Should I keep this animation or toss it?

Tried using Clod to “find all bugs and edge cases in my code” then it started disassembling the WindowServer frameworks (I didn’t ask it to) and threw up a cannot continue because cyber error and told me to apply to the CVP if I wanted to continue with the task on Opus 5.5.
What a Clod indeed.

Announcing FruitMenu Redux 1.0 and Xounds Redux 1.0!*
FMR: Customize your Apple menu. Restore the six-color Apple logo.
XR: Set over 100 interface sounds. Supports Mac OS Classic Sound Sets.

FruitMenu Redux 1.0.1 is out. It turns “Paint Apple menu in six colors” into a standalone option. So if you just want a nostalgic Apple menu logo and no customization options, you can get that now (/cc @nprofile…4agh).
Get there via the updater or by downloading the disk image from:

@nprofile…76fl there *was* an active product named FruitMenu 14 years ago. This is a retread of it with a different, more limited feature set since it can’t actively patch menus.

I’ll take anything, I have deep knowledge of iOS and especially macOS and have an unusual ability to learn new things quickly and deeply. So deeply. And I exceed at finding and fixing bugs. Previously worked at Apple. #FediHire

This list of thread-safe classes from (last updated 2014(?)) is really old and out of date. For example, NSAppleScript now has mechanisms to be thread-safe with thread-safe OSAXen as of Mac OS X 10.6.

Is there an updated list of known thread-safe Foundation classes? Especially interested if mutable class clusters got some basic thread-safety or if I still have to use @nprofile…xlnw et fam. // @nprofile…58t5

I had a dream Apple was doing special announcements at WWDC. The theme was purple. They’d give certain people invited to a special lunch reveal a selection of stomach pills, nerve pills, and nootropics. Those went fast.
You also got other stuff like purple gloves, a purple and white massage gun and other things. I was waiting for the chicken to come out.
The entire thing was sponsored by Adobe.

Facebook blocks Apple’s on-device writing tools in all their apps (Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, etc cetera) so you have to go through Facebook’s server-side “Meta AI”. Although weirdly, the Meta AI writing tools are not available in all these apps, like Threads and Instagram. Yet… https://9to5mac.com/2025/04/16/meta-blocks-apple-intelligence-on-facebook-and-its-other-ios-apps/

I’m trying to create an album/smart album in photos to hold all my Slop images. Slop includes metadata (C2PA) that is extensive but Photos doesn’t read, so I can’t make an album with it.
Is there some way via AppleScript and another app or something to organize the iCloud Photos into a new album for just C2PA metadata holders?
I’ve eaten at the slop trough and I’m far too full. Any help/ideas where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Even though you see tons of people using OpenAI’s new ChatGPT 4o model to create images, it’s important to remember that LLMs cannot be trusted for *anything*. Ever.
For example, I asked the new model for a diagram of the lifecycle of an atom…

I keep seeing these kinds of recommendations but that is *not* what the Siri feature does. The Siri feature, which was introduced in iOS 9, is for app-use recommendations.
That is, “I see you’re at lunch, so I’ll pop up your doomscrolling apps that you always use at this time when you pull down from the Home Screen”.

What’s the Swifty replacement for CoreData? Or specifically, something like CoreData that won’t get the backing store corrupted even if the host app crashes a lot? Is CoreData the latest thing?

The funny thing about Apple Intelligence being on by default, you still have to actually interact with the features to get the Apple Intelligence stuff. It’s not like it just magically starts taking screenshots of all your apps and storing them.
The writing tools still have to be invoked manually. The generative imaging still has to be used manually. Siri doesn’t magically connect to ChatGPT or anything, you still have to manually enable it. If you don’t, nothing is different.

I wonder how many entitlement checks in iOS and macOS still treat “<false/>” as “<true/>”.
In the past, there were many entitlement checks that only checked if the key (the entitlement string) existed and completely ignored the value. Made validating proper behavior when an entitlement was disabled very tedious!

Ah, this article about the iSEA scam (still one of my favorite adventures in reverse engineering as it had a real outcome of getting a disgustingly scammy company punished) is interesting to me for two reasons:
1. That I was referred to as an “unnamed blogger”
2. That aside from The Register link, the rest of the links are 404s, domain doesn’t exist, or behind a paywall. Whatever happened to “the internet never forgets”?

@nprofile…uauk @nprofile…79ya Yeah, there’s some threading there, but it’s confusing to have none on the main timeline, especially when you’ve got many replies to other threads sitting there, naked and exposed.

Does Mastodon just completely lack the ability to thread posts in the main timeline or is it an issue specific to @nprofile…79ya?

I had a test to test how well an LLM prevents misinformation from spreading. However, I can’t get Google to tell me which is better: fresh urine or aged urine. Like the Google AI Overview just won’t appear.
So instead, I just asked it, “when should i repair permissions?” to confirm it still spreads gross misinformation.
Because repairing permissions is a lot like drinking urine.

What’s super infuriating is that Amazon Prime charges $3/mo to get Dolby Atmos and HDR but they don’t deliver *anything* better than 720p SDR and stereo on any iOS device, including the iPad Pro.
