This is neat. A site dedicated to classic short stories. Formats them for easy reading on many devices.

Can't find much info about this photo. Reddit says it's from the Soviet Union in the 80s. I'd like to meet this guy, and his camel.

From Reddit: The NEC N5200 is a curious little workstation from 1987. It runs proprietary PTOS on an Intel 286. This version comes with a hard drive and boots from it. You can select boot option via a toggle on the case front

I've switched to a dumb phone. I'm tired of carrying a little focus vampire in my pocket.
So far, I'm surprised at how often I want to ask the internet a question. Instead I write them in the notebook for later.
I'm calling friends a lot more. #dumbphone #lowtech

"No front porches. My uncle says there used to be front porches. And people sat there sometimes at night, talking when they wanted to talk, rocking, and not talking when they didn't want to talk. Sometimes they just sat there and thought about things, turned things over. My uncle says the architects got rid of the front porches because they didn't look well. But my uncle says that was merely rationalizing it; the real reason, hidden underneath, might be they didn't want people sitting like that, doing nothing, rocking, talking; that was the wrong KIND of social life. People talked too much. And they had time to think. So they ran off with the porches."

you've probably seen this, but for anyone who hasn't: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/02/16/how-target-figured-out-a-teen-girl-was-pregnant-before-her-father-did/ (How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did)
I spent five years with Target and everything you're saying is spot on. They don't advertise it anymore, but Target's data collection is out of control. However, credit card companies are the real conduit.
