What categories of thing come to mind when I say "non-traditional research outputs"? I'm trying to summarise the richness of the modern scholarly record for some colleagues, who definitely get the idea of research data and are coming around to research software as parts of the scholarly record.
So far I have:
- Research data
- Research software/code
- Preregistrations
- Practice research outputs (performances, artefacts, etc.)
- Physical samples/artefacts
- Grey literature
What am I missing?

Still a few days to apply for the post of Open Research Manager to work alongside the Research Data (me!) and Research/Academic Support Managers to shape research support in the University of Warwick Library & Archives! https://warwick-careers.tal.net/vx/lang-en-GB/mobile-0/appcentre-1/brand-4/user-11595/xf-287774c8e052/candidate/so/pm/1/pl/3/opp/4093-Open-Research-Manager-70020-0426/en-GB
It's a good team to work in, and you'll join a very supportive and collaborative senior management team in the Library. I've been there two months and haven't run away screaming yet!

It would be highly unusual for a (public or charitable) funder policy to explicitly *restrict* data sharing; where they exist these generally encourage or mandate sharing, within legal and ethical constraints.
This looks to be NIHR-funded research. Their policy (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/about-us/who-we-are/policies-and-guidelines/sharing-of-research-data) only requires a data availability statement, which this is technically compliant with. "Available on request" isn't something I'd consider good practice these days though.

Meanwhile gallons of water pouring across the road the other day from yet another burst water main, because *someone* has spent the last few decades prioritising extraction of unearned rent by shareholders over little things like routine maintenance

there may be an element of that. I keep having to read both the qbittorrent and libtorrent docs just to figure out what some of the options do, especially where they're reused elsewhere 😂
Eg. libtorrent has some bencode size limits that have reasonable defaults for torrent files, but it also uses bencode for resume data. Resume data for hybrid/v2 torrents gets really big (merkle trees), so unless you change the "torrent size" parameters you get problems resuming

OK, so I would love to write a new bittorrent client to support the science & culture preservation work of @npub1ua3…6srt and https://sciop.net.
We're running into some edge cases where the assumptions of the mainstream bittorrent clients don't hold, partly just the sheer size of some of the datasets we're archiving, partly the structure of them (many smaller files vs one large incompressible movie).

Does anyone know if there's there a readily available adapter to fit about 12U of 19" rack into a wider unit of furniture?
Specifically, an Ikea BESTÅ unit, which is 355mm deep internally so I guess I'll be limited by that in what I could fit in it.

Do I know anyone with the interest, capacity and hardware to receive (via mail) ~20TB of videos by trans creators on LTO-6 tape and upload them to archival storage? They are believed to be at imminent risk of censorship/takedown.
They are currently within mainland USA so ideal would be mailing them to someone also in the states who could then upload them to non-US archival storage.

Hey #GLAMR & #DigitalHumanities folks! I'm looking for real-world examples of data transformations that you've done (or attempted) in #OpenRefine that:
- Involved extremely hairy GREL expressions that were hard to figure out; or
- That you just couldn't work out how to do
I'm writing a self-study course on using #Python in OpenRefine and I have a good idea of what I want to cover but would like lots of practical examples to make it real for people.

Also, where does Ken O'Toole get any kind of authority at all to have a voice on education policy?

"Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary, has promised to crack down on what she called the “absence epidemic” by fining parents"
Plenty of evidence now that middle-class families will just treat this as a charge to be allowed to take kids out of school, and will thus do it more because now it's a service they're paying fairly for rather than something causing them guilt.
And fining poor parents is reinforcing poverty and just plain cruel.

our microwave has a dial but because this is the 21st century it's a rotary encoder not a physical clockwork timer dial. that's great for accurate timing, but also it's a very cheap rotary encoder and has become very temperamental after only a few years regular use.
I have relatives who would love something like this that was actually reliable because modern microwave controls are hell for rheumatoid arthritis, but the manufacturer seems to have given up on it rather than fix it

Writers who like to do first drafts by hand: what's your preferred process for getting text from paper to digital with minimal manual intervention?
When I write on my reMarkable that has pretty good handwriting recognition, but I prefer pen and ink. So far I've been scanning and uploading to Transkribus, and either transcribing manually or feeding it through a recognition model and then correcting. The error rate is pretty high even with a model trained on my own writing.

Funny how "8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours for what we will" ended up with "what we will" being defined as "travelling, housework, childcare and other unpaid labour"
