“If God is real then He should stop all this evil, 'cause He's all-powerful right? What is evil though man? It's anything that's against God. It's anything morally bad or wrong. It's murder, rape, stealing, lying, cheating. But if we want God to stop evil, do we want Him to stop it all or just a little bit of it? If He stops us from doing evil things, what about lying, or what about our evil thoughts? I mean, where do you stop, the murder level, the lying level, or the thinking level? If we want Him to stop evil, we gotta be consistent, we can't just pick and choose. That means you and I would be eliminated right? Because we think evil stuff. If that's true, we should be eliminated!”

But isn’t the whole point that nothing unclean shall enter heaven and we are only clean through the washing of Jesus’ blood? So God looks at us and sees Jesus. That is thought clearly, so why do we need additional cleaning (found nowhere in the Bible).
I just don’t get where this stuff comes from.

2026-10-26 22:59:14 UTC

Been reading more catholic apologetics and arguments like this about purgatory continue to astound me:
"Since the Bible assures us that nothing unclean shall enter heaven (see Rev 21:27; cf. Heb 12:14), this implies that souls who die in a state of imperfect friendship with God must undergo some kind of final purification prior to their entry into eternal life."
The leaps that are made in regard to the pope, Mary, purgatory, etc. are incredible.

I read this article today and it is beyond bad.
Especially the section:
"The positive evidence for Mary’s Immaculate Conception is based on three key Scriptural considerations."
In addition, the strongest arguments FOR this Maryology is often that it isn't ruled out by Scripture:
"As this very brief overview shows, none of the four major Marian dogmas are beyond the bounds of what the Bible teaches."
Then:
"Even if the sincere Protestant isn’t yet ready to embrace the Catholic understanding of Church authority, he can still accept that the Catholic view of Our Lady never contradicts—and in many ways is supported by—a close reading of Sacred Scripture."
It absolutely contradicts on some points (no sinless human being other than Jesus) and is in no way supported by a close reading. In fact, the opposite is true. No one would come to those conclusions from simply reading the Word.
"the Protestant must believe that for more than a thousand years leading up to the Reformation, the Holy Spirit allowed every Christian on the planet to believe in all manner of doctrines that Protestants today would regard as unbiblical."
The real takeaway is, look how far from the truth we can get when we DON'T read the Scriptures for ourselves. When a Church had the authority to tell people what God says instead of them being able to read it for themselves, some of the most despicable things were done and believed.
I listen to and respect some catholic theologians and enjoy listening to debates on the topic.
But this article is really bad and easily dismissed when one knows the Bible.

I did quote you directly. See screenshot.
And no, the list of what books belong in the Bible does not come from the magisterium.
The Old Testament was already established before the magisterium. How were those books selected?
We recognize scripture with the help of the Holy Spirt and yes we also rely on the traditions established in scripture.
And yes we come to different conclusions, but your conclusions do not come for the Word. No one would come to establish a pope or believe these things about Mary from the Bible alone.
Lastly, look what happened in Catholicism. The history is ugly. They wielded their “sole authority” to do horrible wrongs and to enslave people to the church and wield power over them. And what brought that down? People actually reading for themselves.
You keep calling me a Protestant and saying that’s only been around 500 years.
I’m not. I’m just a Bible believing follower of Christ.
And I do believe many Catholics are fellow believers but there are obvious errors in the teachings of the church which destroys their whole argument.
If the Bible had errors, I would have to throw out the whole thing.

I’ll say, the Catholic stance is more defensible than some would like to admit but it is still wrong.
The biggest issue for Catholicism is that they have introduced obviously false doctrine (for me especially about Mary) and therefore how can they claim to have this “sole” authority to interpret?
And the Bible does tell us as individuals to asses the teaching of anyone against what the Bible teaches so that alone denies that they have the “sole authority.” Especially considering the failings of the Catholic church in history and the obviously wrong teachings that we ourselves can see are not biblical.

Good thing is you can verify the translations yourself.
Bible translation isn’t a mystery it’s actually very cool and interesting topic.
I really enjoyed this book. It actually shows that many translations that claim to be literal (NASB) aren’t as literally as they think.
In the end, it’s very cool we know almost exactly what was written thousands of years ago and that you can read dozens of English translations and they are incredibly similar and they are not translated from one another but rather from the original.

The issue is did the “translate” or did the “interpret.”
A good example for GNT vs ESV is Genesis 6:2 (see screenshot).
Notice how 3 translations say “sons of God” and only GNT says “some of the heavenly beings.”
We don’t KNOW what sons of God means, it is debatable, and there are a couple of options. But GNT takes the liberty to assume it means heavenly beings.
As long as you are aware of that, and read GNT with that in mind, I’m sure it’s ok. But it takes more liberties with interpretation than other classics like ESV or NASB (which are harder to read as a result).

No tax breaks? Everyone I know who has solar has gotten tax breaks or reduced cost from the government (mostly Germans). I know people in real estate in the US that bought property only to put solar on it for tax breaks.
All in cost of only $3500 is wild. What does it produce in excess energy or if the grid goes down how long can it power your house?
Like I said, willing to be wrong but my perspective is that solar as a broad use for mankind is way worse than alternatives. However, maybe for the sovereign individual who uses it properly it could be the ultimate way to decentralize since you can’t do so with oil, gas, or nuclear as an individual.

I have always been opposed to solar energy. Tell me while I’m wrong:
For all of civilization we have searched for more dense sources of energy (wood then coal then oil). The next frontier is nuclear.
Instead, we have gone backwards and are using incredible inefficient source of energy. The sun is astronomically less dense than oil. You can live in the sun light, imagine living in oil.
So the question becomes, why? I believe the largest reason is the environmentalists. We can get into all of that another time.
The next reason I’m opposed is that solar power is only cost effective because of subsidization from the governments (again because of the environmental propaganda).
Tell me what I’m missing.
