I'm still to busy to be online at the moment, but I came on to post about the Anderson Cooper "The Whole Story" that's airing right now, about the insurgency within the Dem Party, which started right out of the gate interviewing a gent who said what I've been saying for years. He said that he wasn't going to vote Republican but that doesn't mean that he was going to vote Democrat because the Party is off-putting. Why? Because they have a sense of entitlement to every vote that the GOP doesn't get.
Yeah--Dems never believed that they had to work for the votes they get, and to them, every 3rd party candidate that DOES earn votes is, to them, a "spoiler" because the Dems were entitled to the votes they didn't earn.
EXACTLY!!
Y'all on here already know that I've repeatedly said that the GOP has to get this bad before the Dems even begin to look good, and now that they've got a Socialist insurgency on their hands, they're scratching their heads even harder without getting Clue One as to what's gone wrong.

Yes indeed, that does put things into proper perspective. From this Yankee's perspective, though, I think it's apt to apply to the "ruling party" and "the party opposite" what I've said about Democrats and Republicans over here (and I have in the past used the term "RepubliTories")--Republicans have to get this bad before Democrats start to look good. I do see a parallel with the UK's Conservative Party needing to get head-of-lettuce bad before Labour started to look good. Labour therefore overvalued itself after the win last time. Surprise surprise surprise.

Edited to add that I blew up a different set of your pics with better results, and what threw me is that these are 77 series chips rather than 74 series, but I'm guessing that's because it's special MILspec for those; the 7714 is clearly equivalent to 7414, and none of those are post-LS technology.
Yep--TTL.

If the US media is doing anything, it's downplaying such events, and Trump has telegraphed that he covets the Insurrection Act as much as he covets a Nobel Peace Prize. The younger protesting set has no direct memory of the Lunch Counter Protests that launched the Civil Rights actions of the 50s and 60s, but the advice they're getting from their elders was indeed successfully implemented back then--Never strike back, but firmly hold your ground no matter what brickbats are thrown your way. One bit of payback coming from you results in an excuse for them.
This was true back then and it remains true today.

I disagree with DeVos' conflation of security and politics, which is what he does when he drags "the coalition of the willing" into it. Freedom involves the ability to build coalitions including security coalitions and in that sense the coalitions are united in the sense you're trying to forward. Different peoples see different issues in different ways and insofar as all members of a union do contribute to a defense common to all of them, but some members are going to see additional matters as more serious than their far-flung brethren are likely to, but those come IN ADDITION to the common defense.
Nobody should be forced to see every situation identically; not all members are going to be equally affected by the issues that the coalitions deem vital, and you can make that distinction in a democratic republic. Demanding that there be uniformity regard for all issues is authoritarianism.

This wrong-headed assessment demands uniform marching in lock-step and the only places you can find that is in authoritarian dictatorships where people are free to form coalitions. This professor would be happier living in Russia or China.

Either it acts as a consolidated political unit in security affairs - working in consort on defence & military affairs - or it will see its members working together in various combinations - varying 'collations of the willing' on different issues - that will see the EU increasingly side-lined as geopolitical forces require more strident responses.
An existential threat to the EU?

European nations face the challenge of a new world order as a matter of necessity, not of choice. Either they succeed in channelling a response through the EU, or countries’ individual responses will gradually sideline the bloc. The emergence of ad hoc “coalition[s] of the willing” is a benign harbinger of what could become an existential threat.

I can ball-park the era that was pre-General Motors, and nearly all the automakers that are no more, such as Tucker. Mexico was involved in U.S. auto production as early as the late 1950s going into the 1960s, and U.S. automakers had to join a conglomerate like General Motors or go extinct. Automakers like Studebaker went across the border too late in the game in the early/mid-60s and went out of business anyway.

I should add that the Studebaker factory in Mexico didn't die--Volkswagon bought it to produce the VW Beetle there until relatively recently.

Framing the situation as religious indignation further illustrates that rational reasoning wasn't involved in the voters' choice. A rational reasonable person would have recognized right off that you'd get genocide either way, so the choice was relegated to a matter of degree. A rational reasonable person would have made the choice of the lesser degree; what we actually got was the choice of the greater degree, so rational reasoning had absolutely nothing to do with any of it.

You're both right, actually. Religious indignation across the board was part and parcel of Biden's fall, and that of Harris, but it wasn't confined to just the charge of Palestine genocide. It was evangelical indignation that a woman was the choice against a man for office, and it was WASP indignation that she was both a woman and non-white....and I should add that devout fundamentalist Muslims believe that women should be excluded from high office.
This was an election that united the bigots.

Ya, flammable resin trees like pines, firs, cedars and eucalyptus are legit issues. Trees with tap roots can reach the water table even in drought situations; shallow-rooted understory trees are to be avoided.

Cutting trees is a very bad thing to do because when they're supplied enough moisture, that moisture is carried throughout the tree and they'll better perform as a fire barrier when they're properly vascular. The problem with trees feeding fires is that they're dried out by drought first. Everybody who has a fireplace or works with campfires KNOWS that wet wood doesn't burn.

IMHO that would be selling Biden short, based on the Trump-proofing moves he's already made that managed to reach public notice, so I'm noticing that he's being quiet not out of defeat but out of the commission of quiet mischief. Dark Brandon is afoot.

This looks like a good time to bring up toilet-guru, the thing Bob the Traveler cites often, as they've made a study of waste handling over the ages, including near-prehistoric times. A lot of good methodology can be had there.

Using the proper canning equipment is necessary, of course, and if you've mastered hot water bath method of canning vegetables, you'd do well to acquire a canning pressure cooker for the purpose of preserving meats as well. And there's pickling to explore, as well as drying. I happen to find dried strawberry chips rather tasty.
