Supposing I'm not lazy. Supposing I purchase an ASN, buy my own hardware and connect a business class ISP to my house, and implement good firewall rules. I can then tell every foreign country to fuck right off, and I'm hosting loli that can be accessed from their country whether they like it or not?

We need an anti ddos service for websites whose servers are only located physically within the US. And they should be willing to tell all other countries to fuck off with their laws.

Lol. Lmao even. Not a violation of US law. Other countries DO NOT MATTER. You are not entitled to our websites not hosting content that is illegal in your country.

Casinos are able to benefit from the law of large numbers thanks to playing many games against many people, all day. Individual blackjack players are not able to engage in sustained play as easily, particularly given that variations in betting will often result in you getting kicked out early.
It's an idea that seems to work on paper, but in practice is very weak at turning profits.

2026-05-09 20:05:46 UTC

- reply

Card counting in blackjack is still gambling. It's just that it gives you a sight advantage against the house. But you can still very easily lose money doing it. And you have to play for a while to start seeing decent returns.
Also, poker does have some element of skill that can make it profitable if you're in the higher skill levels (but for most people you will lose money. Even popular poker content creators will tell their audiences that they lose a lot of money).

Fair enough. From a legal perspective, it's very clear that the construct doesn't need to exist. From a religious and spiritual perspective... I have seen a handful of beliefs surrounding it. In my view, it perhaps should remain a purely religious ceremony with no legal connotations, similar to baptism.

Interesting. I'll keep all of this in mind. I am considering that with more states making stupid age verification laws, I may need to start hosting my own content from outside of those states to counterbalance certain cowardly sites that start banning half the US plus half of Europe from accessing it.

2026-05-03 07:45:51 UTC

Suppose I wanted to self-host a booru of sorts where anyone could upload whatever (legal) porn they wanted. How much storage capacity would it be best to start out with?
And also, if I were to self-host, how much harder would it be for someone to complain to an ISP to get a site taken down compared to a hosting provider? Like if someone called Comcast saying "that dude's running a loli server out of his living room, cut his Internet service", are they likely to do shit about it?

It is legal to make statements condoning crime, under Brandenberg v Ohio
I think more people should be engaging in those "Scientology speedrun" raids. This should also be done with other shady organizations for the lulz.

**Parents rights according to conservatives:**
- Removing a child's foreskin without their consent
- Refusing to provide vaccinations that would prevent the child from getting sick
- "Spare the rod, spoil the child"
**Not the right of parents, apparently:**
- "Sure son, you can watch porn in your room after you finish your homework."

The judgement call is technically for the jury (of which only one vote is needed for a mistrial) and not the judge. And also you've got two levels of appellate courts above you to fall back on, with a precedent set by Brandenberg that the entire point of the first amendment is to support extremist speech.

2026-05-01 19:07:54 UTC

People have an absolute inalienable right to use their speech in any form (i.e. art, forum posts, screaming loudly from a sidewalk) to promote ideas that are objectively harmful to society.
Antis like to argue that lolicon promotes pedophilia, and therefore should be banned because they see pedophilia as harmful. While many on Pedi would like to say that the reasoning is flawed because pedophilia isn't harmful, and many lolicons will argue it's flawed because people can tell the difference between fictional characters and real children, I will present a third argument. Just as I have a legal right to stand on any street corner in America holding a cardboard sign seeing that the government should execute all Muslims in the country (a terrible proposition to be clear), I equally have a right to stand on that same street corner holding a sign saying that says that 7 year olds are sexy and we should legalize 69ing them. No one has the authority to tell me I can't do that, because it's political speech and all political speech is free speech.
Part of political speech also includes the right to persuade people to my point. If the anti says "lolicon will give people erections thinking about children", then it is my right to turn around and say "Yes. And I have a right to use that position to change their mind on my political position". If I take any image in my loli folder and append the text "legalize sex with 7 year olds", suddenly I am not merely protected against obscenity laws on the basis of them being art, but additionally based on them being political. The prurient nature of the work is a key supporting argument to the political arrangement.
/rant
TL;DR Adding the text "lower the age of consent" to any loli work makes it political and therefore incapable of being obscene. This is better than "all characters 18+"

If it doesn't boot, it's not an operating system. Yes, some kernels are loaded directly by EFI, where others have a bootloader called by BIOS or something else. Perhaps I'm showing my age a bit because I've toyed around with code that does the latter. We can resolve the discrepancy by saying "a bootable kernel" instead of "a kernel and a bootloader".
The point is that you need a kernel that can be loaded when a device is first powered on. And you need a means to interact with that kernel (a shell). The "can boot" part is a requirement to prevent user software like a web browser or language runtime environment from being considered an operating system unto itself. It's not enough that software run on top of you if you've got an operating system running below you.

2026-04-27 18:38:29 UTC

I mean, Kubuntu is just Ubuntu with KDE instead of Gnome, and yet it gets a different name. It could be reasonable to say that a different graphical shell makes it a different operating system, even if they retain compatibility.

2026-04-27 18:34:32 UTC

- reply

The user space software is designed to be used on top of the kernel. I suppose my definition should have specified that there's not necessarily a many to many relationship. Obviously Libre Office and Firefox don't need to be interoperable.
The point is that the bootloader, kernel, and shell are the bare minimum components to be called an operating system, though we define the whole package of programs included with them as an operating system.

2026-04-27 17:53:44 UTC

- reply

An operating system is any collection of software designed to be used together that includes a kernel, bootloader, and shell. Note that the shell can be a graphical shell and/or a TUI.

Full auto weapons aren't exactly easy to get. They have to be in the machine gun registry, which hasn't been opened since 1986. So for starters, you can only obtain a fully automatic weapon that was manufactured and registered before then. Then there's the fact that a number of states just ban full auto anyways. Legal federally, illegal locally. What remains after that is a slightly more complicated background check than the usual form 4473 used for most firearms... although it's mostly just a matter of getting fingerprinted.
Realistically, you're only owning a full auto if you're rich... or if you're willing to break the law, since converting a semi auto is trivial.

Saw an argument for why McDonalds and all the other fast food restaurants went from "unique, colorful building designs with real character" to "generic grey boxes that look like every other fast food restaurant". The idea being that if the business goes under, they can more easily sell the building... to every other fucking fast food joint that might want to pop in.
The problem with doing this is that it shows a complete lack of fucking commitment. It's not just that the buildings are soulless, the fact that *this reason* is why they're doing it means they are effectively saying "the second your community gives us even one quarterly loss, we are fucking ditching your ass. We don't give a shit about you." Which just makes you want to smack the CEOs harder.

Risk, sofia, is the cost of a bad thing happening, multiplied by the probability of the bad thing happening. The cost of a false positive is high but not infinite. The cost of a death by failing to capture a serial killer is also high.
The world is full of imperfect information, and the job of an intellectual is to weigh probabilities against each other based on evidence. If you have an eyewitness that someone committed a crime, you have evidence that updates the probability that they did it. It's not perfect evidence, but we can now start doing actuarial math. We can investigate the witness and ask "what's the probability that this person would lie?" and "what's the probability that this person could be mistaken in their observations?"
For what it's worth, because there is still a possibility of a false positive, I am unwilling to support things like a death penalty. And I do think trials are needed to be able to investigate witnesses, so that if someone may have reasonable doubt of the witness' credibility, they may choose to reject them. But we can't throw away the idea of witness testimony entirely. Especially when we consider that other forms of evidence are now equally showing flaws. Consider that security cameras may have the same problems as first person witnesses in a world with slightly more advanced AI-generated videos. DNA evidence may also have flaws, and fingerprints are notoriously bad because they're not as unique as people think.
Everything is imperfect information. There are no 0 or 1 probabilities.

- reply

If the murder is isolated, then perhaps you may consider any number of false negatives to be relatively tolerable. After all, it is very important that we not punish the innocent.
Consider, however, the addition that the murder is part of a string of related murders. That the problem being solved is that of a serial killer. And the only way you can prevent future murders is to rely on eyewitness testimony. I won't say witnesses are the best form of evidence -- there are flaws to them -- but worthless? You can do a risk assessment comparing the likelihood of them telling the truth vs the cost of a false negative and the cost of a false positive.

2026-02-01 22:49:42 UTC

If one were to witness a murder, I would assume their opinions on the subject of who committed the murder to be quite valuable. Especially in lieu of other evidence.

Many of those here on Pedi may not believe in God. Many may reject the messages delivered to them by charlatans pretending to do God's will. All can be forgiven. You cannot help what you do not know. And when your heart tells you that something is wrong, even before you mind understands why it is wrong, that is the holy spirit leaving you hints that this is a path you should not follow. Those who claim to follow Christ, but do not follow his teachings of love, forgiveness, and gentleness do not have the holy spirit with them. In rejecting them, this does not mean you have to reject God.
It may come that within your lifetime, God will be with us in the flesh once more. If you should meet him, humble yourself. None of us are perfect, but those who seek forgiveness for their imperfections will surely receive it. But woe is to those who, having rejected his teachings, say to the returned savior, "Lord, Lord, have we not cast out demons in your name?" Only to be told, "I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice evil."

A short survey for all MAPs on Pedi:
1. Is there at least one minor you have seen on Pedi who you would be interested in dating?
2. If your answer to 1 is yes, would you be interested in dating long distance?
3. If your answer to 1 is yes, would you be interested in meeting them in person?
4. If your answer to 1 is no, is it because none meet your requirements, or because you are not interested in dating a minor?
Asking these because I've recently been noting a few AAMs bemoaning the lack of attention from MAPs. Feel free to qualify your answers.
