Brazil’s Federal Police will investigate Senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign over two allegations: foreign financing and the manipulation of social media algorithms during the election.
The investigation was ordered by Supreme Court Justice Flávio Dino.

France’s Prime Minister sent a letter to Orange, SFR, Free and Bouygues telling them to prepare to block TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and X for up to 12 hours if protests flared again. He asked them to keep it confidential.
The government wanted the order delivered privately to each company, with nothing in the official journal. The public would get a press release 30 minutes before the block went live.
It was the operators’ lawyers who asked whether shutting down four platforms nationwide was necessary or proportionate. Orange insisted on a formal, signed order.
France’s top administrative court ruled the 2024 TikTok block in New Caledonia illegal last year. The government drew up a bigger one anyway. Staff were on call all weekend. Nobody pulled the switch this time, but they built it ready for the next one.

President Donald Trump criticized the ceasefire with Iran, calling it a “waste of time.” He said the agreement allowed some ships to pass through as a gesture of goodwill, but maintained that the ceasefire had little value.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, followed by calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Reuters reported.
Stubb’s office said his conversation with Putin focused on upcoming meetings in Abu Dhabi. Zelenskyy said Friday that Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. negotiators had agreed to hold technical-level talks there in early November.
Stubb described his call with Putin as “frank and substantive,” emphasizing that the outcome of the war would directly affect Finland’s and Europe’s broader security. He added that ending the conflict would require direct discussions.
A Zelenskyy aide confirmed that the Ukrainian president spoke with both leaders afterward. Stubb and Støre stressed that they participated as representatives of their respective countries, rather than on behalf of Europe, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine.
According to Reuters, most Western European leaders have avoided direct contact with Putin since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Stubb and Støre met U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Zelenskyy in Oslo last week, a day before Witkoff held talks with Putin in St. Petersburg. Following that meeting, the Kremlin said it was prepared to resume U.S.-mediated peace talks with Ukraine in November, marking the first such discussions since February.

Flávio Bolsonaro abandoned his bid to annul Brazil’s election results just minutes after Trump called the vote “rigged”—but offered no indication that Washington would intervene.
Trump told reporters the election “looked so corrupt, so terrible” and insisted that elections “have to be indisputable.” Then he stopped short of offering any concrete support.
Earlier that morning, Flávio had condemned the extension of voting hours as a “dirty trick.” But immediately after Trump’s remarks, he narrowed his challenge to a routine lawsuit alleging that Lula’s pre-runoff welfare increases unfairly influenced voters.
The circumstances surrounding the dispute raise serious questions. The extension was ordered by a justice who had previously served as Lula’s personal lawyer, while the judge who seized Flávio’s passport was also responsible for imprisoning his father.

I just had the best phone call ever.
My kid called me (at 6 am, of course, from college), to report that his debit card isn't working. He's got plenty of cash in the account. Thinking its probably a suspicious activity hold, or maybe a spending limit.
Anyone with teenagers knows that getting them to listen is a Sisyphean task, but he said something next that absolutely warmed my heart.
"It's my money, they shouldn't freeze it unless I tell them to."
I laughed and said that they don't see it that way as they'll cover you if someone steals your money, but if you want control like that you need Bitcoin.
He then asked about his brokerage account debit card...I pointed out that he could use it but the account is invested in an index fund he bought, and that he'd need to sell it and wait a day.
"Why do I need to wait, isn't the market open in like 3 hours?"
Settlement rules, because again, the whole thing is a stack of trusted counterparties.
I might FINALLY have found the way to get him to pay a bit more attention to Bitcoin's properties.
That said, until we figure out time preference I'm not gonna consider this too much of a victory. No point buying it and then spending it when it's down 50% because there's something shiny.

Former FBI Director James Comey has been charged with two federal counts over the alleged disclosure of national defense information to a reporter in 2016. The criminal information was filed under seal October 5th and unsealed Today by U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden at Comey’s request.
Count one charges unlawful transmission of national defense information under 18 U.S.C. § 793(d) on or about October 5th, 2016. Count two charges conspiracy, alleging Comey, through one or more co-conspirators, directed an unnamed individual, "Individual 1", to disclose national defense information to a reporter for a national news publication.
Comey has moved to dismiss, arguing the 10 year statute of limitations prosecutors say applies covers only indictments, not a criminal information, which was filed exactly 10 years after the alleged disclosure. Prosecutors say the law allows an information to meet the deadline and that his motion is premature. McFadden said he will address the issues “in due course.”

A Nukhba Force cell commander and a Hamas sniper were among four operatives killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza on Saturday and Sunday, according to the IDF. The other two operatives were members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Australia has its first class action against Meta over “addictive design.” Eight plaintiffs say Facebook and Instagram harmed them as children. The details are sealed, but the theory is familiar.
In the US this year, every case built on the addiction argument ended with Meta agreeing to check users’ ages. A New Mexico judge called age verification “the key.” A multistate settlement now requires it for every Facebook and Instagram account in the settling states.
