Many people recommend Brave as a browser these days. I just tried it again after a while.
The good: it has a built-in ad blocker and blocks YouTube ads completely.
The bad: it's noticeably slow at loading regular web pages, even with a 1 Gbps connection. And that crypto shit nowbody needs. Still too bloated as a web browser, like most of them.
I've gotten so used to the ultra-slim ungoogled-chromium setup, with a working YouTube ad blocker and full anti-tracking features, that browsing feels as fast as opening local files. No other browser matches that.
It's sad that you have to be a nerd to get a truly fast, ad- and tracking-free browsing experience these days. Most browsers only give you one or the other.

Tästä hommasta olen ylpeä, joten voi vähän leveillä muuallakin kuin LinkedInissä. Olen niin iloinen siitä, että pääsen töissä tekemään asiaa, jossa olen hyvä - ja työn jälki näkyy.

For some, joining Mastodon might seem risky because "the server could shut down at any time" or because it's managed by a single administrator. While these concerns are understandable, Mastodon has far more safeguards in place compared to centralized platforms:
1. Admins are typically experienced sysadmins with a strong passion for server management.
2. It's generally recommended to have multiple admins (we have four).
3. Many servers have financial plans in place, such as donation systems. We have my company backing things up.
4. Infrastructure is often cost-effective, keeping operating costs low.
A few additional points to consider:
1. No server - or anything in life - is immortal. That's exactly why I chose the name mementomori.social (the stoic phrase "memento mori" means "remember death").
2. Web services come and go, but longevity is possible. My first website has been online continuously for 27 years (since 1998). While I've migrated servers a few times, the site itself has never gone offline. It will most likely happen after I pass away, but I hope my descendants keep it online.
Unlike centralized platforms - especially newer ones - that rely on user growth and profitability, investors can pull the plug at any time.
The decentralized Fediverse operates differently: sysadmins are committed to keeping their servers online and do so out of dedication, not for monetary gain.

This post is a love letter to my home town, Jyväskylä.
Wikipedia pages really make you realize how beautiful your own city is. I live in Jyväskylä, Finland, I have born here and I never want to move to anywhere else. I love it here. I live near Tourujoki river and Jyväsjärvi lake, there's lots of nature in my city, it's generally decent sized and has everything I really need.
I live in downtown in the penthouse of an apartment building that has seven floors and I see the whole city here, far to the mountains with trees. When I go to run, I can combine four lakes route in one half marathon. It's really a bliss with full four seasons. I have to admit 6 months of cold and dark is sometimes a bit too much, but I enjoy it anyway.
Here's some photos from Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jyv%C3%A4skyl%C3%A4
From the left:

More photos on Wikipedia and occasionally under my account from my runs ✌️

@npub1x3p…skql Wow, each morning is very often! That requires a lot of strength. Do you miss any morning, is it always without effort? Curious.
I do a regular 5K in the mornings because I don't want to wake up at 5am. I'm a night owl anyway.

@npub1x3p…skql Yes! E have four lakes around our city. On 20-30km run you can run beside all of them. I run a half marathon in between every four weeks or so.

During my 10 months time here on Mastodon I've learned so much from myself and the world around me, more than ever on Twitter in 16 years. All my life I've had this false sense of control. Not even having kids changed that. Not even having my own servers to run websites moved that mountain.
When I first encountered to this world of #Fediverse, I realized. No server is permanent, no one is going to live forever. There is a reason why my instance is called #MementoMoriSocial. This, in a sense, has been a huge and ongoing therapy session for me. We must remember there is no control. We must remember to focus in this moment. There is only present. :skull360:
Thanks for having me. Have a nice day! :bunhdheart:
