Donald Trump has a nuclear meltdown after Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation report is released — revealing that the evidence was "sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction" if the trial had gone to court.
This is a bombshell of historic proportions...
"The department’s view that the Constitution prohibits the continued indictment and prosecution of a president is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the government’s proof or the merits of the prosecution, which the office stands fully behind," Smith wrote.
"Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial," he went on.
The 137-page report was delivered by the Justice Department to Congress shortly after midnight on Tuesday and the contents are utterly damning.
The document tears into Trump for attempting to undermine and destroy our democracy by reversing the 2020 election and for repeatedly encouraging "violence against his perceived opponents" in the weeks leading up to January 6th.
Smith wrote that Trump was clearly to blame for the Capitol insurrection and pointed to the fact that numerous convicted rioters testified that they believed they were carrying out Trump's wishes.
The report was the result of an exhaustive investigation and included interviews with over 250 people as well as grand jury testimony from over 55 witnesses.
Smith strongly suggested prosecution in the report, citing Trump's "unprecedented criminal effort to overturn the legitimate results of the election in order to retain power."
Trump lashed out at Smith over the report in trademark fashion with a frantic Truth Social post—
"Deranged Jack Smith was unable to successfully prosecute the Political Opponent of his 'boss,' Crooked Joe Biden, so he ends up writing yet another 'Report' based on information that the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs ILLEGALLY DESTROYED AND DELETED, because it showed how totally innocent I was, and how completely guilty Nancy Pelosi, and others, were," Trump wrote, lobbing some of his usual baseless lies.
"Jack is a lamebrain prosecutor who was unable to get his case tried before the Election, which I won in a landslide. THE VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN!!!" he added.
The truth is that Trump knows that he's guilty and that history will judge him accordingly. He may be in the White House for a few years, but he'll be a felon forever.

What we witnessed last night in Trump’s interview with Terry Moran of ABC was not an exercise in transparency. It was a display of power, evasion, and contempt.
He brushed off the crushing impact of his 145% tariffs with a smirk, saying Americans signed up for it. That is indifference wrapped in arrogance.
He defended the illegal deportation of a man the Supreme Court ordered returned. He questioned the man’s worth, ignored the Court’s ruling, and showed the country exactly how little he cares for the law when it stands in his way.
When asked about Ukraine, Trump refused to answer. Instead, he boasted about Putin’s respect. A dictator’s approval is not a foreign policy plan. It is a warning.
His tone was hostile. He called the questions stupid. He whined that the reporter was not being nice. This was not a president offering answers. This was a man obsessed with control and allergic to accountability.
This is not normal. This is not acceptable. This is authoritarian at best, and fascism at worst.
He is not guiding a nation. He is staging a performance. One built on grievance, fear, and the constant need to dominate.
If we keep mistaking this for leadership, we will not just lose our way. We will lose our democracy.
Because what we saw last night was not strength. It was the machinery of decline grinding forward, one reckless answer at a time. And if we do not confront it now, we will wake up in a country we no longer recognize—and it will be too late to turn back.

The fourth pamphlet made a promise: “We will not be silent. We are your bad consciences. The White Rose will not leave you in peace.”
Sophie was caught tossing extra leaflets into her college atrium by a school maintenance man who called himself a “proud German nationalist." He called the Gestapo who arrested Sophie, Hans, and Christoph. Four days later, they convened a show trial after which they each were summarily beheaded.
Sophie's final words were “How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause? Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us, thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?”
After the war, Sophie and White Rose were lauded as heroes. Streets across Europe were named for her and White Rose. She has been honored in art, city squares, and cinema. And In 2003, she became the fifth woman honored with a bust in Walhalla Temple, the sacred shrine where Germany honors its heroes.
Indeed, resistance is never futile, and antifascism is in fact the hallmark of the Pantheon."

I don't think any US journalist has written as tough (and spot-on) a portrayal of the threat facing us as this Canadian, Andrew Coyne of the Toronto Globe and Mail. If you read to the end, you will be rewarded with the most flattering photograph yet of the convicted-felon-in-chief:
“Nothing mattered, in the end. Not the probable dementia, the unfathomable ignorance, the emotional incontinence; not, certainly, the shambling, hate-filled campaign, or the ludicrously unworkable anti-policies.
The candidate out on bail in four jurisdictions, the convicted fraud artist, the adjudicated rapist and serial sexual predator, the habitual bankrupt, the stooge of Vladimir Putin, the man who tried to overturn the last election and all of his creepy retinue of crooks, ideologues and lunatics: Americans took a long look at all this and said, yes please.
There is no sense in understating the depth of the disaster. This is a crisis like no other in our lifetimes. The government of the United States has been delivered into the hands of a gangster, whose sole purpose in running, besides staying out of jail, is to seek revenge on his enemies. The damage Donald Trump and his nihilist cronies can do – to America, but also to its democratic allies, and to the peace and security of the world – is incalculable. We are living in the time of Nero.
The first six months will be a time of maximum peril. NATO must from this moment be considered effectively obsolete, without the American security guarantee that has always been its bedrock. We may see new incursions by Russia into Europe – the poor Ukrainians are probably done for, but now it is the Baltics and the Poles who must worry – before the Europeans have time to organize an alternative. China may also accelerate its Taiwanese ambitions.
At home, Mr. Trump will be moving swiftly to consolidate his power. Some of this will be institutional – the replacement of tens of thousands of career civil servants with Trumpian loyalists. But some of it will be … atmospheric.
At some point someone – a company whose chief executive has displeased him, a media critic who has gotten under his skin – will find themselves the subject of unwanted attention from the Trump administration. It might not be so crude as a police arrest. It might just be a little regulatory matter, a tax audit, something like that. They will seek the protection of the courts, and find it is not there.
The judges are also Trump loyalists, perhaps, or too scared to confront him. Or they might issue a ruling, and find it has no effect – that the administration has called the basic bluff of liberal democracy: the idea that, in the crunch, people in power agree to be bound by the law, and by its instruments the courts, the same as everyone else. Then everyone will take their cue. Executives will line up to court him. Media organizations, the large ones anyway, will find reasons to be cheerful.
Of course, in reality things will start to fall apart fairly quickly. The huge across-the-board tariffs he imposes will tank the world economy. The massive deficits, fueled by his ill-judged tax policies – he won’t replace the income tax, as he promised, but will fill it with holes – and monetized, at his direction, by the Federal Reserve, will ignite a new round of inflation.
Most of all, the insane project of deporting 12 million undocumented immigrants – finding them, rounding them up and detaining them in hundreds of internment camps around the country, probably for years, before doing so – will consume his administration. But by then it will be too late.
We should not count upon the majority of Americans coming to their senses in any event. They were not able to see Mr. Trump for what he was before: why should that change? Would they not, rather, be further coarsened by the experience of seeing their neighbours dragged off by the police, or the military, further steeled to the necessity of doing “tough things” to “restore order?”
Some won’t, of course. But they will find in time that the democratic levers they might once have pulled to demand change are no longer attached to anything. There are still elections, but the rules have been altered: there are certain obstacles, certain disadvantages if you are not with the party of power. It will seem easier at first to try to change things from within. Then it will be easier not to change things.
All of this will wash over Canada in various ways – some predictable, like the flood of refugees seeking escape from the camps; some less so, like the coarsening of our own politics, the debasement of morals and norms by politicians who have discovered there is no political price to be paid for it. And who will have the backing of their patron in Washington.
All my life I have been an admirer of the United States and its people. But I am frightened of it now, and I am even more frightened of them.”

Rust Belt cities were left to decay while corporate executives and shareholders raked in profits. The long-term cost? A hollowed-out middle class and a workforce with fewer pathways to stability.
2. Union-Busting & Worker Exploitation
Instead of strengthening labor rights to protect American workers, the government allowed corporations to crush unions, stagnate wages, and strip benefits. The result? Increased income inequality and a workforce struggling with job insecurity, forcing millions to rely on debt just to survive.
3. Deregulation & Financialization
The U.S. government, driven by neoliberal ideology, deregulated industries, allowing Wall Street to dominate the economy. Instead of investing in production, companies focused on stock buybacks and speculative bubbles. The economy shifted from making things to shuffling money around, benefitting only the wealthy.

Rather than addressing the root causes of economic hardship, political leaders turned working-class frustration toward immigrants, creating a distraction while the real culprits—corporate greed, financial manipulation, and policy failures—remained untouched.
10. Climate Inaction & Resource Exploitation
Ignoring climate change and doubling down on fossil fuel dependence has left the U.S. vulnerable to environmental disasters and economic instability. Instead of investing in sustainable energy and green jobs, politicians propped up dying industries, delaying the inevitable transition.
Now They Want a Scapegoat
Instead of reckoning with these failures, the U.S. is looking for someone to blame—whether it’s China, Canada, or immigrants. But the reality is clear: America didn’t get here because of outsiders. It got here because of decades of self-sabotage fuelled by corporate greed, government corruption, and systemic neglect.
