My wish: Most of AI grifters will fall. The Open(tm) versions of AI tools will stay in the open.

Whoever in #Alpro made this improvement, please give them a raise 🤗
Instead of gluing the outer cardboard onto the inner plastic container, it now sits securely in place thanks to the little groove at the bottom. Le mua.

Just bumped onto an interesting case: What if protocol-relative-URL can not be resolved? The definition (from wiki) is:
> ... [the link] will use the protocol of the current page
But what if there is no page? Like, for example in case of an email?
My Apple Mail client can't (correctly?) potato with those links. The protocol is (correctly?) assumed to be `x-webdoc`.
Or? What am I interpreting wrong here?

- Now the problem is that the detail panel (on mobile bottom half of the screen, on desktop left side) eats big portion of the screen space and on this example even covers the selected arrow-highlighted by grey circle
- We absolutely don’t want to pan the map around automatically. To re-centre the dot once the panel opens. That was voted out on previous iteration
- What is good #UX treatment for this? How can we improve the #design so that the arrow selected around my location is likely visible?

#UX / #UxDesign question for #WindsMobi:
- On this map the blue dot in the center of the screen represents my location. This is how the app loads when I have location services allowed.
- I’m most likely to click on any of the arrows around my location (center of the screen).

You had exactly one job here: let customers tell vegetarian and vegan products apart, quickly and without a magnifying glass. Instead of fixing the existing accessibility gap, you doubled down and made it worse.
Do better.

I’ve mostly kept that lecture to myself - a niche gripe for people like me.
Not anymore. You’ve now rolled out a “new” vegetarian label that uses the same colour as the vegan one. Congratulations: two symbols that were already too similar are now, for practical purposes, visually identical at a glance.

2026-08-12 05:28:57 UTC

Dear V-Label, we need to talk
Your vegetarian and vegan symbols have long been a case study in bad accessibility design: same shape, same icon, almost identical text, with the only real distinction being a barely-legible “vegan” vs “vegetarian” caption and a difference in colour. As a web developer who thinks about accessibility for a living, I could give an hour-long lecture on why that’s already a problem for anyone with low vision, colour blindness, or who’s just skimming a shelf in a hurry

App “designers” should know two things about people like me:
- I’m constantly “busy” and “stressed”
- I do have auto-dismiss muscle memory
- I have tiny memory span
If your new-super-awesome-edgy-feature is advertised to me via an in-app pop up or even worse - modal, then there is exactly zero chance I will ever see that information. No matter how much you think you shoved it in my face, there will be no conscious registration of that feature ever existing.

Lazy web: Simple service where I can upload #GPX and said route will be displayed on map (reasonably good for outdoor - hiking - osm based) and with user’s current location.
Then I can share said GPX with some other person.
Website has to feel like native app. No tracking. No ads. No signups (for viewing). Just map & route & done.

If you've been wanting to move your activity history from Strava to FitPub but dreaded dealing with the export files, I made a small browser tool that does the heavy lifting.
Drop in your Strava export files, it decompresses the .fit.gz files, splits everything into correctly-sized ZIP batches, and hands them back for upload. No install, no server, runs entirely in your browser.

Ascent on the less touristy side of Harder. Top ridge with a lot of very confused people not understanding what is this running thing and why would anyone want to do it. And descend nearly missing Habkern and back through an unknown path on the North side of HarderGrat. That last bit needs to be altered though. It’s a wide gravel road with no views.

- The same experience applies to the other side, my core expertise: #WebDev. #AI tools gave me incredible performance and quality boost at every level that would by sheer physics limitation never be possible. And, frankly, brought a tiny bit of joy back to the #programming itself. I don’t see *any* value in working on any non business logic or something that does not add user value. Sadly >~80% of my time is always spent on things that “should have been solved already”. AI helps there heaps.

Timeline cleanse time: After 30+ years in #IT, out of which last ~10 were spent in “pointless reinvention of the wheel for 384th time” as a dev and “death by 275 trivial bugs on the most simple workflow” as a user I have to claim that I love what #AI tools brought to the table.

I don't endorse "vibe coding", but saying that we had tools like AI assistants (for coding) back in the days, because we had Visual Basic or Macromedia Flash is ... a bit off? Like those are not comparable on any level.
Did Visual Basic allow me to describe what I want and get me the output? Well on the same level as MS Paint did - it looked like something, but did not *do* anything if I did not know the internals of the languages.

I think I'm missing something here:
Me: I do actively waste scammers time so that they have less time on scamming people.
People: Yeah, but those scammers are often times victims themselves.
So ... what?
- Like you're either saying that by being in exploited situation gives you some moral high ground to exploit other people.
- Or you're saying that you're agreeing with the status quo of people being robbed of their life savings because ignoring it is easier than trying to fix.
