Last week it was pain in the left leg, this week it’s pain in the right arm. Exciting! Who says old people are boring?

Transphobes who assign a gender to their pickup truck (saying "She's a beaut!" or giving it a gendered nickname) should be beaten with their truck nuts.

I'm not anti-scooter I'm just anti-asshole. I like micromobility solutions but wish people would not leave these scooter blocking the sidewalk. I'm not sure how wheelchair users would get around these, but luckily there is a bike lane, and I would welcome any wheelchair user to utilize it.

Car drivers often insist we cyclists "don't contribute to the roads" but in the last few days I've pulled a 4x4 block of wood out of the road, moved a dead animal off the road, and reported this crash debris, which has now been cleaned up.
I also report potholes and other road issues, along with illegal parking.
I think I do more to maintain safe roads than 99% of car drivers.

People with no artistic skills found a way to replace people with artistic skills by using a machine that stole from those who shared their artistic skills. Had my first bike crash today. Took a turn a little too sharp to avoid going into the mud. I went into the mud anyway. My left hand got the edge of the pavement and I got a bit of a scrape (no blood) and banged my shin (minor blood).
I really need to get gloves. Both hands are a little sore, hopefully will not last too long.
Bent the shit out of my handlebars. Need to see if I can fix that.
Anyway, enjoy the crash photos!

@nprofile…mk4g It’s usually just long press to power on, long press to power off, and any short press just cycles through the modes. Easy?

I make electronics stuff but I definitely don't know everything. If I build something with a battery I try to include a power switch, which controls power...
But like, those consumer devices that have a single button that powers on, powers off, and does other functions by cycling through presses... how do they work for on and off?
Is it a sleep mode where a very small bit of power is always present and the button wakes it into a full-power mode?

I mostly hand-sew things (repairs) and my partner does have their mom's old machine (which still works!)
So we've gave the machine to my daughter and she could not be happier! She just sewed up parts for an art installation and is working on making her own pants now.
Glad it's getting used & getting a new life.

They were never “free” since they were about lock-in, hurting competition, and shifting who was paying for things.

As a child I developed a love of technology, but as an adult I've come to see how technology helps empower evil.
I saw a quote the other day that said "Modern technology makes it even easier for bad people to do bad things" and that pretty much sums it up.
That doesn't mean we give up on technology, it means we take it back for ourselves and use it to take control of our own lives (and our own data) and tell the evil tech users to suck it.

We got some eggs from a friend who has chickens, so I whipped up a little breakfast sandwich with one of the pretzel buns I made last week.
The cheese is store-bought though… not sure I’m ready to start making my own cheese!

Experimenting with creating a halftoned printing plate. The file is 720MB which is pretty large! We'll see how it turns out when (if?) it prints. OpenSCAD warned me with "GeometryEvaluator: Node didn't fit into cache" but it seemed to render and export okay.

Milwaukee bike riders, you only need to wait 45 seconds at a red light.

Do people who do not have cats not know what "toe beans" are?

This one is trickier than it seems...
If you choose to run over the 5 Billionaires first there is a chance the trolley will derail and not get that last Billionaire... But what if the opposite happens and you only get the one Billionaire and miss the other five!?

I started reading someone’s blog and then found a post that was pro-AI and just closed that tab and quit my browser to go bake bread instead.

There’s a new local brewery opening 4 blocks from my house, which is cool, but it’s a shame I don’t drink beer. Maybe they’ll have food trucks now and then.

Fairplayer is sort of like a federated Bandcamp...
"Fairplayer plays music from a decentralized ecosystem. Artists and communities publish their music on their own websites and link them to a player where the user can listen to them all."

Make Magazine is starting to use Substack… Isn’t that the site that platforms Nazis?

Tiny loaf of bread turned out weird looking but tastes just fine.

I’m not that smart but I’m posting this on the Fediverse can one of you smart people shutdown X/Twitter somehow?
It would be a public service and you would be considered a hero.

Hey kids, in the olden days you bought (instead of “rented”) software and it came in a box with a disc and it was yours to use forever!

I don't even verify my code before I run it you think I'm going to verify my Mastodon account!?

2026-02-28 22:36:55 UTC

I read a README file I wrote a few weeks ago and decided it didn't have enough information, so it's now twice as long with a lot more detail.
I'm the only one who will ever read or use the file, but I have learned I cannot rely on my own memory a few months or years from now when I need to revisit the project or do something similar.
Make notes! Make more notes. It's a text file, it won't take up much space but it might save you a bunch of time in the future.

Favorite comment I read today:
"I don’t know why anyone trusts “the cloud”. It’s named after clouds for fucks sake, those things that are impermanent and shift and change and blow about in the breeze or break and cover you in rain and even with the best of human science are only reliably predictable a few days into the future."
