#Today is election day in Brazil, which is a guaranteed holiday as voting is obligatory. At least in my city, all public transport is free today to ease the way for voting.
Wish us luck, friends.

i survived my surgery! 🎉 i’m more or less 75% percent recovered (that 25% is going to be A Long Road, i’m told) but all is well. (my partner has made me promise no more upheavals in the form of international travel or major surgeries until at least the end of the year, so here’s to the next few months being a bit quieter. 🪵💥)

do i have among my followers an apiarist, or anyone who studies bees? 🐝 i saw a post claiming something which read to me as a bit far-fetched. my own research yielded no answers, and would like to ask an expert how possible the post is. (i’d would rather not spread something fake in the meantime!)
boosts welcome! :fediverse:

It’s certainly a gift to learn—and have more to learn—even after so many years. A pleasure too, a delight, a surprise. I am very lucky. ♥️🥰

Rather stunning conversations this morning over coffee of what ‘form’ thought takes: apparently my partner can play whole songs, in real time, in their clever head. For me? Only the concept of the thing, unless I subvocalise. It was only by delving into the nit and grit of it all that we were able to discover such divergence. You think you know a person!
I hope your world becomes a little richer #today, friends. ☁️

2025-12-10 11:17:55 UTC

A humid and irritating morning! What a congress skulks to pass in the fusk of the night can only be for ill! Traitors! Malversants!
…Yet all else is good. Even my coffee is nice today. I read a lovely essay this morning by a writer i much admire about verb tense. In a few hours, job (not work) will half-heartedly play at sedulity, knowing full well naught will be done until march, so i’ll sit with ｢lupercal｣ a bit. hopefully this will untangle my frustrations. 😔
good luck #today, friends. ⛅️

2025-12-08 10:35:46 UTC

Ah, the little wounds… A nightmare which seemed aleatory, yet over coffee revealed itself as a poking at the bruise of a recent wound. They say we remember these things that we, forewarned, should be forearmed, but i prefer less war in my metaphors.
Back to the job(not work)week, and it is so it is. I started again reading a book I had to put down because its prose was too much brashy poesy for me to bear: now, foreread is foreprepared…? 😅
Steal some time for yourselves #today, friends. 🌞

This month (day 26) contains a question which references a rubber duck. For what that question refers to, see this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging
Please enjoy, and as ever, we very much look forward to your answers! 🎉 Happy writing! 📝

state of the writing:
- first draft of ｢lupercal｣ was 19 chapters and 93k
- second draft (read:complete rewrite) of ｢lupercal｣ now sits at 81k and 11 chapters, and covers about ⅔ that of the first draft
it’s slower in all regards, but it’s better, by far. but will i make the 100k i set out to for #writingMonth? 😅 we’ll see!
on we go! #amWriting

#Today began as in ended yesterday, with a rising municipal body count. I attempt to stay offline, if only not to cycle in despair, even as it is the only thing on every lip. This morning I drank too strong coffee, which will not help my nerves, and I emailed a boat; I thought about what fingerprints we inadvertently leave in the clay of others. I will tend to my little garden, I will wash seitan, and I will watch the skies for a little taste of SUN.
Be gentle, friends. It is all so fleeting.

I’ve been a huge fan of your blog for years and was thrilled to see you here on the fediverse! So it is with a great amount of respect and genuine appreciation that I ask if “read” might not be a better word choice than “pronounce”? I had a very different expectation of what the blog post would be about, having read “pronounce.” 🙇

The thing about #chronicPain that those who’ve never experienced it don’t know and seemingly cannot internalise is that it isn’t the same as experiencing a pain, just repeated every day.
It compounds. It is a constant pressure on thoughts, emotions, expectations, experiences. It redefines what life is and can be. It is a constant presence, an additional party to every relationship. It breezily bypasses one’s pain tolerance with an incessant demand to fix that which cannot be fixed.

This morning, as I made my rounds to check who needs watering, I saw my little caetê-redondo now has four new leaves coming in from the thatch of dead sticks, little spears of vivid green piercing up from decay. His one original leaf remains, still half-brown, but now I sense a subtle vibrancy in that leaf, a quiet perseverance, where once I imagined only resignation.
Reader, I nearly cried from this simple joy.

#Today’s crowning achievement:
Some time ago I received a “dead” plant, a caetê-redondo / calathea orbifolia, with a single half-browned leaf and a clutch of black twigs where once had been other leaves. With little expectation, I consigned him to the shelf of other plants in various stages of rehabilitation.
For months, he languished there, no longer decaying, but not really recovering. Resting, I thought, perhaps in this final stage of hospice: the last calm before slipping away.

#Today I will read.
The wind is too cool and the clouds linger too lazily for beachgoing. The weekend is upon us, but this week’s struggles mind only a timekeeping of their own making, and care little for human conceit. Life and job make their temporal demands, yet I find myself barely aware of the day of the week.
I can’t fault myself for feeling adrift: this block ‘tween Christmas and Carnaval is a non-season, a period beholden only to itself, a moorless dockless stationless island of time.

I live in a city surrounded by mountains, but they’re small tame mountains that are very accessible and comfortable, friendly even. We love our mountains! They have sweet names, like Sugarloaf and Pretty Rock!
I cried on the train when I saw Mt Fuji for the first time, because things should NOT be THAT BIG.

Oh, i feel this. my phone, despite being in PT, despite being used 99% for PT, still wants to autocorrect vou (‘I go’ also ‘I will,’ so, y’know, an extremely common word) to VOUCH, a word that does not exist in PT but that i must have used once in EN. it does it every bloody time. i have no idea how to solve this lmao
