I want to try this again with more reach.
I want to help my employer #fedihire you, and get you #fedihired.
Do you want to teach ICT/CS/IT/etc in Japan?
Because I am currently stepping in to take these courses but I am the head of IT, no longer an active teacher.
The school uses the UK curriculum, does help with residency for those outside of Japan, has a union.
Teaching credentials preferred, but how they factor in can be variable.
Take my work... please!

2025-10-29 22:29:49 UTC

My workplace is hiring teachers.
As this is a UK curriculum school, education degrees/coursework/teaching licences/etc are required, but exact mix can be variable because countries or states are variable.
Positions available:
ICT/Computer Science
Language/Literature/History (Humanities)
and
On-call substitutes
The workplace has a union.
Reach out to me if you want the skinny.

Actually, I have experienced unclear consensus. It's when you don't think enough people have expressed their views so you don't know if everyone really agrees or if people are too intimidated to voice opposition. Not rare in Japan in my experience.

When I was in, one of the first things they taught us was "just following orders" is not a valid defense.
If they obey, they are culpable and should be held to account, even if they're 20 now and 80 then. There have been SS guards who have learned that lesson.
Quite literally one of the textbooks I was handed upon my appointment to midshipman. I was 19.

Maybe so, but the underlying thing is: in capitalism, people with money can by the things, and people without money cannot.
Price and distribution controls are perhaps needed, but the failure to properly intervene in markets is hardly the fault of tourists. Quite the opposite: it is Japan's liberal market that has encouraged unsustainable levels of tourism.

Even if it were true... I mean... so? This is a liberal market economy society. People with yen can buy yen denominated stuff. Like rice. What exactly are these people asking for? A command economy based on nationality or national origin? Like... have they thought through the ramifications, or the opposition by restaurants making fat stacks of sennies from tourist rice consumption?

We have a lot of background and interests in common and this line about "the borderlands are my home" hits me both in the literal, physical sense (Las Cruces/El Paso/Juarez, as one example) and a metaphorical sense (gender variant, intersex, an immigrant to Japan who, after 17 year can no more excise Japaneseness than she can New Mexicanness).
In all ways, the borderlands are my home.

For someone who never thought I'd own my own home, this is way beyond my expectations of what I'd end up with.
Obviously, the home value is no primary motivator, nor does it work the same way in Japan, but I do marvel that this would be a 500K house in Texas and 1M house in California, easy.

2025-05-17 12:25:49 UTC

Some progress was made.
Replaced the missing piece of baseboard upstairs.
Put the first coat of dark teak stain on one of the primary bedroom shoji doors as a test. Will go darker, but I think only two coats are necessary for all the wood in the room.
Started painting the kitchen/dining baseboards.
Applied the plastic alternative to the living room shoji door.
