Trump proves once again that Putin is his best mate and that the rest of the world can go to hell. What a pathetic apology of a human being Trump is. There is no question that he is a dangerous psychopath and a global traitor. #trump #us #putin #russia #ukraine #traitor https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/oct/09/trump-putin-russian-diesel-ukraine

One thing I detest about Winston Peters and NZ First is their constant immigrant bashing. My partner has worked as a health professional for many years in NZ and paid taxes and contributed to the country in many ways. She has an EU passport but has had permanent residency in NZfor over 30 years. She chose to keep her EU passport because that is where she came from. It is not possible to have both a German EU passport and a NZ one. Peters and his NZF mates are trying to do a Trump and score a few redneck votes by pursuing such negative and destructive anti-immigrant policies. Like the AFD in Germany, NZF is acting like a Nazi party. They don't deserve anyone's support. #NZPol https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/politics_election-2026/1273306/new-zealand-first-pledges-to-restrict-superannuation-to-citizens-from-2029

@nprofile…r769 I have voted for NZ First in the past but no more. Immigrant and foreigner bashing is a destructive pathway that does nothing but encourage division and hatred. Their are too many regimes around the world bashing immigrants. It's something that Aotearoa does not need. Without our immigrant population our country would not function and thrive.

@nprofile…r769 Like the Republicans in the US and Reform in the UK. NZ First is anti-immigrants, especially non-white. Think health, transport, hospitality, agriculture... The list goes on.

This is the way we should be managing our forests. Let our indigenous forest recover or be re-established and then harvest 2 trees of high value timber per hectare per year. That way the land is protected, there are no slash problems, tangata whenua are involved, and the forest becomes sustainable long term. Such an approach needs a long term vision and a different all-embracing value proposition. It can be done. Clear felling of "weed" pines is the lowest value option in the big picture view.

@nprofile…wj33 @nprofile…ycjt @nprofile…xpw3 I agree totally with your views. Two important considerations. The US is a nation facing a decline in wealth and power. Less than 4% of the world's population live in the US. The current NZ coalition government seems hell bent on sticking with "the good old days ( which never were that good) rather than focusing on future resilience.

So many companies use AI interfaces between them and their customers. I logged into Singapore Airlines website today to update a booking. When I entered the Reservation Number and my name the AI interface told me that they couldn't help with my enquiry because I had already flown. The booking is for August 10 this year. I panicked at this point as I didn't know what to do next. After a few moments I typed exactly the same details in and it gave me access. It's this total dependence on AI at the business/ customer interface that disturbs me. It's almost impossible to get help if an error like this happens. I have flown many times with Singapore AIrlines and love their service. But I really dislike their (and other businesses) electronic interface, especially when it fails to function. #ai #online

@nprofile…r769 Growth cannot go on forever. The concept that growth can go forever is like a Ponzi scheme. Eventually everything collapses when it can no longer be sustained. What we need to focus on is sustainable "non-growth" which better utilises existing resources and skills in a long term future horizon. The Ponzi scheme approach to economic growth ( mortgaging the future) is unsustainable and so not a recipe for a thriving population in future years.

@nprofile…xpw3 A diversity of languages makes life much more interesting. Some of the interesting ones I have come across while traveling include Plattdeutsch in north Germany, pidgeon English in the Solomon Islands, Gaelic in several small villages in Ireland, Grindelwalder Deutsch and Ratoromanisch in Switzerland, Zorbish around the German-Czech border, Patois in Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago, Maori in Aotearoa and Rahdener Deutsch in Germany. There are many more but these are interesting examples. All add richness to the human presence. Sadly we seem to be dumbing down and reducing diversity around the world.

There are more alternatives emerging all the time. Like we don't buy Anchor Milk because it has a poor taste and seems to be over processed. Instead we buy Lewis Road Creamery milk which is from a small company, has taste and also two competitive organic options. Innovation usually starts small and disappears with big.
