Here is an other post of my series about WebDAV & CO.
[hr]
So before we get to specific use cases for WebDAV & CO in combination with Hubzilla and streams here one more post with some general information:
[h1]WebDAV[/h1]
(Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) is a set of extensions to HTTP allowing the Web to be viewed as a writable, collaborative medium and [mark]not just a read-only medium[/mark]. Even so WebDAV started as the overall expression for this protocols [mark]the word WebDAV it today manly used in combination with files in a cloud[/mark] and their exchange with Clients. With WebDav you can do:
[mark] - Remote file access and management
- Collaborative document editing
- File synchronization across devices
- Content management for websites[/mark]
[h1]CalDAV[/h1]
(Calendar Distributed Authoring and Versioning) extends the WebDAV specification [mark]to access and manage calendar data along with the ability to schedule meetings[/mark] with users on the same or on remote servers. There are many implementations of CalDAV- so also e.g. Apple Calendar (formerly iCal) uses CalDAV and you also can show a CalDAV Calendar in a Google Calendar #^[url=https://developers.google.com/calendar/caldav/v2/guide]https://developers.google.com/calendar/caldav/v2/guide[/url] - ( but if you have your CalDAV Calendar you do not need a Google Calendar i would say :-) )
[h1]CardDAV[/h1]
(vCard Distributed Authoring and Versioning) extends the WebDAV specification to allow users to [mark]access and share contacts and address books[/mark]. It became known as a synchronization protocol in iOS 7, among other things, and is now also supported by Gmail and Thunderbird.
[hr]
All this has a [mark]Server and a Client side[/mark] - for which different implementations are needed. So there are implementations that just install as a Client and need to be connected to a Server. [mark]The server is a central controller and the client is usually a utility that runs on endpoints.[/mark]
There are a lot implementations in also well known software.
Here you can find some incomplete lists of such implementations:

Hubzilla and streams have the [mark]Sabre[/mark] WebDAV, CalDAV and CardDAV server implemented #^[url=https://sabre.io]https://sabre.io[/url]. and can that way serve files, calendars and adressbooks to clients.
The integrated cloud app of Hubzilla and streams connects to WebDAV clients.
Hubzilla provides also an app for managing CalDAV calendars and serves them to CalDAV clients. The HZ CardDAV app can manage address books and serves them to CardDAV clients. In Streams this two Apps are not active right now.
So basically [mark]you can try to connect all the different clients you finde in the lists above with your Hubzilla/streams account[/mark] and use the Hubzilla/streams server you are on as server for your clients you have installed on all your different end devices.
Can you see that is will give you a lot of options?
In the next posts of this series i will show you some.

#[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Hubzilla]Hubzilla[/zrl] has integrated the #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=WebDAV]WebDAV[/zrl], #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=CalDAV]CalDAV[/zrl] and #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=CardDAV]CardDAV[/zrl] protocols. (#[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=streams]streams[/zrl] just WebDAV)
This protocols extend the functionality of #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Hubzilla]Hubzilla[/zrl] and #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=streams]streams[/zrl] in some very useful ways. Unformulated this not very well know.
I will start here a series of posts where i will give some examples of this extended use.
If you follow this posts it will become clear to you that this functionalities are the door to a world of interactions no other Fediverse app does offer.
As a start here a quot from Wikipedia:
[quote]WebDAV began in 1996 when [mark]Jim Whitehead[/mark] worked with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to host two meetings to discuss the problem of distributed authoring on the World Wide Web with interested people. [mark]Tim Berners-Lee's original vision of the Web involved a medium for both reading and writing[/mark]. In fact, Berners-Lee's first web browser, called WorldWideWeb, could both view and edit web pages; [mark]but, as the Web grew, it became a read-only medium[/mark] for most users. [mark]Whitehead and other like-minded people wanted to transcend that limitation[/mark].[/quote] #^[url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV[/url]

So you know about #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Hubzilla]Hubzilla[/zrl] / #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=streams]streams[/zrl] and maybe even used this Fediverse Apps - but what about the #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=WebDAV]WebDAV[/zrl] #^[url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV[/url] functionality?

Yes it is all about POSSE
Looking at your nice sites you have it all ! but federation is missing. Membership, Contacts and Commends seam not to federate but seam to be looked up just to one server :-(

[quote]Definitely we are fatigued with the fact there’s no good solution for music discovery that everyone uses, so we do have to be kinda everywhere at once[/quote]
now this is a different thing to solve... if you have all on one place you sure could spread to other platforms from there... but make sure reactions go back to the main place...
e.g. if you have a Band Website with Social Media functionality you still could boost your posts to other fedi platforms but all the commends would go to your original post to your Band Website
this does not work on platform which are closes up and don´t let you get thinks out - yes - but the future are federated platforms which are open :-)

Here a question not just to @[url=https://mastodon.social/@RobertaFidora]Roberta Fidora[/url]:
Out of your view, would it be desirable to get the two sides
[url=https://mastodon.social/@RobertaFidora]https://mastodon.social/@RobertaFidora[/url]
[url=https://robertafidora.com/news]https://robertafidora.com/news[/url]
under one hut - under one CMS - under one domain
or
is it just fine to split things up as there are right now?
So Band Website and Social Media platform should be two different things or become one in the future?

This pages are a demo site by [url=https://allmendenetz.de]allmendenetz.de[/url] for demonstrating how [url=https://codeberg.org/simonrepp/faircamp]Faircamp[/url] - a static site generator for audio producers - and [zrl=https://hubzilla.org]Hubzilla[/zrl] - a #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=CMS]CMS[/zrl] for the Fediverse - can work together as one system to present music in a network like the [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse]Fediverse[/url].
By the decentralized #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Fediverse]Fediverse[/zrl] network millions of attendees have the option to get in contact with you, follow and commend your #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=music]music[/zrl] releases and read all your news without depending on a single network provider.
With #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Faircamp]Faircamp[/zrl] it is quid easy to generate beautiful looking webpages on your pc for presenting your audio files in the internet.
With #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Hubzilla]Hubzilla[/zrl] audio producer get the option to host this webpages easy on the web and in the Fediverse so that also a combination with your personal network news channel can be easy realized. Also they get the option to distributed files with the fine graded permissions system of Hubzilla. So not every thing has to be public and e.g. special downloads can be granted just to selected contacts and also connect to the Hubzilla #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=shop]shop[/zrl] app.
In an ideal case an audio producer would install such a system under an own domain but also the option to host several artists under one hub URL may be interesting for some.
So for this demo site we were looking for a special musician and so we found the lovey music pieces by [url=https://ehma.bandcamp.com]ehma[/url] which are all licensed under copyleft licenses.
Have a look, listen and enjoy.[/share][/quote]

#[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=RSS]RSS[/zrl] Feeds are great to follow #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Webpages]Webpages[/zrl]. You can also follow Fedi Channels/Accounts by RSS.
By #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Masto]Masto[/zrl] you just put an " .rss " an the end of the Channeladresse like
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/@Channel-Nickname.rss]http://serverdomain.tld/@Channel-Nickname.rss[/url]
By #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Friendica]Friendica[/zrl] it goes like this:
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname]http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname[/url]
the #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Hubzilla]Hubzilla[/zrl] CMS provides for every Channel many different kinds of RSS Feeds
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname]http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname[/url]
will give you ToplevelPosts + Commends + Likes
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f=&top=1]http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f=&top=1[/url]
will give you just ToplevelPosts
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f&cat=]http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f&cat=[/url]
will give you just ToplevelPosts from a specific category depending of what you put at the end of ?f&cat= - like for the category "Fediverse" :
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f&cat=Fediverse]http://serverdomain.tld/feed/Channel-Nickname?f&cat=Fediverse[/url]
EDIT:
By #[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=Diaspora]Diaspora[/zrl] you will find the RSS Feed for a channel like this:
[url=http://serverdomain.tld/public/Channel-Nickname.atom]http://serverdomain.tld/public/Channel-Nickname.atom[/url]
this may be an way to follower diaspora channels from masto - if you can import rss feeds with an extra tool..
[hr]
Friendica and Hubzilla have a builtin support for following also RSS Feeds !

Hubzilla WIKIS and Bootstrap
Hubzilla is a web publishing CMS with many different interacting tools with which we can publish all different kind of content for the Internet.
It is not trivial to get the overview and even someone who has been using Hubzilla for years keeps discovering new options.
The latest thing I have understood is that the Hubzilla WIKIS can also display Bootstrap HTML code #^[url=https://getbootstrap.com/]https://getbootstrap.com/[/url] nicely. This makes it possible to create attractively designed webpages with even animated effects.
For a demo copy the following code into a HZ Wiki page:
[zrl=https://im.allmendenetz.de/cloud/chris/2024-09/bootstrap-style.txt]https://im.allmendenetz.de/cloud/chris/2024-09/bootstrap-style.txt[/zrl]
and marvel at the functioning dropdown navigation menu.
The HZ Wiki app does not have a good editor. The code for the pages themselves is therefore easier to create in an external WYSIWYG editor - there are several of these, including some that work with Boostrap 5.
In addition to some commercial online platforms or apps such as “Bootstrap Studio”, I found this online editor called "ProductDiv":
[url=https://github.com/awestbro/productdiv]https://github.com/awestbro/productdiv[/url]
With ProductDiv you can compile and edit all BS components that you can also find here: #^[url=https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.3/getting-started/introduction/]https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.3/getting-started/introduction/[/url] and edit them.
The finished code is then copied into an HZ Wiki page. Smaller adjustments and text changes can easily be made in the editing module of the HZ Wiki.
Try it out, it's really easy.
[b]However, one important function is missing from HZ Wikis: a cross-page search function.[/b] My fervent wish for the HZ DEVs would be to implement this. That would be great, then you could do something similar with HZ Wikis, which today often requires mdbock or readthedocs as an external application.
