Another three hours to go but I'm pretty optimistic about Netanyahu being ousted.
Turnout is massive — above 67% as of an hour ago.
Bolsonaro defeated last week, Netanyahu defeated this week, and hopefully Trump's sycophants defeated next week. Meanwhile Reform and the Greens in retreat here in the UK as our populist moment passes and things get back to normal.
But it's also budget week, and France is having a moment ahead of her own elections soon.

It's been so strange watching climate action decline these last few years. The primary cause celebre for a decade or more has been relegated to barely getting a mention, even by the Greens. COP protests used to be the highlight of the year. Not anymore.
Meanwhile Miliband and Net Zero are much maligned in our media coverage despite the decarbonisation effort being a hot topic during the election and it going extremely well.
C'est la vie.

Every now and then I decide to pick up an old artist who I never got into and try to appreciate them properly.
Radiohead was my first big one back during covid — and boy do I regret not getting into them back in the 90s.
Then I did Bob Dylan (again, shameful I did it so late) and the Rolling Stones and a few others.
My latest one is Aerosmith. Only ever knew some of their cheesy hits, but man, listening properly, how frigging great were they!?

2026-03-08 08:44:14 UTC

This is going to be so strange. This basically requires OS providers to use an online account similar to Microsoft's approach and to provide details of each account to third parties.
That's simply not going to work with open source operating systems — or lots of other software providers.
So far projects are reacting by banning use by Californians and Coloradons.

If it seems strange that Matt Goodwin, a man who repeatedly says he never departed the left and merely stuck to his traditional working class views while everyone else went woke, would join Reform then it really shouldn't.
Not only is his entire persona one huge grift, he's the most vacuous soul I've ever met and one of the stupidest people I've ever seen on a debate stage.

This messaging is going to do massive generational harm even if spread just for the three more years of this presidency — but if that Senate committee can hold the line on HHS's worst excesses maybe the damage can be limited.

What in the goddamn fuck is wrong with Democrats!?
Tonight I specifically mean those ten in the Senate. The tide had turned, the party finally had momentum, and the perception of the party being weak and feckless was breaking. They could've achieved a huge political victory *and* won extended healthcare for Americans!
And instead threw it away for a doomed vote that would never be allowed in the House and would be doomed there anyway if it were.

This is neat. ICE now spends more on military equipment than most national militaries, beating Italy, Poland, Canada, Australia, and is only just behind Israel.
All this while anonymously dragging people off the street and disappearing people, for which they apparently need guided missiles.

That's the end of The #Guardian for me then.
This practice of requiring a subscription to reject cookies is highly likely to be unlawful but hasn't been tested in court yet. The Independent went first and now the Graun's followed suit — after requiring an account to use their app after a certain number of views and a ruined CX with constant interstitial banners.
I'm sure most people just mash accept on cookie notices and so there'll be no consequence for them here, but this is dire.

The show is a sublime exploration of a 13-year old boy's view of masculinity social pressure while he goes through being arrested for allegedly murdering a female classmate.
The third episode with Erin Doherty going through a psychological examination with him is outstanding — TV perfection, as that review says.

One neat thing I got to do this week was teach someone about the brilliant Arthur Samuel, who coined the phrase 'machine learning' in 1959.
We had a long conversation about the history of #AI concepts and how most folks probably wouldn't consider his early approaches to #ML as being *real* ML, and how there's probably an expressable function to describe how old an AI/ML concept has to be before it just becomes normal computing to folks.

It's... fascinating. I guess we'll see when it's released if it's generally good at creative fiction writing like Altman claims or whether this is a one-off example based on a particularly applicable prompt.
I'm interested to see if the 'tone' is specific to this story — because current LLMs are starkly identifiable by their tone.

This #Deepseek launch is so funny.

US companies are going nuts over it, and while the claims deserve some scepticism, they are in line with existing trends in the #LLM space — toward smaller models, use of synthetic data, and expanded use of reinforcement learning instead of fine tuning.

A while ago I degoogled and went around hundreds of old accounts changing my email address and closing accounts I didn't want anymore. More than a few don't allow email address changes, and some don't let you close your account via the web or app.

I hope more publications, public entities, businesses, people, and assorted other sentient beings do the same.
My company removed itself from X after Musk's comments on the riots in the summer. There was virtual unanimity from all the directors that it was the right thing to do, though I thought that was much too late too.

It's not over yet, but it's perhaps worth reflecting that Democrats and patriotic Republicans came together to oppose a literal fascist and still it looks like the American public probably gave the fascist their popular vote.
I'm having trouble processing this information right now.

Newsnight featuring a journalistic photographer who did well through the riots but who refuses outright to share his pictures with the police and security services.
I'm a photographer who has had his protest photographs published, and I'm also a massive security and privacy nerd — though I always tell everyone I'm always on the side of the law rather than any particular side — but I do not share his concern.

@npub12rk…uvf3 I think I'm going to. I've enjoyed this stupid ponytail, but it's so incredibly inconvenient. I think I'd like the exact opposite for a while.

I've been considering shaving my stupid hair off, but there's a bald man on my current call and I'm having second thoughts.
