I’ll say, the Catholic stance is more defensible than some would like to admit but it is still wrong.

The biggest issue for Catholicism is that they have introduced obviously false doctrine (for me especially about Mary) and therefore how can they claim to have this “sole” authority to interpret?

And the Bible does tell us as individuals to asses the teaching of anyone against what the Bible teaches so that alone denies that they have the “sole authority.” Especially considering the failings of the Catholic church in history and the obviously wrong teachings that we ourselves can see are not biblical.
