Everyone is now seeing the updated satellite imagery from Google Maps of Gaza. If you are shocked by the images, then shame on you. Did you think people were lying? Did you think the tents were propaganda? Did you think the images of children with limbs blown off as fake?
You should not be shocked by the image of Gaza being in ruin. This is Gaza today.

‘I didn’t go looking for trouble’: Protester sues NSW after allegedly being punched by police at Herzog rally
Shadid had requested officers to stop advancing as people were on the ground praying.
"Const Daniel Stewart then allegedly dragged Shadid, who had travelled from Parramatta, to the ground and punched him in the face and twisted his wrist. Another officer kneeled on his head"

Note, I am going to Melbourne in a few weeks. We usually book the VLine from Canberra, mainly cause it is cheap, but the coach is empty going to Wodonga, and Victoria has nice new trains. I couldn't book this time around though because of the free fare thing, and there has been reports of overcrowding. There was a risk we might not be able to board and stand all the way to Melbourne. We booked NSW TrainLink instead at over $300 return for two seats, and an extra hour journey.

There has been this push in Australia due to the fuel crisis to put in free public transport. I have to say that states doing this have it all wrong. Instead of making it free for everyone, target benefits for those who need it, and improve your networks. Someone living in a poorly connected area are just going to have free shit public transport, instead of public transport that could make their lives easier.

I mean, same as the ACT, but our officers are on loan basically from the AFP under the branding of ACT Policing.
And I strongly say the ACT isn't fantastic either. We had a recent incident of racial profiling on a bus during a major operation in Canberra's south (Woden). As you can imagine, our local indigenous community were not happy about it. There was a big gathering regarding it outside the legislative assembly over it.
I would note change in government wasn't helpful for NT.

honesty, and I know there is a whole debate about police investigating police, but the NT should really always get another state to investigate their deaths in custody and allegations of mistreatment. I don't think it can be disputed that the NT Police are way past showing they can't be trusted. It would have to be one of the least trusted and respected police organisations in Australia. And it is not like there is another good state, but none of them are as bad as the NT.

While it is a CTA specifically for the Canberra Liberals, what Mark says has some truth. It is probably clear, I have been to many protests, and it is not because I have nothing better to do. It is because I believed in the cause.
Sometimes it was SSM (obviosly very important to me), sometimes it was for indigenious Australians, somtimes it was for Gaza. But I went because of the cause.
I am time poor, and tbh, I would rather no attend protests. It takes up a lot of my time I would rather spend on other things.

2025-10-10 23:53:09 UTC

I would say the cartoonist is greatly misguided, if this is how he truely views protestors, and I would invite him to actually attend a protest.

2025-10-10 23:50:13 UTC

- reply

I also take issue with how this cartoon discounts protestors as nothing more than someone who needs something to do.
The people who turn up to protests, such as those depicted in the cartoon via the posters, are doing so for the cause. Palestine is heavily represented in the cartoon, and I think protestors are turning up because of the people being killed by the IDF, and the destruction of Gaza. Not because they had nothing better to do.

2025-10-10 23:46:42 UTC

- reply

Personally, this comes across to me as the cartoonist feeling superior, and viewing protestors as less than, dirty, stupid and so on.
I personally find this cartoon quite controversial. I would have concern that this is the kind of cartoon that subscribers are finding in their copy of The Australian.
If gives the impression that this is what protestors are really like.
I know they are not, and I know even Australian journalist have attended protests.

2025-10-10 23:43:20 UTC

- reply

For me, it seems like the cartoonist views protestors as less than. That protestors are living in difty conditions, and that the only focus in life is being a protestor, and that they are living poor life styles. Reflected by the dirt/grime reflefcted in the room, quality of furniture, the bong with the beer bottle sitting on what appears to be a milk crate.
The cartoonist gives the impression, that protestors are "dirty poor people".

2025-10-10 23:40:08 UTC

I wanted to share this cartoon by a Newscorp cartoonist. Not because I agree with what it is portraying, but because I think it is a real example of how some people view protestors in Australia (and obviously how this cartoonist views them).
There are a couple of things that really stand out to me. I am interested to hear what others think of it.
There are some clear boomer-esque themes, such as the coloured hair and nose ring, along with the old bong.

Samantha Maiden (newscorp) willing to give the member of Kennedy a free pass on his behaviour of threatening journalist during a press conference because his mother died is honestly shocking.
Again, there is no excuse for threatening journalist, and it is highly damaging for democracy. The panel on Insiders this morning should know this. Their role is really important, and at no stage should they be receiving threats when they are doing their job.

man, such a horrible story. I hope his family can heal, and she can get better. It is crazy she is still on it, and probably speaks to what a broken individual she is.

Hmmmm, when the ABC reports that the protests in Canberra are "significantly smaller" than the protests in Brisbane and other cities, it only further builds further distrust in the ABC.
It is worth noting that the protest in Canberra has been growing in numbers. This should be the focus of the reporting. It being smaller than other cities is not important.

The cop yelling at me today while I was taking photos.
She wasn't happy that I was standing on the guard rail and leaning against the bridge railing to take photos from up higher.

Israel decided they are going to take Gaza City.
It is one of the last safe places for civilians at the moment.

Penny Wong struggling on the point of if Israel is committing war crimes. Says "it is impossible to justify withholding aid from civilians", but couldn't say that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war.

they seemed to just want to complain about it. I'm confused why they were trying to turn a crowd that size around. No wonder why there was confusion.

Just seen a BBC report on ABC News regarding the situation in Gaza. It features a "vantage point" in Israel which looks out to the war. It seemed to me going from the reporting, that it is being used for entertainment. They installed vending machines, and the BBC captured in their footage Israelis taking photos, smiling.
This is so fucking gross. I can't think of anything to smile about.

Trying not to cry tonight. I think the situation in Gaza is really getting to me. Those poor kids dying from lack of food and medicine. Those pictures are hard to see.
Tonight, I have written to Pocock, Gallagher and Payne pleading for action. I have also hopped onto Facebook asking friends to do the same.

I am starting to see that the dog leg is really pointless and doesn't appear to produce much benefit for LR Stage 2B
While the idea of LR going past old parliament seems nice, the stops are pointless. Like the placement for the Treasury stop is plain dumb.

agreed. A lot of the time I was hearing parents talk about safety as a reason. So, I guess every opportunity we get at increasing that sense of safety could be increasing the likelihood of kids walking to school.

2025-06-15 23:29:45 UTC

The fact is, we can improve the safety for our kids just by simply moving the limit by 10 on streets. Our kids deserve to feel safe around our schools, and they deserve the opportunity to walk to school.
Come on Canberra. Dropping from 40 to 30 is nothing in terms of travel time and it would be so easy for us to do. This is low hanging fruit.

I've discovered today on my journey to Richardson, that my #mywayplus card was overdrawn again when I was trying to tap off, which was failing. This is the second time this has happened to me now, where it has allowed me to tap on but not off due to a funds issue.
There is no way to tell this without checking online or via a ticket machine. Validators don't tell you that there are no or negative funds, or that your account is temporarily blocked.

Had a great chat with Laura and the team at Richardson Shops today about the possibilities for the area. So good to see such a turn out today. Also, great that the property owner come out to speak to locals about the issue.
Looking forward to seeing Laura bringing this issue up in the assembly in the next few weeks.
