I think the main answer is because they tend to be poor dirtbags with disabilities and lead otherwise very stressful lives.
For the better off (which I think are rare), I think it's just a continuation of the selfish culture of taking care of yourself first. They rationalize purchasing their video games, concerts and whatever as "self-care".
Third is probably they don't trust anyone, and for good reason like @nprofile…00lf's comment.

@nprofile…hr6z I watch a lot of social skills content on how to actually handle that situation. I think the best way to do it is to hand it lightly with humor. I would usually make jokes depending on the context and relationship like "Still lost in the woods?" if they recently went hiking, "Did you you drown? 😉" if they were by water. "Thinking really hard, I see." if they're someone I can tease more. "So, did you die? You need CPR?" if I already let them know I'm expecting a reply. It works well.

A real girl who builds a relationship with you and draws you into an investment scam. That doesn't sound different than usual but the way it's done with SC is a totally different experience, with video, personal audio messages, actually responding intelligently to what you say, etc.
Like she's straight up a real life con artists from the movies but on SC.

We don't live in a post-truth world. We live in a post-truth culture. There's a difference. The real world doesn't give a shit what you believe, and that's exactly why inaccurate beliefs can cause so much pain. The good news is that a post-truth culture is in no way sustainable for that very reason. The bad news is that it's death and the filling of its niche with something better could be incredibly painful if we just let things run their natural course on their own.

I think a lot of the problem with Trump is actually not him but the way he's presented in the liberal press. They are abusive, knowingly and intentionally causing panic for attempted political gains instead of offering a viable alternative (e.g. Bernie or AOC as leadership). Trump does terrible things but in general he's just being nationalistic. He says nonsense but as adults the liberal press needs to take it for what it is, not stoke the fires of panic. They're helping him get what he wants.

@nprofile…4m93 Yes, I think so. Most people aren't that smart and those that are don't have infinite energy to figure every little thing out.
