Well, I can't speak for others, I speak for myself and I'm not one of those who buys based on what I see in advertising.
Maybe I can find a product that appears in an advertisement and catches my attention, but not because of the advertising itself, and in those cases, I look for the product, read and learn about it from the experience of others or my own, not because its creator or company wants to sell it to me.
And I don't know who you're referring to with that: "Odd to hear that argument from someone who earns money from promoting products and posting referral links to them".
I guess you're NOT talking about me, because that's not my case, I don't promote, nor do I earn money with any promotion or affiliate link.
I understand that the advertising issue affects you because in your case, I think that you do make money doing that, but you shouldn't take my opinion personally, I'm simply not the type of person who doesn't click on your sponsored links, but there are thousands of others who do.
