I quite like CLOS but having been diving into chez scheme and the 'protocol syntax is quite nice.
'initialize-instance :after is one of the last things i was learning in CL.
I would be happy with either CL or scheme, they are both local maximums of "a good language" to me.
One thing i miss from CL is keyword args, but it's possible I just haven't gotten deep enuf into the idiom and won't miss them.

I want this for programming.
And maybe live isolated in a natural setting that has bees and makes mead.
Some bells will ring and i will know there is some honey and bread and tomato lunch for me.
My belt is a rope.
My garment is scratchy, but it doesn't take away from the joy of the sun on my face.

#commonlisp
I had initially skipped on using define-constant and only use defvar IIRC because of reloading code at the REPL.
I intended to come back to this when it was important enough.
Now I'm reading common-lisp code and I see these two define-constant macros, one from Edi W. and one from alexandria.
https://github.com/edicl/drakma/blob/master/specials.lisp#L35
https://gitlab.common-lisp.net/alexandria/alexandria/-/blob/master/alexandria-1/definitions.lisp?ref_type=heads
These look pretty similar, I think I'm gonna start using alexandria's version, because I already have standardized on it for other stuff.

#commonlisp
#qlot
qlot has been such a level up in my common-lisp programming.
Being able to consume quicklist, ultralisp, and private repos all in a consistent fashion is so great.
The latest one is I am using qlot's 'local' which means I can temporarilly pull from a local repo. This is good when developing a library to consume and you don't want to keep pushing you changes to some remote branch and running qlot update everytime.

I like playing with #icecast server
http://air.d34d.net:8009/stream
Sometimes i think the rules of time get broken.
How can I pause a stream and come back and the song picks up but it doesn't lose sync with the server?
It must be like lagging the server by some local cache buffer amount (of time).

#commonlisp
I don't know if I have gotten better or commonlisp is just good for it but:
This is the easiest language I've ever been able to 1. be exploratory and 2. go back and refactor the off the cuff stuff into decently structured libs.
Like usually you get "1" but NOT "2".
I will say the import-from, local-nicknames, use, ... stuff is a learning curve.
But it makes juggling whole blocks of code from one system to another pretty smooth.

2024-09-07 04:37:08 UTC

Ok I have been playing a lot with icecast and random streams and like little filler sounds. I am thinking of a forum or even a fedi where if you want you can post audio snippets instead of text snippets.
Or more simple this jukebox things where you can choose a song or record a quote or anything.
Like I would like to listen to a sort of group curated audio feed. And kinda lean on some of those basic popularity algorithms , like lemmy.

The Ship of Theseus has rekindled my ideas of where the identity of something lives, or even if things have identities beyond just time local conveniences for people to communicate about things.
One of my triggers was an idea I had about designing big software systems where the concept is more really in the in between spaces.
Like picture a software system (that's pretty common) where it's roughly 50% database design schema and 50% business logic in code that works with said schema.

Again I am checking myself.
If you write code in BASH because you like bash, then ignore this, or just consider it.
I am assuming people write code in bash because they assume it's the same as sh, so why not have better arrays also. (or whatever)

2024-07-25 14:52:25 UTC

I don't understand writing shell code with BASH extensions.
Or any non-bourne/posix extensions.
If the language is too klunky use a higher level language. The reason to use shell is because it us ubiquitous.
/bin/sh <- this is ubiquitous. This is not bash.
/bin/bash <- this is not ubiquitous.

2024-07-14 04:56:16 UTC

I have been ruminating a lot on the "status quo". I don't like status quo thinking at all,but for personal reasons.
This was my shower thought.
The brutality of the status quo really comes out from top down authority structures. Top down implies the reaction to change speed is very slow.
So people in power are pretty isolated and they push a status quo agenda.
People on the ground are subjected to it where real life happens and they deal with all the ways it is oppressive.
I'm struggling

An AI taxi that suddenly wakes up might veer into the path of a semi-truck. We would never now it was sentient.
Sad and poignant and also a little bit whimsical and comical.
---
I thought of this because I speak loosely of "AI" when I usually mean the current LLMs.

2024-06-27 20:21:24 UTC

Just to be clear if there were sentient AIs, they would have rights.
Like the the more sentient they become the less you can expect them to do anything.
Also you know how we live closely with cats and are sometimes befuddled by their logic.
An AI would likely be even farther from a rationality that is human relatable. I always thought a good scifi plot would be that the first AIs were taxis and forklifts and smart centrifuges. Some of them might kill themselves the moment they "wake up".

Chomsky is where I learned about oppressed people in Chiappas and oppressed people in Palestine.
I appreciated that he talks about ways groups can fight oppression, or highlight who and how those that do.
He is where I learned anarchism wasn't something that is for punk rock bands from england.
He is where I learned to be critical of NPR 🖕
I think he is where I learned to question all entrenched power structures, especially the ones that rewrite history to be the good guys (THE USA)

I have this code review trait I've realized.
I just want people to hear my critique, I frequently want what they do with it to be up to them.
(Of course somethings I want changed and am adamant about, like noob stuff (nothing wrong with noob stuff).)
I think it's because in a big system I think course dominates over where you are at a fixed point in time.
If I share my critique and you hear me, that is charting course. That's more important to me, than whatever example triggered the thought

I'm trying to figure out the idiomatic way to use package-inferred-system combined with testing in a "t" directory.
This works so far. The project itself is to have a CLOS class that can be extended and be able to read and write itself from and to an alist on file. Basically for "settings" or "config" stuff.
https://codeberg.org/pkw/file-config
caveat:
I am not great with testing code, all the test code does is run example code under a test system. But I assume that's a good start.
