No pues… wao Pedro…

Unfortunately or fortunately I am a normal guy, I just don't buy anything based on advertising. 😅

2024-12-26 05:50:14 UTC

- reply

I understand your point and yes, you are right about that, the advertisement did have an effect because it caused me to look for or be interested in the product, but my point is that I am not one of those who buys something because of what the advertisement is trying to sell you.
To be more illustrative, it is like seeing an advertisement for a new Shure microphone. They can say that it is the best, that it has the best capsule, the best construction, or whatever. That does not have an effect on me, what did have an effect on me (and this is where you are right), is that I might be interested in knowing more about the microphone, but I am not going to buy it no matter how good the advertisement is. And that applies to everything I use, be it Shure, Rode or Apple.
Therefore, random or dynamic advertising about a product or service in a podcast will have no effect on me because that podcast is probably not even in my podcatcher. And the more advertising I see for a product that I am not even interested in, the more I am turned off.

Be my guest. Here are the statistics of the money that I suppose you think I earn.
By the way, those are links that I put a long time ago to see if I earned money with them, but at no time do I promote them, nor do I promote any product in my content, nor do I put advertising on it, nor do I tell people to click on the links.
In fact, now that you mention it, I have to check my almost abandoned YouTube channel to see what settings I have for advertising on the videos.
But it's curious that the reproach comes from someone who just said that he supports creators making money with their creation. I'm sorry that you took my opinion so personally...
I just wish that in 2025 your earnings with your links and content IF PROMOTED, will double.

Well, I can't speak for others, I speak for myself and I'm not one of those who buys based on what I see in advertising.
Maybe I can find a product that appears in an advertisement and catches my attention, but not because of the advertising itself, and in those cases, I look for the product, read and learn about it from the experience of others or my own, not because its creator or company wants to sell it to me.
And I don't know who you're referring to with that: "Odd to hear that argument from someone who earns money from promoting products and posting referral links to them".
I guess you're NOT talking about me, because that's not my case, I don't promote, nor do I earn money with any promotion or affiliate link.
I understand that the advertising issue affects you because in your case, I think that you do make money doing that, but you shouldn't take my opinion personally, I'm simply not the type of person who doesn't click on your sponsored links, but there are thousands of others who do.

2024-12-26 04:36:40 UTC

- reply

I also have nothing against creators making money off their "creation."
And no doubt, in the United States it may make sense for some, but I, for example, who make and listen to podcasts in Spanish, don't earn anything by promoting something that isn't sold outside the US, or listening to something that isn't sold in the US.
Even the dynamic advertising that I've managed to listen to based on geolocation is from companies that don't interest me.
In short, I'm not one of those people who buys through advertising, and I'm one of those who chooses not to listen to podcasts with advertising, just as I'm one of those who chooses not to listen to exclusive podcasts from closed platforms that don't offer a public RSS.
Do you have a paid podcast with RSS? Fine... I can use whatever podcatcher I want. Am I forced to use a specific application? No thanks.

2024-12-26 04:26:30 UTC

- reply

What I mean is that if you put the ads at the beginning and at the end, and I can skip them with my podcatcher, there is no problem. But if you put it in the middle, and also cut off my attention... terrible.
I actually think that advertising in podcasting doesn't make much sense, because there is no guarantee that someone will download a podcast and listen to it.

2024-12-26 04:16:25 UTC

- reply

That's why I don't listen to podcasts with dynamic ads. And podcasts that put ads in the middle of the episode, whether dynamic or not, are removed from my subscription list.

I think you can afford that exclusivity when you're a very large company and your app is already on most people's devices. Otherwise, it wouldn't work to try to get people to only consume content on a specific app.
And by the way, even the big companies have seen that bringing podcasts that have been popular and have been open, have not given them the results they expected.
That's why I've never installed any podcast platform app myself. If the podcast isn't public, or at least has an RSS that I can put into my Podcatcher, it doesn't exist for me.
