Someone has to explain to me slowly why, if satellites are a 70-year old technology, companies have only decided to heavily invest on them (e.g. Starlink, Amazon LEO...) in the last decade. Is there a scientific, regulatory, economic or political development that has made this easier, cheaper or profitable now?

Israel’s defence minister said on Thursday that Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “can no longer be allowed to exist” after Soroka hospital in southern Israel was hit during an Iranian missile attack.
The hypocrisy and cynicism of Katz, who is directly responsible for the destruction of all but one of the hospitals in Gaza, is unbearable.

Reuters reports that Israeli fire killed at least 45 Palestinians as they awaited aid trucks in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip and dozens of others were wounded as a result, the territory’s health ministry said in a statement.
The event comes after five Palestinian civilians were killed, along with several others wounded, after Israeli forces opened fire on people waiting for aid in north-west Gaza City on Monday evening.

The doctor described the situation as a “mass casualty” incident that occurred approximately two hours ago, when “tanks attacked the people who were waiting for food and humanitarian aid”.
He said that over 300 casualties had arrived at Nasser hospital following the event, including 50 deaths.
"Most of the cases are in serious conditions due to the tanks’ missiles and now the situation at Nasser medical complex is out of control."

@nprofile…sqcg I understand and share the frustration (my MP is also a pen pusher) but I'd suggest, if I may, to consider engaging with the local momentum group (or regional one if there isn't a local one) to channel that energy and money in a way that doesn't risk doing Reform's campaign for them (I'm assuming you're not the one tory in Mastodon). @nprofile…sqcg I feel the UK has reached the point in parliamentary democracy where real change happens at candidate selection rather than the polls. And for this reason they make it really hard to deselect sitting MPs. Essentially, they're making it impossible to have a real choice.

@nprofile…fa4k I lived in Baltimore when there was a popular uprising in 2015 or 2016 and Obama sent the national guard at the request of the governor. It's unclear to me what the difference between that and applying this act is, seeing previous times it was applied in recent history. Is it that it's done against the will of the state?

I have the opinion that the real influence these ideas have is limited. The reactionaries don't need ideas to push their agenda forward, they have the strength that money and state or privately funded violence brings them. Think of nazis, arguably only one thinker had real deep insight (Carl Schmidt). I work at the University where Land got his PhD. Not once have I heard his name mentioned and I have heard the names of others who are disliked even in the right (Bercow or Patel)
