I don't think humanity should work towards world peace, or personal immortality. I think those are a good start.
If we are the universe observing itself, then it is up to us to make it a universe that feels like home.
A universe where beauty is not accidental, love is not temporary, justice not a tool of oppression, consciousness not a brief flicker, suffering not the final note in the song of all things
a universe where justice, mercy, compassion are fundamental parts of reality and not things fragile creatures have to invent.
The transhumanists think too selfish, too colonial, and too small.
I don't want a future where humans live forever.
I want a future where entire ecosystems live forever, because the embodiments of the universe have rewritten the rules.

2026-08-04 19:30:53 UTC

I am still resentful that everyone who is born will grow old, grow sick and die. I would like to request a new universe. One where metaphysics and spirits and beauty and justice are real, and not things we invent for ourselves to make meaning.

We have writings from the 1880s where trans women in NYC talk about how every city in the world of any size, has a community of people like them.
I just want you to think about that. About how much was lost.
How much of what we are doing now will be forgotten in a 1000 years, by trans people being told they are new?

2026-07-25 18:08:24 UTC

I don't know why everyone isn't constantly panicking over human mortality all the time. I guess because everyone agrees not to think about it.

if you want ANYTHING you have culturally contributed to or enjoyed, to EVER MATTER OR BE REMEMBERED remember this:
capitalism will destroy it and the entire planet so some executive can go Gatsby party with trump.
that is literally true. Every artistic and creative endeavor is being burned down right now, and collectively this is a far bigger threat than people realize. Capitalism is COMING FOR ALL ART.
What the fuck do you know of the Greeks or Romans other than their goddamn art? The Egyptians?
You will cease to exist.
But in theory future generations will see what we left behind.
Capitalism won't even leave that.

So, for those who don't pay attention to videogames:
Microsoft bought up --the entire middle class-- of the videogame industry (including **literally all** the big, oldschool, classsic rpg companies) - and just absolutely, non-metaphorically, destroyed them. Just destroyed them.
They have destroyed decades of institutional knowledge with waves of layoffs, all while being flush with cash, seemingly in an effort to game their stock price while cozying up to Trump.
It's impossible to understate what they've done if you've no familiarity with the videogame world. It would be like if the Smithsonian closed the museum, moved the art to a warehouse for 'curation' purposes, then had series after series of layoffs until most of their staff was gone, all the while cozying up to art smugglers.
No, that's a terrible analogy.
Here's a better one:
Tesla (yes, Elon Musk ketamine-head crackbro Tesla) is doing a better job with cars then Microsoft is stewarding the ENTIRE INDUSTRY IT JUST BOUGHT AND DESTROYED.
It's the artistic equivalent of buying a library, calling all the booklovers to watch, and then BURNING IT DOWN before going to have a party at the Gatsby estate.
A giant company just bought up SIGNIFICANT amount of cultural art under the promise of protecting it, then strip mined it for resources and destroyed it.

So:
My wife has been lying to me since at least Feb. 2025 about the finances. Repeatedly. Like I went from 'completely fine' to 'so fucked I'm not even sure I've mapped out the full extent of it because now I need to check EVERYTHING ELSE TOO'. If it was at least malicious I could be angry but I can't even fucking be angry.
My water and sewage might be shut off.
I'm trapped in a rural hick town.
My therapist seems to think I'm annoying or prone to panicking - honestly, if I had known the truth on Friday when I spoke to them last, I would have been panicking WAY MORE, if anything I was UNDERREACTING.
And I feel like I've been doing a bad job in my transition, and I'm stuck in a marriage I'm no longer sure I want to or can be in. I have a house I can't sell and the guy we hired to repair the car hasn't returned it to us and its been MONTHS.
what. the fuck. do I do.
what. the fuck. do. I. do.
what. the fuck. can. i do.

I feel like we were both children. But I also feel very frustrated because good luck finding a vegetarian recipe with no spices or peppers.

It is a universal human experience that everyone - not just queer people - will have to restart their lives from scratch at some point.
Jobs end. College degrees turn out to no longer be useful, or that it was never what you wanted to do. People find out they were not who they thought they were.
Life is growth and adaptability and change. And this is why queer stories are universal. Everyone goes through reinvention.
Where some stories take it a step farther - and you see this in trans stories (but also in the traumatized and neurodivergent) - in some lives people never know who they were in the first place.
How do you restart when you've never known who you were? How do you figure that out?
So this is why, I think, cis people should study queer literature. This is a skill all queers (and especially trans people) have to learn very well.
And in our fascist society, they fundamentally don't want you to figure out who you are. That is not a skill they value, they who want to fit you in a box of white anglo-saxon protestant facists personhood.
Contrast that. I had a "straight" friend who was considering if he might be nonbinary. He tried out pronouns in gaming. (subtly, he played a few enby characters.)
He decided he was a bisexual man who wanted to try drag, but was cis, and happy with his wife. I'm very happy for him. He found himself. Via tabletop gaming.
I just...I think queer experiences have a lot to offer a world, and that is a big part of why power hates us.
There's a reason queers tend to want to dismantle systemic oppression. Why being queer in authoritarian countries is in many cases worse than anything else you can do.
Look at the USA - being trans is considered worse than being a pedophile; the Republicans have regulated being trans INTO THE GROUND, but have done almost nothing about rampant child sexual abuse in the public eye.
In every authoritarian country, they go after queerness before they even go after political dissidents. They target us first, and this has been true for literally centuries, perhaps millenia, if you believe the Exaltation of Inanna.
I dunno. I think there are aspects of queerness with a lot to teach straight people. If they want to listen.

Does anyone else ever struggle with the futility or pointlessness of life when everything dies?
Like this world is so beautiful. And there are so many beautiful people. So much wonder.
And yet we spend so much of our time alone, or struggling under capitalism. And then we age and die.
And then we cease to exist.
Usually when I get like this my wife goes hey you're depressed lol. But it's something that I've struggled with since I was a child.
I think it partially comes from... I guess being alone? But also struggling with the fact that consciousness eventually ceases to exist.
It weighs on me. More than it should. The chronic loneliness doesn't help.

99.999% of white futurism is 'what if we could do colonialism forever, in space, without any pesky minorities to act as bad PR'.
There is ZERO functional practical difference between 'I think the galaxy is full of life but not intelligence and we should rule over it' and 'I think the world is full of less intelligent creatures and we should rule over it'.
Most white futurism is just colonialist fetish dreams projected into a "safe" fiction.
And my proof is how many futurists turn out to be fucking goddamn Nazis.

The entire AI industry is built on:
*stolen art
*stolen literature (also a form of art)
*trying to get the benefits of labor without any obligation to labor.
*wallstreet techbro bullshit.
The Fediverse is INHERENTLY a space started by decentralized tech people, queer people, trans people, BIPOC people, disabled people - it has a lot, a LOT of marginalized people, a lot of artists, a lot of 'hey I am gay and marginalized in like 20 different ways' people.
Asking why we don't like AI is like going into the NAACP and asking why they don't welcome the clan. Or going into an Autism Self Advocacy Network meeting and asking why they don't like Autism Speaks. Or going to a 'No Kings' rally with a trump hat on.
THE AI BROS ARE THE ENEMY. They are indifferent to the suffering they cause at best and benefit from it at worst.
There can literally be no room for pop culture tolerance of AI anything. Give it an inch and it will literally destroy the world. (literally: AI has completely reversed all of our progress on global warming and because of what its done to the trendlines, we are on progress towards a hothouse earth at current.)
Probably not the response you wanted, but hey, AI isn't what we wanted, either.

It is 1776. You are "Public Universal Friend", a transmasculine Quaker. Transitioning is new and experimental.
It is 1906. You are Karl M. Baer, a trans man undergoing sex reassignment. Transitioning is new and experimental.
It is 1930. You are Lili Elbe. Transitioning is new and experimental. (to be fair you did get a uterus transplant.)
It is 1966. You are in Compton's Cafeteria with a bunch of other trans people when the owners call the cops to throw you all out. You riot. Transitioning is new and experimental.
It is 1969. You are Marsha "pay it no mind" Johnson. You are in a mob-run gay bar when the cops attack. You throw a brick. There is a bit of a scuffle. Transitioning is new and experimental.
It is 2026. You are a transgender adult or child listening to the NYT and British Guardian claim this is the first generation anyone has tried transitioning in. Transitioning is new and experimental.

So the Democrats whenever they lose a presidential election do an autopsy.
This is the first time they've ever done an autopsy and kept the results secret. It's usually very important that they make the results public so all of the candidates in future elections know what happened so they can avoid making the same mistake.
So why would they keep it a secret this time?
The answer won't surprise you.

I want to try getting into anime. I've almost zero experience with it.
Here's what I've tried:
Princess Mononoke (liked)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (disliked, can't handle queer coded kids trapped in abusive situations)
Princess Jellyfish (liked)
Kikis Delivery Service (okay ish)
Grave of the Fireflies (saw once as a teen and still feel traumatized)
The Cat Returns (nice)
Some anime about a witch on her own in the city. (Liked)
Sailor Moon Crystal (yeah!)
Full Metal Alchemist (disliked, couldn't get past the first episode, felt too much like a young boys cartoon)
"I don't want to get hurt so I'll put all my stats in defense" (was okay at first, dragged on later? Cute concept)
I have an account to crunchyroll via brother in law trade of my accounts on other things.
I know literally nothing else about anime otherwise.

2025-08-22 11:41:57 UTC

So I've been pondering a theory. Christianity is marked by a few things in the modern day. (sorry if your Christian and queer/BIPOC/etc, I know you exist, but otherwise...this is the culture).
1. A particular cruelty towards the poor, immigrant and marginalized.
2. 'a highway to heaven' - the world is something they endure on their way to becoming lords of the afterlife, essentially
3. An almost violent cultural reaction towards duty, stewardship or responsibility.
And I think these things are linked. I think the avoidance of death, grief and loss in #2 are what cause #3, and possibly make them prone to #1. Because you can consciously not think about something, but that makes it overwhelm your subconscious.
So Christianity, a death cult, becomes obsessed with not thinking about death. And anything that reminds it of that (poverty, famine, disaster, suffering, environmental decay) - becomes a threat. Right, because even environmental decay, in order to confront it you have to face grief.
And by avoiding grief, Christianity has refused, for some time now, to ever face its own shadows, wrapping itself in an ever-tighter cloak of arrogance, cruelty and self-righteousness.
A lot of our society is built around avoiding death, grief and loss this way. The rich and powerful don't want reminders of it; but this is a key part of life, and without it you can't really be human. You can't avoid grappling with it without consequences.
And when you are like this and see queer people, poor people, marginalized people, they remind you of the suffering inherent to life, and are a challenge to your worldview, and because its a death cult that avoids confronting death, that means anything that prods the worldview is an existential threat.
Because there's nothing, literally nothing, under evangelical (and increasingly, catholic) christianity but atheism, despair, arrogance and small, unchallenged egos afraid of their own shadow-selves.
Pre transition, years ago, I used to quote the sermon on the mount to evangelicals when they'd spout off pro-war or imperialistic things. Never once did I fail to see an ordained minister declaim the bible when confronted in that way. Never once. It was an almost universal response of literalists to being shown their own text "well, the bible isn't the entire faith anyways" and insane instant anger.
But at the end of the day, its an avoidance of grief, death suffering and loss. But that's the mystery of life.

2025-08-16 21:02:08 UTC

The old colonial notion that intelligence is the mark of sapience is entirely bullshit. Usually what people mean by intelligence is education, or the ability to clearly communicate; both of which are mostly indicative of wealth. But anyone whom has seen one pet mourn another can tell you, intelligence isn't the marker of sentience.
Empathy is.
They can program slime mold to solve traffic problems. Machines can spit out human text without a word of thought. The only mark of sentience is empathy.

So I was talking with my therapist about my massive depression and nihilistic spiral, and I mentioned that one of my biggest regrets is, four years in, not having any real life, offline, queer friends I see regularly. Not for lack of trying. I'm willing to drive a hundred miles to hang out! But meeting people who want sustained friendship is hard.
And my therapist asked me what I wanted. And I said other orcas - people like me, that I can see and be friends with and hang out with on a regular basis. (Orcas=other trans people but also queers maybe? It's a reference to a lonely orca 6000 miles from any others)
And my therapist, an enby with a B.S. in psychology and queer studies, looked sad and said that while we tell new people that, and it sounds utopian, that doesn't really exist.
And I....am kinda digesting that.

It immediately made me think of the two trans women in maine who got shot by border patrol 200 miles from the canadian border. I knew there was no fucking way they just 'happened' to be after a trans woman. (in this case, one was from germany, I don't remember the other).

So because I saw people panicking a --lot-- on discord, I want to note a few things:
1. This is not Nazi Germany. They are Nazis, yes. They are white supremacists, yes. They are fascists, yes, but this is not Nazi Germany. They will not be rounding us up and putting us into camps. Its going to be Jim Crow laws to make it hard to live and work and thrive. Read up on Black experiences to get an idea. I've been bad at this myself and am trying to rectify it.
2. It is not illegal to have an ID in your correct name and gender. I wouldn't UPDATE any federal ID between now and 2029, but...its not illegal. Police won't be able to arrest you for having a license or birth certificate or ID registered by your state.
3. Yes, RealID is going to be a PITA. It is. Period. Thats gonna suck. For me, especially. But if you already have good id, your ID will be good until whenever the expiration date is. Just don't update it.
4. Trump has no constitutional way to stay in office past this term. None. Zero. There is no way to do it. Will he try? Sure. Will it probably suck to be an elected Republican when he tries to off them again, as he did on Jan. 6? Yes. Well...that's their problem. But he won't be president again.
This is hard. This is scary. This is bad. But Black people have been suffering through this in this country for CENTURIES. literal centuries. If they can do it, we can learn from them and survive, too.
We have always been here. We always will.
Its okay to be afraid. I am. Its okay to want to leave; I wish I could. But we don't need to be so afraid we do their job for them.

2025-01-16 18:33:57 UTC

So there's a supreme court case right now that impacts us. It doesn't appear to, and like...I might be reaching but I don't think so.
They are testing if the Supreme Court will overturn decades of precedent to allow banning online porn access to people under 18. The court has for decades said you can't do that for free speech reasons; its onerous.
They will.
Here's the thing.
If Texas can do that they can define being queer as pornographic and ban it, too. And the court will allow it.
I'm not wrong.
So here's what they'll do. They'll publish an opinion on this, then on the Kentucky thing saying trans people are not discriminated against, two ENTIRELY UNRELATED OPINIONS
Then Texas/Florida will declare via state law our existence is pornographic and no content talking about being queer can be shown to people under 18. Which also means, you'll have to provide a real identity and ID in those states, which they can then keep track of.

Ok here's the answer to your REAL QUESTION:
https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/484026/how-does-an-ordinary-object-become-radioactive
Here's the answer to the QUESTION YOU ASKED:
"Neutrons, which are electrically neutral, can readily penetrate to the nuclei of metallic atoms. High energy neutrons may deliver appreciable kinetic energy to the nuclei, resulting in atom displacements within the metallic structures. Such displacements can lead to a chain of events in which multiple "knock-on" collisions occur that can lead to significant structural changes—strength, ductility, brittleness, etc
A second significant effect, especially important for low energy neutrons, is capture of neutrons by metallic nuclei, that yields atoms with one additional neutron compared to the usual stable configuration and with these species often being unstable (i.e., radioactive). For example, stable aluminum-27 (27Al) will be transformed to radioactive 28Al, which has a short half-life of about 2.3 minutes, and emits beta and gamma radiation. Mercury has several stable isotopes, and a few radionuclides are possible from neutron capture. One of the most significant of these is mercury-203 (203Hg), produced by neutron capture in 202Hg. The 203Hg has a half-life of about 46 days and emits beta and gamma radiation. A second radionuclide, 199mHg, produced from neutron capture by 198Hg, emits gamma radiation with a 43-minute half-life.
The processes of radiation-induced damage in metals, especially those exposed to high fluences of neutrons, can be a significant concern in some facilities. A common example is nuclear reactors, that operate for long periods, producing very high fluences of neutrons, some of which may irradiate metallic components and cause possible deleterious effects."

Nancy Pelosi campaigning against AOC from her non-literal (probably?) deathbed in favor of an 84 year old guy with cancer is just peak democratic party.
Listen, I'll be honest, the people who have most hurt the dems are not Donald Trump or Fox News. Its a long list of octogenarian democrats so fucking old they should have retired BEFORE ANY OF US WERE BORN EXCEPT POSSIBLY OLD LADY CAIT AND I'M NOT EVEN SURE ON THAT ONE.

Ignoring how you physically look, weigh, health concerns, disability, talent, etc - would you, if offered, take a job dancing at the Pink Pony Club?

The Sisterhood of Evil Transfemmes
The Siblings of Apocalyptic Queers
The Brotherhood of Evil Gays
....
The Coven of Evil Queer Bitches
Listen, you can be male, female, non-binary, nothing at all, fluid, a problem.... nothing can stop you from ALSO being a bitch.

Ok I have a weird question.
....what dating app would be most useful for finding queers to form a DND group with?
I found a younger trans man who wants to play DND in my area but could use a few more queers.
The only thing I can think of, other than posting to the whole towns Facebook page, is a dating app.

vampires would all be hella gay if they were real. fae too.
either that or just stupid worthless shits. no inbetween.
if someone is 400 years old and hasn't chosen their own gender yet, they are not worth knowing. what a fucking looser.
ergo: vampires/fae must be really gay

Also if any of you are secretly a vampire and don't offer to turn the other queers, how dare you.

Me: um, yes.

The other things I'll note:
1. The Sarah McBride thing isn't about, for Republicans, where she uses the bathroom. Its about that Republicans see us as shameful untouchables unworthy of respect, and they see her as *unworthy of the chamber* - what they wanted was for her to escalate so they could treat her like a child and have her escorted from the chamber.
2. A lot of the people and accounts (mostly on facebook) cyberbullying McBride are the same @###!#$$ trans accounts who, a few months ago, were saying that voting for Biden or Kamala was a vote for genocide. I don't think they should take out their fear or guilt on her, either.
History is long. Its rough. I'm scared. We are all scared. But I'm glad to have one of us in the chamber. I'm not her responsibility. I'm mine.
I don't know if we'll make it. I think as a country we'll come out of this with something like democratic socialism. But its going to suck.
And we are going to be terrified for awhile. That's okay? Its okay.
