How the hell does someone stay in a single job for 20, 25, 30+ years? It's unimaginable to me. Thinking back, I've left jobs because...
1. Low pay, toxic
2. Didn't like living in that city
3. Low pay, toxic
4. Laid off
5. Toxic
6. Toxic
7. Low pay
8. Toxic
9 Out of business
10. Lost interest
11. Laid off
Is there something wrong with me?

Is this something you do at home? Seems very dangerous. Or do you take it to some gun shop and tell the owner to engrave your vaguely threatening tranny psychosis phrase onto live ammo, and he shrugs his shoulders and says ok, anything for a buck?

Is ammunition engraving really a thing? I'd never heard of it before a couple of shootings ago. It seems performative.

Who is qualified for this job? WHO? This should be at least 3 separate jobs. What I've listed here are just requirements and desires, not job duties, education, or certifications they ask for. There MAY be a small handful of people who would be willing and able to do this job, but they're taken (and I hope they're getting paid *well*) but I doubt you're going to find them through a recruiting email sent to anyone on Dice with a resume that sounds vaguely technical.
No salary or benefits listed, btw. On the upside, it's fully remote.

I'm down for a White male-lead IT services company, all-in. I previously was one of the owners of an IT services company for a decade, and our biggest problem *wasn't* attracting technical talent, especially White males. Getting tech things done and done right was never an issue. The biggest hurdle we faced was finding *sales* talent. In 10 years we never had anyone who could effectively sell our services.
IT service companies can't survive on a customer base of small to medium businesses. Those customers expect the world for $7.95 a month and are slow to pay, and sometimes don't pay at all. They're break-even at best. Also, you're always being compared to bigger service companies that can usually do more with less because they can do volume business with small to medium businesses, because they have large contracts to back that up.
And that was our core issue, we struggled because we didn't have the connections and clout to land a competent sales guy who had the connections and clout to land us large contracts. This meant we were shifting focus and priorities as needed to keep things afloat, which in turn created confusion among customers and even employees about what exactly we did.
In the middle of last year my business partners decided once again they wanted to shift focus to something I wasn't interested in, so I sold my share. Exactly one month later I landed a job doing Linux server stuff making 2.5x my previous self-employed salary.
So, if you want to start an IT services business, you have to base it around someone's sales capabilities. Until you have that, you don't really have a business.

Truly amazing that someone like Musk complains about the lack of motivated talent, and yet is at the top, the public face of, a tech industry where companies refuse to invest in developing that talent.
In 30 years in tech, I've had one single employer send me to one single training course because I named it as a condition of my employment and subsequently badgered them for a year until they relented.
I've never had any employer offer any type of training, education, certification, professional development, or anything of the sort. I've had most employers pigeonhole me into a specific job for years at a stretch and never offer advancement (and rarely even a cost-of-living raise) or an opportunity to gain experience through promotion or even a lateral move.
All of my certifications and training have come at my time and expense. All of my increased earnings have come from grinding through the interview and hiring process yet another time. I know I don't come off well on social media, but please believe me, in person I'm an intelligent, responsible, qualified adult man with three decades' experience and literally 10 pages of accomplishments to my resume, and it gets sent to the same HR black hole as anyone else.
As I get older, over 50, I dread what may become of my career in tech. Things are going well for me now, but can easily turn bad. To read anyone telling me that Americans lack motivation and talent is infuriating as I, and others, desperately attempt to get the attention of companies hiring for jobs we're very clearly qualified for and are purposely ignored, told we don't exist, and need to be replaced with street shitters.
I know what the billionaires' goals are, I understand the situation. I also know that the longer it continues, the less any man is invested in the American economic zone. What I don't know is how this ends.

Safari is the browser engine on Macs, iPhones, and iPads. It's about 1/3 of marketshare in the US, second after Google Chrome. It's completely standards compliant and macOS is the most popular and successful desktop Unix variant ever. There's no reason it shouldn't be properly supported.

2024-12-01 04:31:22 UTC

The problem only occurs when I use NiceCrew.digial in Safari browser over VPN. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with the Soapbox software (Alex Gleason himself has told me it's a clusterfuck), not the hosting. I can't prove anything because I can only see things from the client end. The problem doesn't occur when I access the site directly or through iCloud relay. I'm not sure what there is between Soapbox and the VPN that causes this, and I'll never have insight to that. All I know is, when I ask any one link in the chain about the problem, the response is, "not me", when I get a response at all.

2024-12-01 04:12:52 UTC

The web developer will tell me there's nothing wrong with their website.
The VPN developer will tell me there's nothing wrong with their VPN.
The browser developer, if they ever answer me, will tell me there's nothing wrong with their browser.
And yet I'll live with this indefinitely until someone coincidentally makes some change that fixes it.
Fuck developers. I hope you all burn in hell.

I'm going to respond from a bit of the amoeba perspective because I've felt myself becoming more and more like one, and I'm sure my experience isn't particularly unique.
I'm a middle-aged while male. I've been abandoned by family, society, and government. I will never have a wife or children; most of my family is dead, insane, or too far away; friends are few and far between (although the ones I have are close); relationships with neighbors are cursory; and I have absolutely zero influence on anything that happens in my community, state, or nation. I am a zero. When I die, my things will be taken out to a dumpster and as soon as I'm in the ground it will be as if I was never here. There may be a gap on the NCD timeline where my cringe used to be, but nobody will ever know what happened to me.
My job pays very well, but it's repetitive, monotonous, and when it's not boring, it's frustrating, And lots of jobs are probably like that, and we spend the majority of our waking hours in that state. Businesses run on fumes and any vacation time either means fear of losing a job, or double the work when you return. There's no escape, every day is so much like the day before it, and the day 100 days from now will be much like today. That's enough to make anyone into an amoeba on its own.
The only thing I look forward to is retirement, and even that'll probably be forced because I'll be unemployable at some point. I have no idea what I'll do with that time.
All the hobbies and activities I used to enjoy are now either too expensive to participate in, have been pozzed in one of a million ways, or I'm no longer physically capable of keeping up. It may just be a normal consequence of aging, but I'm much less able to put up with lousy people and bullshit than I was in the past, and that eliminates a lot of things.
So I'm dead inside. My life consists of running out the clock. The only thing that really exists is the moment. I don't want to be this way, but I am. And I think the amoebas are too, for specific reasons that may vary from mine, but for largely the same broad causes.
I've read here many times that it's not to anyone's credit to adapt to a sick society and become mentally ill themselves. These are the people who have adapted. It's a matter of survival.
I'm not writing this to get anyone's condolences for my personal state of things, but I thought it might resonate with some here and provide insight.

I don't think they have, or will have, absolute control over all elections, but I do think they have a machine that can shove certain elections in a direction pretty hard when they perceive a threat. Presidential elections are a unique case because of the electoral college. They didn't absolutely control all state elections, but rather activated their machine in certain metro areas of strategic states to push the electoral count over the line and shut down questions.
As I've commented before, they underestimated Trump in 2016 and afterwards they overcorrected because he made fools of them and gave people the notion there's some viable alternative to ZOG. They're up against him again, and they hate him with a burning fury. I think they'll certainly try the steal again, probably more blatantly, because those are the stakes in their minds.
