When thinking about mixing and mastering, does anyone have any good resources (web links) that point to what the various types of EQs and compressors and limiters, etc. are, and in what situation it is best to use each type?
I'd like to get a better understanding, and there are so many out there.

But what about situations where someone is blocked/banned for no reason other than someone doesn’t like someone else? Let’s say, a difference in personality, nothing more. Is it fair that one person/instance can choose to block that person throughout the Fediverse?
What solution is in place for this situation?

Open source doesn't mean developers don't need funding—it just means they're using a different business model, like Ardour.
Consider donating to your favorite projects to help keep them alive. Here are some suggestions:
* Ardour
* Linux Studio Plugins
* Qtractor
* Zrythm
* Airwindows
* FalkTX's projects
* Surge Synth Team
* Brummer10 (Hermann)
* Giada
* LiquidSFZ

I just wanted to get an idea as to how many active users were using Mastodon. I'm not the greatest with math, so "reading" the number would be ideal. 😆

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the number of total "active" Mastodon users in the Fedeiverse?

I am currently conversing in a forum thread about Linux Audio, and a couple of developers are saying that it is not worth it to develop for Linux. They are complaining that Linux users are only a tiny fragment of the population, and it is a waste of development time.
Is there developer here in the Fediverse that can give me some positive quotes of their experiences in Linux Audio development that I can give to balance the argument a bit?

No official announcement yet, but Copy Fail (CVE-2026-31431) has already been fixed in the Fedora kernels: 6.19.12. According to Red Hat / Fedora kernel tracking, "all current Fedora branches are already at or beyond kernel 6.19.12.
TL;DR - If your Fedora system is fully updated, you are already protected against Copy Fail.

I don’t disagree at all—you’re right, it all depends on who’s steering.
Vibe coding is a non‑programmer iterating prompts to make AI write code; it may work, but often turns into slop.
An AI‑assisted developer knows the craft, the goal, how to ask, and how to verify—just faster.
I trust AI‑assisted developers like you.
The hard part is knowing what the person doing the steering knows or doesn't know, and what was done to vet the code. 🙂

2026-04-30 22:06:46 UTC

- reply

Yeah. I think we are going to see a lot more of these "Vibe Code" programs. The only real difference between "Vibe Coder" and "AI Assisted Developer" is the person doing the prompt engineering. If that person knows what they are doing, AI can be successful. Otherwise, one must rely on reviews from those using the programs. I'll still be watching and listening to everyone (including you) who tries them. The fact that you tried them and they worked is a good start.

I was interested at first, but on KVRAudio there’s a long thread about how these plugins were made. Some describe them as “Vibe Coded slop.” I was especially excited about the Ensoniq DP/4 recreation:
Temecula DSP DEEP/4 Plugin
Someone dared me to say that in the thread. After looking, the Vibe Code mob was out in force—torches and pitchforks included—so I backed off.
Maybe they’re good, maybe not; I don’t know. I just wanted you aware that some people are upset about these products.

RECOMMENDED PLUGINS FOR LINUX
I updated my list of audio plugins I use with Linux. There are now so many great apps available nowadays, that I weeded out many of worthy apps. I keep 1 or 2 of the best apps for any particular job (except for samplers -- I LOVE samplers) 😆
Over the next several posts, I am going to post my list of plugins I use, so that any who are starting out with Linux can get an idea as to what's available.

Disregard what I just said. It is erroneous. I went to find the URL that shows what I read, and realized that I misinterpreted what was said. Only until version 50, the new required dependency can be bypassed/not used, which is no solution at all. My mistake. Sorry.

I hope more people in the U.S.A. have more sense in the next election & we can get someone who will try to patch relationships between us & the world. When Trump (& his MAGA minions) speaks, it makes us all look bad—even though some of us never wanted or supported him from the beginning. I hope the world realizes that there are millions here who aren’t happy with him or his policies. I am against extremism from both the left & the right—& for now, the right is in control. 😪

I have a question for all of you Linux experts out there (Please Boost):
Is there a relationship between a tickless kernel (CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE or CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL in the kernel config), and the RTC interrupt frequency, or do they do two different things?
IOW, if your kernel is running tickless, is there any latency benefit from increasing the highest requested RTC interrupt frequency—or, is it no longer relevant?

It’s really scary right now. It feels surreal. As a single individual, I feel quite helpless. I can voice my dissent, and try to sway opinions, but legally, I can do little else. As a US citizen, the only decision-making I am able to do is through the ballot box. And even then, voting is collective decision making. Let’s just say that I am very unhappy with what I see going on in my country. 🙁

There are several open sampler formats. By open, I don't mean open source, but rather, that that the specs are open so that users can create tools to work with the formats. For example, Jürgen Moßgraber's priceless open source tool: ConvertWithMoss

I realized that my hands were slipping because they were dry. I wet my hands, & was able to get a grip on the first one. I carefully lifted, & waddled to the stairs & began, one by one to climb. I managed to reach the top, but when I removed one of my hands from the cabinet to turn the doorknob, the shift in weight pulled me off balance. I tried to regain control, but I was no match for gravity, & in a moment, I was jumping down the stairs with one hand pushing back on the cabinet. 3/

It’s been a cold albeit dry winter. I didn’t feel like moving them from the garage to the house until the weather warmed up. Today has been a nice, comparatively warm day. I decided to unpack them and move them today. I had moved them myself when I bought them, but for some unknown reason, they felt considerably more heavy. When I reached around one of the tall cabinets, my hands would slip when I tried to pick one up. #Movies #Lucky 2/

I love reading & watching movies. I’ve watched so many movies that I’ve gotten really picky with what I watch. I seldom watch anything that doesn’t have high critical ratings. I have gotten to the point where I need a nice place to store my best movies. I recently spent a lot of money on a heavy, matching hardwood set of 7 ft cabinets, with nice trays that slide out for storing & easily choosing a movie. I figure I could store 400 to 500 movies in both together.

I can certainly understand that! My phone is old, and I’ve been putting off updating. I’ve likely got something wrong with my phone that a reset to factory settings would fix.
Changing subject:
I only just a day ago discovered that I can get notified when friends post. Can you believe that I didn’t know that all this time? I was always so frustrated that I was missing friend’s posts, and longed for a more “Facebook-like” interface. I truly believe this solves my problem! 🙂

Cool! I can confirm that Ice Cubes --the Mastodon client app for iphones, sent me an audible notification. The default Mastodon app did not--even after I uninstalled/reinstalled it and checked all of the notification settings. The only thing I didn't do yet, was to reboot my phone.
Ice Cubes appears to be feature complete, so as long as that works, I think I'll be just fine. 😁

2025-02-04 16:21:40 UTC

OK. I'm doing further testing. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the default Mastodon app for iPhones. In addition, I've installed an app called "Ice Cubes", which looks to be a good app as well.
So, I think I'm ready for another test. Would anyone who is willing, please message me within the next 5 minutes. I want to see if I get notifications on my phone for Mastodon.
Thank you in advance!! 🙂

Reaper is every bit as popular as Bitwig and Ardour, and possibly more so in the Linux realm. I have doubts that metrics from just those two developers would give a clear enough picture as to the number of linux users. There are probably 20 DAWs available in the Linux world.
Along with the little oddball DAWs, there are big names, like Presonus, Bitwig, Harrison, and Cockos. Here is a list of just the most popular ones:
