Happy #pride month from the stoplight parrotfish. They're born both male and female but often a female will become male if there aren't enough males around. And some of those males become...SUPERMALE and grow large while maintaining a reproducing harem. Three sexes for these (fabulously colored) transexual fish. I love seeing them on the reef ...they also munch coral with their beaks and produce much of the sand on the world's beaches.

Welp, the dealership where I bought my car last year apparently screwed up the EV tax credit paperwork and the IRS is rejecting my tax return. So many dealerships fucked it up that the IRS has now made a new rule to try to fix it.

After months of trying to get an electrician out to troubleshoot my rooftop PV system, I have one scheduled for Monday. I'll give it 50-50 odds that he'll show up. Tradespeople on Kauai have more work than they can handle so it comes down to connections & luck. All of the solar installation companies I contacted just want to sell me a new system.
Anyway, it's so weird to see the east array producing almost nothing in the morning. (It's 9:30 am here.)

My buddy who has been a #coffee roaster in D.C. since 2009 is getting out of the business. Beans are suddenly 20-25% more expensive...one reason he cites is that USAID had a program that successfully switched farmers in Central & South America from coca to coffee. Got my raspberry pi 5 set up as a Plex server and ditched Spotify. It's been fun rediscovering my own music catalog and I've been adding some live shows from Internet archive and other sources. One issue is that Plex doesn't handle metadata for rare stuff very well but that's pretty minor.

APHIS may be the most important federal office most people have never heard of. It's the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service inside USDA and they prevent invasive pests from destroying US agriculture.
A friend worked there for a long time and I thought the work she did was really vital.

As a scuba diver and reef aficionado, I've long (20+ years) named my devices after fish or other sea life. My big TV is kohala, which is Hawaiian for whale etc. I may be running out of names because my latest little computer is now named Squirrelfish. They're kind of like the sparrows of the reef. So common I don't even really see them any more. But they are good at side eye. Not as good as a flounder, but...
