@nprofile…mex9 my God, reading something like "a car infected by car-specific Android malware" makes my soul tremble. I have serious issues accepting these new mobile phones on wheels, that's the reason I keep my old trusty smoky ~20 years diesel car with an AM/FM radio, that takes my body from point A to point B. Maybe I'm dumb or something, but I really dislike what's happening to cars.

@nprofile…5p5u that's my personal experience with it. I cannot let it be unsupervised, yet.

Yeah. I have mixed feelings about AI, but I agree it's at least a very useful tool that's here to stay, and it will be good for humanity in the long run. I may revert to solo human brain programming mainly for personal gratification.

I bought an electric scooter for my son. Yesterday I went for a night ride, just to try it. That thing is a beast, I'm a heavy man, but the binary is enough to accelerate me to 40 Km/h in an instant. At 40 Km/h that damn thing is pretty unstable, I felt that it could start wobbling non-stop and crash me to the ground. Also being standing up all the time, made my legs a little sore.
On the other hand it's pleasant, cruising high speed with all the wind in our face and body.
In the end I liked it.
The first time I tried riding an electric scooter, was in Spain in Valencia, but it was on one of those Xiaomi scooters limited to 25 Km/h, this one is a completely different beast.

I just found out, that we can only register our own account in Slashdot, by requesting it explicitly by email, and presenting a justification of why we would want that.
This is pretty unusual. I guess they did this in order to fight spam and bot accounts.
After dwelling about it for a few minutes, I totally understand this approach. It makes sense if you want to preserve the quality of the discussions.
Of course, given these new AI times, I guess that even this can be automated, for both sides, the user and the system handling these requests, so it's a short term fix.
I wouldn't be surprised if other platforms follow the same approach, when you want to guarantee a given level of human generated content quality.

Do you know what's nerve-wracking? Applying a matte hydrogel screen protector to a mobile phone screen. It was my first, and I made a few mistakes while applying it. But damn this was really nerve-wracking!
Everything due to 2 micro scratches that I made while holding my phone in my pocket that were making me mad!
The good news, the method was a bit cumbersome but the end result is promising, the two scratches are almost invisible. 🙏

To be honest, we already have similar file systems like the P2P - ipfs + encyption. The novelty of mine, was the fortified hidden part.

2026-06-22 10:29:01 UTC

Several years ago I had a crazy idea. Basically, it was to implement a highly resilient hidden file system called a "shadow file system". I never implemented it, but the idea keeps popping into my head. The problem is that the only people who would really benefit from it are crooks, and it could be used to hide criminal data (child pornography, etc.).

@nprofile…ydzz i have been using LLMs in cybersecurity activities (including in engagements), against authorized targets, and I can testify how easy it is to overcome guardrails. Even when triggered, a sufficiently knowledgeable attacker can use them by decomposing his malicious activity into a set of apparently benign small routines.

Humans are inherently religious. Given this, the religion you pick is extremely important. Some are more pro-social than others. The "Love your neighbour" is my favourite one, and the one I picked.

2026-06-08 07:03:53 UTC

The older I get, the more I realise the importance of religion. Let me explain. Almost every person I see has a religion. Seriously. The issue is what religion. Even the so-called secular, they follow their own beliefs and rigid view on things. They irrationally engage in fights about their own views and how right they think they are, constantly trying to force the world, to be the way they want to, the way they think is the right way, being religious without even realising it.

@nprofile…mex9 with Gemini, in one of the engagements I did, I tried to use it to decompile a bunch of DLLs, and it did reverse them, then i used it for searching of a path traversal writing files. It started from the bottom up, going from invocations to the lower level write methods, to the API. Pretty impressive stuff.

@nprofile…mex9 chatGPT I use it a lot as a psychologist, to vent out my own personal issues :), but I agree with you, given enough interactions and a pattern of asking back what we want to do emerges and it's annoying.

2026-06-06 10:38:25 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…mex9 I don't have experience with claude, since I have been focusing only on Gemini and Antigravity. My grips with their agent is the tendency to drift away, with me always pushing back to the main goals. But the result is positive, it does help me a lot, on programming tasks and also with pentesting. I had one issue where I needed to discover a memory leak on a python file, and it even made a graphical allocation graph, and to my surprise, it was correct. What I cannot do, is let it drift.

@nprofile…mex9 lately I tried to use AI to help me during engagement and to write me a pentest report, it failed miserably. Sure it helps, but we can't, at least for now, to let it be completely autonomous. What makes me mad, is the tendency to drift from the main goals, so much that I needed to interrupt it several times due to the tendency of diverging and violating my set of rules.

Ethically attacking, in the context of a vulnerability assessment, while observing a real malicious attack on the infrastructure you are supposed to protect is weird.
Good vs Evil.
Cops vs Thieves (both can kill and they do kill).
White vs Black.
You are just like them, with the differences:
1) intent.
2) permissions.
3) the output.
Both are trying to survive, both are usually paid or expecting a payment.

The first annoying issue is that Antigravity doesn't handle mcp servers with more than 100 tools, so I changed the hexstrike-ai code, in place, using the agent. :/

2026-05-26 05:48:56 UTC

Using AI for pentesting and I'm feeling that now I have a secretary. Probably this "secretary" will become smarter than me pretty fast! Complete takeover in less than an hour. Setting this thing up, with hexstrike + mcp + kali + Antigravity, wasn't trivial, also it feels like arming a robot, that does not always follow your command, and without a kill switch(!), so keeping your eyes on hexstrike-ai terminal is a must (!).

2026-04-13 11:37:04 UTC

I have some old projects (and when I say old, I really mean old) that are currently in maintenance/support mode and still being used by our customers.
The issue I’m facing with these legacy projects is that I still haven’t had the courage to use AI, so I keep reverting to old-school programming when working on them.
To be honest, most of the changes I can implement faster using my own knowledge than by trying to come up with a careful prompt. But this is a sign of my lurking lack of trust on AI.

2026-04-10 23:37:53 UTC

I have been "vibe coding" a lot lately. The first thing I'm realizing is that we feel a kind of rush, seeing how fast we just add new features, but yes, we do lose part of the emotional ownership that real code written by our flawed brains provides. The other thing is that it's very easy to lose encapsulation. I don't know why, but this happens. I suspect that it's due to the agent not sending a global specification of the software we are developing, just tiny bits of it in the provided context.

Lately I have been messing around with some React/JS code. Personally I think React is terrible, along with a badly designed JS, in the wrong hands can create true maintenance nightmares. What I wasn't expecting is that AI generated React/JS could be equally bad.
All of this made me think, how LLMs captures real code, and it generates it again during "inferences".
Given enough time and retrain iterations with new code, basically a given model tends to maximum entropy. Essentially garbage.

I have just learned that modern Linux distros use this schema for network devices:
Device type
en → Ethernet
wl → Wireless LAN
ww → Wireless WAN / mobile broadband
Bus location (PCI/slot info)
enp3s0 → Ethernet on PCI bus 3, slot 0
ens33 → Ethernet on slot 33
Onboard vs hotplug
eno1 → Ethernet onboard device 1
enx<MAC> → USB or other hotplug devices, using part of MAC
In Alpine though, they sill use the old eth* naming scheme.

@nprofile…5k2y I don't agree Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme. It's a currency, a very unstable one, but if backed by countries, this can really stabilise it, backing it indirectly by gold and other tangible assets. It has other issues though...more technical ones. Of course it's currently very speculative, but the same happens with stocks and other financial instruments traded in a market. A Ponzi Scheme is mathematically always doomed to burst, since it depends on an exponential growth to keep paying, but Bitcoin only collapses, if everyone sells them or the system breaks as a whole (it's technically a possibility!).

@nprofile…kt4t Crazy stuff. Something tells me that's coming from some ignorant middle management moderation teams, that wrongly classifies malicious posts, this or some crazy hallucination AI stuff. Unfortunately, Facebook as a giant enterprise, will react slowly to correct this - maybe someone capable of reaching Mark Zuckerberg could help ...

@nprofile…gr2u Ouch... I didn't RTA, but how can this be even possible?! In the old days, we were supposed to test the software before releasing it.

Golden Axe II @ Megadrive... never played this one at that time. I like it - just gave a taste of it to myself and to my surprise here's a game that I can still play 😅

I had an extremely Catholic education, even though I don't have faith and I'm very rational and analytical when I can set aside my emotions (something I struggle with a lot). I don't believe in God, but I wish I did. Seriously, I want to believe in God so much, but I don't. Still, I feel peace inside when I go to church. My motto has become, 'Do no evil, and don't let others do evil things to me.' What I want to say is: find peace within yourself. It could be a walk in the park, going to church, or anything that puts you in a peaceful place. I know I have the power to be extremely destructive and evil — unfortunately, I can — but I rationally choose not to. The calmer I feel inside, the more powerful I feel. The power to become better for myself and others, without being naive. I know I'm growing every day, and I actively work on myself to enjoy every day I'm alive. Don't let yourself be consumed by the drama the media creates for you. Leave the toxicity outside yourself and embrace a new peaceful reality — your reality. From my side I still have a long way to go, but step by step, I will get there.

@nprofile…93wd Regarding bullshit, I'm old enough to have witnessed this kind of thing many times during my career.
