Mark Twain: 'Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.'
Right now it just doesn’t deserve it.

I think it’s an apt description. The cars didn’t make life better for those children. Objectively speaking, all of those children’s lives were probably made worse because of them. The cars made it easier for the very rich to quickly bypass the very poor without having to justify why they deserved it. A.I. lets the rich not feel guilty for bypassing workers in the same way.

I’ve learned that when they say “there’s no money for it” what they meant was “there’s no way to make money from it”.

I might be misunderstanding this but isn’t that obstruction of justice? Unless he was standing up on his principles and said this during his resignation speech he should be arrested, tried, and if found guilty fired and imprisoned.

astute observer, they all had a place at one time. They didn’t fit, making them stay in another place they don’t fit won’t turn out different. Rehabbing an apartment downtown is great since they are next to all the services and all together, for the people servicing them. It’s not if they want to get away from people. Find out what they want and why they didn’t fit in the last place. Then start a plan going forward with only that information.

I’d say we went off when we started regularly drinking something so bitter we needed to add milk and sugar to it just to get it down.

the only thing that is going to save us is to stop using so much energy. When we found out we could get stored energy from wood we stripped the planet damn near bare. When we found out fat could be burned we hunted and killed all the whales because they had the most. We found coal so we stripped off the soil and dig up as much as we could to burn, same with oil. We will use more than the sun can produce, and sooner than you’d think.

unless I’m mistaken, there are no military applications for 60% either. It’s hypocritical for any country with nukes to say others can’t have them anyway. We aren’t getting rid of ours for the same reason they want them. If they are wrong for wanting them we are wrong for keeping them.

no it isn’t, it’s waved away. It admit it could be useless and then says even if it is useless that’s ok because so are many other things we like. I can trust my shower, I can’t trust what they are giving us. If my shower changed to hydrochloric acid once I’d drop and never look back.

most planets never spark life. Their entire existence is only tectonics, magma, and storms. They are all fine, ours will be too. We can’t harm the planet, just its ability to keep us alive.

MLK preached about a peaceful protest. Years and years he proclaimed it, all the whole while being suppressed. The truth is it never would have worked, he could still be alive but he wouldn’t have ever made a peaceful change. The only reason it worked is because of his violent end, that violence is what finally worked. The question now is have we had enough violence for them to change or will more be needed to rein in greed?

how long can you keep doing good things that lose money? It doesn’t matter what you do, if you can’t turn a profit off it then you can’t do it for long.

it’s not that most people don’t take it seriously because it’s science fiction, most people don’t take it seriously because it doesn’t effect us. “Most people” don’t ever launch anything into space, many never get to see true dark skies, most don’t have the time to watch the skies even if they could just look up. This is a 1% caused problem that can only be solved by the 1%
