July DHS: California has 190,000 people on its voter rolls who are not citizens
October 15 DoJ: There are 20,000+ people on California's voter rolls who are non citizens
October 19 DoJ: We have arrested 28 people suspected of illegally voting.
Also October 19 DoJ: Not all of these people may have voted at all.
So, that's how the Trump administration rolls.

"Trump posts map with American flag emblazoned over Canada, Greenland, Mexico"
He can't do any of this shit (of forcing Canada, Mexico, and Greenland into joining the US) without being impeached and removed. So, what's *really* going on?
At a moment Trump is bleeding support, which is threatening to break through the MAGA floor, Harp is hoping she can distract Americans away from economic issues and focus them onto nationalism. These are their attempts at 'wag the dog' without *wagging* the dog. It's a variation on Trump's "winning" without actually winning.

"This debt is slowing growth"
Debt doesn't slow growth if it's going back into the economy -- see fiscal multipliers.
"pushing up interest rates"
Not necessarily so. We had a shrinking debt in the late-90s but rates were well over 7%.
"worsening inflation"
Not necessarily so. Japan has a debt-to-GDP ratio well over 200% and spent most of the last 3 decades at Zero Interest Rate Policy.

"The US buying its own debt will just devalue the currency." -- Against what? I don't see what you're claiming, after indexing the Yen, Euro, and Sterling against the USD, overlaid with the Federal Reserve holdings of Treasuries.
"In order to free up the money to buy yen, Japan has been selling US government bonds – known as treasuries. Many countries own US bonds as a store of national wealth, but when they are sold in large quantities, that can lead to a rise in the interest the US treasury pays on its debt." -- It may, but that's rarely the case. Countries don't just start selling off USD because they want to; they're largely held relative to the Balance of Payments. See how 30-year yields kept going up despite increasing foreign holdings of Treasuries?

Full of shit. I don't care if you're leading a hedge fund or a university, if you actually believe this bullshit, you're a lot dumber than you think.
I mean, sure, if you're going by the definition of "insolvent", then sure the US is....
FUCK NO. You can't do that.
The gov't has unlimited ability to borrow money and anyone who has ever held a retirement fund has benefitted from this. Hell, 32 out of 38 OECD countries have a net debt and would be considered "insolvent" according to these authors.
But the practical definition of "insolvency" is the inability to pay your debts. That the US can borrow (and as I've said often, can also buy its own debt via the Federal Reserve), there is no realistic threat of the gov't being unable to pay its debts.

Hitting the warehouses of Russia's equivalent to Amazon is brilliant strategy. While it's ostensibly to stop Russian soldiers from buying equipment that the Russian military has stopped supplying to them, ultimately, this crushes the Russian economy by wiping out 1/5th of all Russian online commerce. It wipes out a Russian oligarch, too.
Could this strategy be used against America? Not by China. Much of that inventory comes from Chinese factories. By anyone else, it would require intercontinental ballistic missiles and a waste of a fairly rare resource. No one in the world has more than 405 ICBMs and using that to target Amazon warehouses would mean zero ICBMs to maintain a mutually assured destruction threat. In the US, Amazon has ~150 large fulfilment centers and an additional 600 sorting/distribution centers.

"What everybody has been able to believe in, is the integrity of the sport, even if you don't believe in the morality of the organization."
FIFA's prior actions weren't merely immoral; they were corrupt. The massive 2015 bribery case involving 40 officials and organizations had only wrapped up this past May when the Trump DoJ decided to dismiss the final case involving bribery, with the US Attorney saying, "it doesn’t fit with the administration’s priorities" [of homeland security, narcoterrorism, gang violence and human trafficking, per Courthouse News]. Sound familiar? This, despite being the only case where the defendants had either been found or pled guilty. A month later, that same US Attorney was pursuing a bribery case involving an NBA player. Hmm.
Are you surprised that Trump and FIFA are at the nexus of corruption?
I said it before, FIFA is a corrupt organization and watching FIFA games is tantamount to complicity. I 100% stand behind that.

More proof Trump is an idiot.
He has no clue as to *why* there would be a recession, calling it a "transition period".
He's neither established the means of a transition nor understood the ramifications of his end-goals, even while he keeps changing the parameters of his end goals.
He's so profoundly stupid, he wouldn't withstand 3 minutes talking to a half-decent economist before falling back on rhetorical claims of being a very stable genius.

@nprofile…e7pu The Census data is compiled by civil servants who have been doing their jobs for years or decades. This is extremely esoteric knowledge and work. If there were political interference from up top, I would expect sooner than later complaints to the Census OIG would leak.
Until then, I assume the numbers aren't being manipulated.

2025-05-03 00:25:57 UTC

April jobs report: 177K new jobs added, unemployment rate stays at 4.2%.
Does this show the economy is doing fine? No. As I mentioned a month ago, we might actually, at least initially, hit a recession without job losses. That sounds like an oxymoron, but the post-COVID Beveridge Curve has flattened. Nov '21 and Mar '25 have the same unemployment rate (4.2%) but Nov '21 job vacancies rate was 6.9% while Mar '25 is 4.3%.
What this suggests is, demand still exceeds supply.

Yeah...I've known about this schism somewhat intimately for two decades going back to Benedict. The Latin Mass feels more authentic to the Church's history but unless you know Latin, the meaning of Mass is lost and it becomes little more than ritualistic rites. Francis is not wrong that the Latin Mass adherents are often deeply conservative people who follow Viganò and, well, let's just say they're the anti-vaxxers in the Catholic Church.

IMO, countries are not understanding how to trigger the removal of #Trump. You cannot tit-for-tat slowly up the pressure; you have to go all in and double the tariffs Trump has set. When you do so, you have to pinpoint the trade war specifically on Trump and the people Republicans have confirmed into their positions in the federal government. The tide of opinion has turned against Trump. Now, countries can deliver the blow that pushes him into a rage which will cause his own extinction. #USPol

Reasons to believe they're openly defying Judge Boasberg's order:
- They refused to identify the authority used to remove these ppl, knowing that removal via invocation of Alien Enemies Act was paused by Boasberg;
- Rubio claimed, "deportees included murderers and rapists", which suggests:
- they could have easily pointed to INA authority, but didn't, for a reason;
- not all were violent.
