So... what is a "push notification"?
I heard this term in mainstream media, so I'm interested in a non-technical definition.
https://www.ibm.com/think/topics/push-notifications
IBM says that it's a popup from the OS, but it tracks them only to 2008, whereas "Activate your Windows XP" popup existed back in 2002, so IBM's definition contradicts facts.
(IIRC There were already IM messages in popups, "your download completed", etc.)
What does it actually mean? Is it different from "notification" or is it only marketing?

hey @npub1j7t…kn6q mods, there are a bunch of accounts here that spam posts with some automatic tool without ever replying if you try to discuss the topic. It floods the local timeline and feels like they are advertising rather than building a community.
Are those something you want to know about?
