https://tube.mathe.social/c/vl_algebra/videos
https://thomas-kahle.de/algebra.html

RE: https://bots.robots.rodeo/@scream/117458150442210203

It’s slightly more complicated than this. There was also a lot of reinforcement learning on logical arguments. Because they can check the validity of an argument produced by an LLM with the proof checker lean, they could systematically train to make the LLM produce more valid arguments (with higher likelihood).
And coding agents also play a big role in this. They also trained on the tool use and sequences of commands a mathematician would type into the computer when doing research.
The progress in 2026 is mindblowing.

Anyway I have not heard of any reports of people who say they worked on one of these problems and that approach they followed was pushed through now…?

Do we still want to discuss whether the 722 minus 3 papers are based on non-public sources, such as chats that mathematicians had with Astra, for example?
Somehow, it doesn’t seem relevant anymore, or does it?

RE: https://social.heise.de/@heiseonline/117405218459252829
Was soll “menschliches Verständnis in den Mittelpunkt stellen” denn bedeuten?

Very interesting question!
So assume there is a press release by openAI, here are our 100 papers.
Mathematicians respond by saying: “🤔” (in a more elaborate way).
Economist title: OpenAI released 100 solutions - mathematicians seemingly stopped caring.
I don’t see that as positive for OpenAI. In fact, they seem to exactly want to avoid such a situation because what happened after Navier-Stokes was not good PR for them.

2026-09-24 06:13:45 UTC

I agree with what you write, that it would be better if those 100 proofs would come out digested, but I just see no chance for that, in particular not by somehow working with openai.
I'm also not saying we should ignore those proofs! We should just ignore openai and focus on the proofs!
My view is a bit like this: As soon as a model exists that can produce these proofs, these proofs exist. All of them. Just exposing them, sending a prompt, spending a million dollars only somehow prints them. But in my mind they are already here among us.
It's a bit more complicated than that because the model is not released but in a short time a model with these capabilities will be released. That time will be shorter than digestion time anyway.
And once that model exists openly, we will be back in the situation we have after the release of astra: random strangers on the web sending us solutions by e-mail, asking us to vet them, everybody being able to produce theoremoids, etc.
It is super sad, but I think it is better to accept reality and embrace open science. Put all the available information out there and then let's work with that, start digesting etc. Let's do that in the open and let's not overstate openai's role in this.
The academic credit system has already broken down. We should accept the reality and build something new, as a community, between humans. BigTech should have no role in how we structure our community.

Why do you think mathematicians should engage with OpenAI at all after what happened / is still happening?
Why do “we” mathematicians need to give them input?
Feels like talking with the schoolyard bully about “our problems and how to resolve them”.
I think we also have the option to ignore them. Let them dump their 100 theoremoids on the Arxiv or their homepage and then we’ll see.
This is how science works. Anybody can post anything and then peer review and so on…

So many thoughts in my head.
One is "don't feed the trolls". We should probably not reply at all. But of course "we" is an international community of so many people that there will not be one voice.
Also, a colleague pointed out that the statement can be read as the bully showing us the tools with which we they will kill us and let us pick our mode of death.
Also, maybe they are exaggerating a lot because they are on the edge of bankruptcy. Excuse my french, but they have us by the balls at the moment because the dependency that we as the community have on these models grows every day.
They know exactly that they have killed the entire reputation system and most importantly the trust among mathematicians. The divisions are already starting. I hear so many people saying "that other area of math is so over, only MY area is impacted less". Like "pure" vs. "applied" both say that about each other.
Divide et impera is working, people.
I think we should just slow down ourselves, if they don't want to. Ignore them for a month. They put out a solution to a millenium problem. Sure, upload to the arXiv, we'll take a year or five to review. Please stay tuned...

So #OpenAI wants to be friends again?
https://openai.com/index/advisory-group-on-mathematics-and-ai/
It's hard to understand what this means. Everything is so slick and a bit meaningless. Maybe they used AI to write their statement?
"Importantly, the group will not be responsible for advising us on how to pace our internal progress on mathematics." 🤔
Sounds to me like: "OK, we will solve your problems in any case, if you don't want to hear the solutions we will just keep quiet."
So they produced 100 new theoremoids spending a couple millions of dollars and now they are asking us if we want to hear them?
And then what "we" do is to set up a Google Form in which mathematicians can say how they think the 100 new results should be disseminated ?

„The model worked autonomously without human input“
„was given only the problem statement“
entspricht nicht der Wahrheit.

Ja, da sagst du natürlich was... Was ich hier poste ist eine Karikatur von dem, was wirklich passiert. Nach diesem Thread/Paper
https://mathe.social/@tomkalei/117202962339468419

Sollte also schreiben:

Today at Freie Universität BerLean there was a meeting to discuss what the definition of a polytope should be.
Partial consensus was reached!
This is of course about the long missing formalisation of polytopes in #lean4 and #mathlib, which is one of the points of this workshop: https://mathconf.eu/pil-fub-2026/
(which is also part of our [@dfg_public](https://wisskomm.social/@dfg_public ) priority programme Combinatorial Synergies: https://www.combinatorial-synergies.de/)
For me, putting all of mathematics into one git repository still seems like an impossible feat, but getting to a solid layer of graduate textbook material from many areas of mathematics seems doable now with coding agents. Lots of activity in this direction at the workshop!
