Auch schon wieder zwei Jahre her, dass ich das gefragt habe, unglaublich. Die alte Combo läuft immer noch. Die Antwort muss nicht mehr stimmen.

My homepage is on codeberg.page, which is great. They are moving to git-pages but the "simple migration" guide leaves questions.
Anyway, I would experiment and figure out, no problem. Except: I have no clue how to debug if things don't work:
- The webhook, how can I see gets triggered?
- If it triggered but failed, where can I see it? Logs?
- If I get or don't get a page served afterwards, how can I know which server tried, the old or the new one?
Hints appreciated.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, 😠
I want all buttons by default to have
min-width: 40px;
for fat fingers on mobiles. If the button text is longer, I assumed the larger width prevails. But no, if a the containing flex gets narrow, the button goes down to 40px.
Some sloppers say
min-width: max(40px, min-content);
which sounds logical, but is "invalid property" (firefox, chrome).
Ideas?

Between adding children to the container and reordering, is there a round of the event loop. Because in what I have, there isn't. All in one shot I have:
- add children to container
- for (const child of container.children) { ... add child to separate array ... }
- reorder children in separate array
- remove all (see previous post)
- add all (see previous post)
I tried already [...container.children], doesn't matter.
Also @npub10fa…rdvy : the gist clearly has two rounds afaict

Tried already removeChild, same problem. In the end, the setTimout does not really bother me, except that it needs a comment to describe the weirdness. But I find the "why" interesting.😀

Nice find. But, hmm, I decoupled already and have a separate array, but the hint may help,to figure out what is going on.

2026-05-21 13:54:21 UTC

Weird #JavaScript behavior with Element.remove():
const children = ... // sorted children of container
children.forEach((ch) => ch.remove());
if (1 > 2) {
setTimeout(() => {
for (const child of children) {
container.append(child);
}
}, 0);
} else {
for (const child of children) {
container.append(child);
}
}
The setTimeout branch works, the other not. Anyone? @npub10fa…rdvy would you have an idea?
A shallow explanation: removal needs one round of the event loop. But why?

@npub1fh7…ee83
Suppose I want to find an interesting project to contribute to on Codeberg. How's that done?
I assume something like this would be nice:
- search through all issues
- restrict to "help wanted" or similar issue labels
- filter by projects implemented mainly in programming language ...
This does not exist, afaict. Or does it?

OTA updates on cars should simply not be allowed. Come to garage, let us connect a cable, update, test, leave.
No sane car manufacturer would deliver shit software which costs a fortune and aggravates customers with each update.
OK, I see, this concept is flawed: "sane car manufacturer".

I write my blog in plain HTML + a simple script to embed pages into a page structure. No problem with #emacs, the few <p> don't kill me.
Yet one thing: If I have a longer term which appears frequently in a text, I would like to abbreviate it. In LaTeX I would do
\def\sol\xspace{speed of light}
and then keep writing \sol.
I could devise a similar simple expansion in my script, but started to wonder if there is any chance to do it with HTML+CSS (no JS!) only?

I guess the volunteers have enough headaches from berserk AI crawlers. So if they drop the pages, that would be completely understandable:
"Codeberg Pages is currently provided with a best effort approach. To be exact, the software behind this feature is currently in maintenance mode."
Any suggestions where I could publish, say, the Javadoc of a software I maintain. Just a git push and be done. European provider, independent of the US clouds required, though.

@npub10fa…rdvy Hi, did you mention recently that a TypeScript union type is limited to 25 elements? I can't find your post about it. (Searching Mastodon is a bit of a black art, it seems.) Is that true or do I remember this incorrectly?
The reason is that I am experimenting with scheme for localizations where the allowed strings to localize are elements of a union type. A limit of 25 would be really bad.

The de-serialization part has no benefit. You're seeing bytes coming in. You may apply JSON.parse() without Error. Then, what? A string, a number, an object, an array. You will have to validate the whole structure anyway and while you do that, you may well assemble a proper object again.
This leaves you with the theoretical possibility to do a JSON.stringify(fancyThing) for serialization --- if the fancyThing object is stringifyable, as, for example map and set are not.

The improved issue search is nice. I never really understood the [Open|Closed] buttons which sometimes seemed to have shown everything. Now we have three buttons [Open|Closed|All], which is much better. And the Fuzzy/Exact select does not reset when switching between open/closed👍 .
But could you elaborate what hides behind "improvements to code [ ] search"? I must admit I never really used it anyway, but it says it is just using `git grep`. What was it before?

On my 4 year old laptop, starting a Java cli program, no dependencies, takes 300 to 400ms, C compiled stuff is close to unmeasurable.That's the price to pay for class loading. For me it is ok-ish when its a manual run.
But when you expect the program to be called with, say, xargs on many files, you surely want compiled. I never tried graal, but would think it "just compiles" what you wrote. But then Rust may be fun to learn.

It is somewhat annoying, to see the disabled security updates in Ubuntu update-manager each time.
On the other hand they are providing a useful service for years and I cannot think of a less ugly idea to motivate users to help finance the thing. Looking at the price: $25/year seems half reasonable actually.
Question: anyone have experience: payment method, cancellation of the subscription, ease of configuring the key or login?
