Built-in toilets are a conspiracy from toilet makers, plumbers and others to prevent us from reparing our toilets ourselves and to be able to charge for the destruction and rebuilding of the whole partition. Fight me.

Currently traveling for the first time to the MPS Konferenz, an annual event in Hohenroda dedicated to the different Mucopolysaccharidoses metabolic disorders. @nprofile…z9yv Micro tip: I heard that posting a query on wg-gesucht could help. Some people I know got offered a very good flat by an agency this way, and they are not the only ones. BUT they were a couple, which might very much have influenced the agency in their favour.

I also don't understand how the layer font setup could allow me to make a variable font.

Type designer frens, I'm finally ready to make my first color font. Maybe it will be variable too. I'm working in glyphs. The ones here used to this workflow (@nprofile…ale9 , @nprofile…xzfg ) how do you start? With one master per color as in this tutorial https://glyphsapp.com/learn/creating-a-layered-color-font ? Or with one layer per color for each glyph?

I'm coming more an more regularly across websites whose design has clearly been 100% stolen (fonts included) from other (maybe successful) websites. Often for start-ups or things that look like vibe-coded projects.
I'm asking myself if the people behind them actually asked for a knock off of the first website or if it's just the ai tool that they've been using that freely just copied another website?
Am I the only one or have you observed the same phenomenon too?

I was gonna buy myself a new hair trimmer after my last one decided to not hold the charge anymore, most likely because of me leaving it uncharged and unused for too long. But in a spark of lucidity I decided to try and open the old trimmer. The battery is a standard AA, which I was able to replace by a new one from the supermarket. All of it without the use if any specific tool, no ordering if a specific battery online, no soldering, no nothing. Sometimes self-repair is way simpler than we think it is.

I've been thinking about this (shaming) saying recently : “you're not hungry, you're bored”. And I realized one of the tools I regularly use as a parent if 1 or 2 bored children (in a vehicle for instance) was to turn this saying over its head and feed the kids out of their boredom. “You're not bored, you're hungry”, I say.

I was reading again about how Musk was forced by a judge to commit to buying twitter after he tried to retract. Back then some of us rejoiced and felt this was a kind of a humiliation for Musk (or am I not remembering well?). But with today's insight, maybe the world would have been a better place if this wouldn't have happened?

Today's lukewarm take: (race) bike helmet designers must all have short hair considering how:
1) you practically can't wear a helmet if you have a bun or really anything else than a low-hanging ponytail
2) many helmets parts just tangle into longer hair every time you take the helmet of, sometimes requiring someone else's help to untangle them.
I can't even imagine how more complicated it must be with thicker and/or curlier hair. Yes this post is about sexism and racism.

Small wins: For the first time, I fixed myself (with the help of the partner) a puncture in the back wheel of my electric cargo bike yesterday evening.
If I always have been fixing my acoustic bikes myself, I was impressed and didn't dare to do much myself on the e-bike, afraid of it being finicky. Turned out that this particular task was very manageable and that the only challenge was properly realigning the disk with the disk brakes.

If you ever made one of these ancestry DNA tests for fun and wouldn't register as a stem cell donor, I highly judge you.
If you ever get selected as a donor (small chance), the process requires a couple of hospital appointments and either a puncture in a large bone, under narcose (25% of the cases in 2024), or a more benign and common (75%) capture of the peripheral blood stem cells through sorting out wandering stem cells in your blood. Comparable to giving blood.
Congrats, you saved a life!

In contrast, a donor could be found in a matter of a couple of weeks for my white daughter who also received a life-saving stem cell transplantation. And time is a matter of life or death in this kind of cases.
If we could find a donor for Yannis here it would be amazing, but what we can do is all register to be potential donors for any future person in need. Registering is very simple and only requires a simple DNA swap (a Q-tip you scrap in your mouth and send back by post).

A kid in a friend's daycare is currently suffering from leukaemia and needs a stem cell transplant to have a chance to survive. Yannis is from Afro-European descent and, as such, is struggling to find a donor as only 3% of the registered donors in the words are from multi-ethnic descent while 70% are white.

I realised it's been one year since I've started wearing my contraceptive ring. Now I'm fully used to it and almost feel weird when not wearing it. No new pregnancy so far (which isn't a surprise) so it's a 100% success. To one year more!

This weekend I got to know an acquaintance a bit more, and we had a really nice conversation about pizzerias, how to make your pizza dough and where to buy the best flour for pizza dough in Berlin and around.
After the weekend I sent him a message to ask where he bought his flour. I was confused about this flour-buying club, only working with co-opted peopled.
