of the spam links, also, if you see shortened URL links the chances are that you might get an unwanted surprise.
Mastodon encourages the use of un-shortened links by making any web link take up a max of only 21 characters in a toot text, no matter how long it actually is.

Happy Tuesday 🎶
If you could choose the Christmas music playing in the shops, what would you pick?🎄
Today on #TuneTuesday share your favourite yuletide tunes
#PlayItAgainSanta
How many songs should you post? Can you play anything, you know even *that* song? I'll leave that to you to decide 😉

Happy Saturday 🎉
I love the fedi never sleeps feel on here.
I wake up to things posted by our future peeps, fully awake and telling us about what the day brings as I crawl out of bed.
Things from the later time zones still with time and doing the things I should have done, and providing life and fun when I'm awake at some unearthly hour here 😉
Plus the local time zone peeps also wondering where the coffee is, morning peeps ☕

Hey @nprofile…xlhv I had something bookmarked that @nprofile…vda6 posted and I think you might like it too

It's AOTY time, do you want to participate in a group Metal AOTY2024 list?
My proposal:
People can still do their own #AOTY stuff without any worries, this is just if you want your top 5 metal albums counted & added to a group list
Post your top 5 metal albums in a toot with the hashtag #GroupMetalAOTY2024
before 13 hours CET Sat14th Dec
I'll put the list here & my website afterwards
To make it as easy as possible:
Please DON'T tag me, I will find everything with the hashtag
Entries after the deadline won't be counted
I'll only count top 5 in toots, not videos or external links
I know it is early, but it's the only weekend I'm free🙏
Thank you

@nprofile…xlhv Are you an Australian? Asking purely to know if you'll get more info when it becomes available 🙏
No worries if you aren't, I've seen enough info to believe there's a year before any penalties will be handed out to platforms.
That gives admins a year to work out what to do about this...

Happy Wednesday ☕
Thank you to everyone who shared music for yesterday's #TuneTuesday you are super :)
The TT tin is not as full as it used to be 8'(
If you have an idea that you'd like to suggest that can be applied to any music genre, has not be done on TT recently and is a subject that is suitable for all, then drop me a DM to talk about it :)
It's okay if there aren't any, I will create weekly themes, but it is more fun when you peeps join in.
Thank you :)

The windows are open and my neighbours have an awful taste in music so there is no other option I need to do a metal journey, but in reverse order.
Starting with Heimdal
I know you will tell me I shouldn't like my #BlackMetal polished, but I like it shining like Obsidian, and Enslaved does that so well with this album 🎸
Do you have a favourite Enslaved album?
Edit: Adds Bandcamp link as I forgot

I've just added SaturDoom to the hashtag list on my website.
The website has a list of the hashtags most commonly used by the metalhead community, and also friendly metal and metal adjacent bands and artists that are active on the fedi.
If you have any suggestions of what should be added feel free to DM 🎸

PSA: Please remove URL trackers from YouTube links before sharing
YT adds strings of code to the end of web links so it can collect data such as what account sourced the video, who then clicks on it, webcrawlers can link public accounts sharing it...
Find & remove a URL tracker from a link:
If you have a long link & there's "?si=" in the middle, that's the beginning of the tracker. Remove the ?si= & all the subsequent numbers, letters & symbols after it. The cleaned link can be shared normally 😊

I thought I wasn't going to be able to do a #FridaySongFun this week, but an idea came that had to be done.
Use the sketches to form the name of a band and a title to one of their songs.
Please no correct answers in the thread but fun wrong answers welcome 😃
Clues may be needed this week, ask if that is the case 😊

These are the songs @npub1rz5…4cv7 is asking for today for the theme #YouAndMe

Worry about the world, the present & the future can make people want to talk & find comfort, or it can make people not want to talk about it, to have a space where they can escape for a brief moment.
No talking does not mean someone is unaffected or angry with someone who is talking, it just means they prefer not to engage in the topic.
Both are valid needs & ways of coping & should be recognised & respected. 🙏
