I just had the best phone call ever.

My kid called me (at 6 am, of course, from college), to report that his debit card isn't working. He's got plenty of cash in the account. Thinking its probably a suspicious activity hold, or maybe a spending limit.

Anyone with teenagers knows that getting them to listen is a Sisyphean task, but he said something next that absolutely warmed my heart.

"It's my money, they shouldn't freeze it unless I tell them to."

I laughed and said that they don't see it that way as they'll cover you if someone steals your money, but if you want control like that you need Bitcoin.

He then asked about his brokerage account debit card...I pointed out that he could use it but the account is invested in an index fund he bought, and that he'd need to sell it and wait a day.

"Why do I need to wait, isn't the market open in like 3 hours?"

Settlement rules, because again, the whole thing is a stack of trusted counterparties.

I might FINALLY have found the way to get him to pay a bit more attention to Bitcoin's properties.

That said, until we figure out time preference I'm not gonna consider this too much of a victory. No point buying it and then spending it when it's down 50% because there's something shiny.
